Had a check-up this morning. Thought I was going to get my Strep B, but they said another week for that. I saw a different doc than usual and she was nice. I asked about repeat episiotomies and tears because I had both last time and I wondered what the plan was for this time. She said a repeat episiotomy is really rare and if I tear, it most likely wouldn't be as bad. She was surprised they had done an episiotomy before because 99% of the time they don't (which is also what I was told before and a big part of the reason I was asking about it in the first place) and she went on to say they only do episiotomies for 2 reasons: 1. If baby's heart rate is inconsistent and they want to speed things along to get the baby out 2. If it's going to be an "explosion" down there without one. DUDE. She said 'explosion' about 16 times and I was cringing! Can you please think of a better word to use when we are talking about my vagina?? Ugh!!!
Had my 33 week appointment this afternoon! Everything looks great! LO's HB was at 138, and I am measuring at exactly 33w. My BP was excellent at 110/62, and besides the not so great symptoms I'm having, everything looks great. I have one more appointment at the 2 week interval, and then I'll be going every week. They'll be doing the GBS test next week (ugh!) but they said they'd also give me my prescription for my breast pump, which is exciting

Started weekly NSTs (thanks GD) and baby girl passed within 20 minutes, woo! Also had a biophysical ultrasound done today...it was nice to see baby girl again:) AND I dropped off my FMLA paperwork....um, what?! How is it that time already?!?

Disappointing appt today
Bp and glucose were good. I have swelling and gained 4lbs in the last 2 weeks.
Baby is measuring ahead in everything...and breech. Doc doesn't want me to go to 40weeks due to his size (he was 5+lbs today) but said it's my choice if I want to be induced.
I've called a chiro for a consultation and am looking at spinning babies.
I get another ultrasound at 35 weeks to check babies position.

1) Your appointment sounds really similar to my best friend's sister. Everything looked great, but she had major swelling and gained 4lbs in a week. So far though she's made it to 37 weeks so far! And after that appointment she didn't gain weight and the swelling decreased a little.
2) Would you still be having a vaginal birth with a breech baby? I'm curious because of their desire to induce as opposed to scheduling a c-section. (I hope neither is necessary!)
She said I was measuring kinda big, but baby was measuring good at my last u/s 2 weeks ago, so not necessarily an issue. (I wanted to tell her it was because my body composition is 99% backed-up SHIT at this point, but I refrained, bc I don't know her.)
Seriously - I always make sure to take a poop before I head into the doctor. I do not need that extra weight! ;-)
I couldn't go before this last appointment for a few days. I know that is why I was so much heavier than normal on the weight gain, because I've watched my diet more and I'm drinking only water. Thankfully I'm still not that much heavier than pre pregnancy. My fat butt doesn't need extra!
I'm sending good vibes (and creepy internet hugs) to everyone who had craptacular appointments this week.
I had my second of three appointments for the week yesterday evening. BP came down a little and I actually lost a pound, which I will attribute to doing jack shit and guzzling water like there's no tomorrow. However, swelling is still really bad and the midwives stare me down at each appointment to be sure my face hasn't swelled up, too. Still on the weekly NSTs, next one will be tomorrow. Next week is slightly quieter with just my NST and a quick check in, but then week 36 begins the weekly visits/cervix checks + NSTs, and the GBS test (bleh).
Here's hoping we all get at least some good news in the next week or two!!
So sorry to all the ladies who had crappy appointments. I hope things start looking up soon.
I had my 35 week check yesterday. Everything was looking good - baby is head down, I'm measuring right at 35w, BP was good, weight was on track, and HR was just a little higher than usual at 160. I thought they'd do GBS - and was NOT looking forward to it - but they said that's next week. They'll also start offering to check my cervix next week, which I haven't decided if I want to do.
Sorry to everyone else who also had a shitty appointment this week, but misery loves company. Thanks for making me feel better about being fat and possibly having a fat baby. Maybe now I can do something besides beat up/torture myself til next week's ultrasound.
They'll also start offering to check my cervix next week, which I haven't decided if I want to do.
Curious why would someone not want a cervical check? My doctor said yesterday that she offers them starting at 36 weeks (next week!) for those that want it - I am just curious if there are pros/con's to this since I never considered it before.

I'm pro-cervical check for myself, but some people don't want them because: 1 - they really don't mean anything. You can be at 0 dilation and have your water break the next day and go into labor. Or you can be walking around at 4cm for 6 weeks. Sometimes when that happens (dilated/effaced) the MTB starts thinking "any minute now! Baby's coming!" and since it doesn't really mean that it's a long time to be on your toes!
2- I never had an issue with them, but they can be uncomfortable. (Maybe depending on doctor's hand size?)
3- Introducing anything into the area can increase the risk of infection.
I did them with DD because I was high risk and my doctor prefered doing Cervical checks. However she was VERY clear that my dialating and effacing didn't mean labor was any day. It just meant my body was preparing and things were progressing normally. Not to get excited. UNTIL the day I went into labor. She started the check with a "Oh boy, she is LOW! I bet you are uncomfortable. No way you make it to next week. I will be shocked to not to see you within 24 hours" She was right. She told me I better not have the baby over the weekend because she was going to be out of town and didn't want to miss it I miss her so much!
This pregnancy I'll probably just do whatever the doctor wants. I think for me them checking was peace of mind things are okay rather than being concerned when labor will start so much.

Went for my MFM appointment and growth ultrasound today. Everything looks good and we are no longer breech! Doctor said he estimates her weight at 5 lbs 2 oz which would put her in the 58th percentile for 33 weeks.. sounds big to me but I guess is right on track. We got to talking about how the last MFM specialist I saw recommended me for induction at 37 weeks, and how I had discussed with my OB wanting to perhaps put that off as long as I can possibly tolerate. It is not a safety concern at this point and more of a comfort concern for me, so he said we can play it by ear as the time approaches. He's also sending me for an anesthesiology consult so I can have a game plan in place because I have a lot of "what if" and "just in case" scenarios I won't bore yall with the details of.
OH! So the tech is doing the ultrasound, pretty standard growth ultrasound except for the first time my baby girl is actually staying still enough to get some good still frame pictures. We got some really good views of the heart chambers and all the important parts, I started to feel sick and really bad migraine wise so I asked if I could roll on my side and close my eyes while she finished. Well, when I opened my eyes back up, she has flipped the machine to 3D and there on the screen was a 3D image of my baby girls face staring right at me!!!! I was so shocked I just started to cry and say "Oh NO! She it TOO Beautiful!!!" It was really really shocking and unexpected and crazy and cool!
Woke up this morning with vaginal bleeding and LO wasn't moving around. Normally in the morning baby girl goes crazy. I was also having peroid like cramps so I was freaking out. Was trying to wait until my appointment at 5pm, but was freaking out too much. Called and was sent to L&D. LO started moving after abor an hour and a half but they still wanted to check everything out. The NST was good. They ended up sending me to my dr appointment to have my examination since the on call dr was not at the hospitial. My dr made me feel like crap. He straight up told me I was stupid because babies don't move all the time and I can't tell anything after an hour of no movement. I understand that she isnt going to move all the time but I know how she moves in the mornings and she has not gone and hour and a half with NO movement! Plus I was mostly calling about the bleeding. During my exam he started yelling at me that I'm completely closed and there was not a drop of blood in my cervix. Well dr asshole let me show you my fucking bloody underwear! My SO was shocked at how rude the dr was to me and really wants me to consider changing dr offices because of this. Personally I feel it's too late in the game and I've already had to switch once for a move, and there are 5 other drs in the practice so hopefully I won't have to see him again!
On the plus side, baby girl is doing great and is now moving around like normal! Pretty sure she is throwing a dance party!

Wow pghtruelove, so sorry for your scare and then for your additionally having to deal with an insensitive doctor! That really sucks and should not be! I don't think it is ever too late in the game to ask for what makes you feel the most comfortable and cared for, obviously it is a big decision up to you and SO, ultimately up to you. But just wow, I feel like if I were in your shoes I cannot imagine wanting to rely on having that person at my side again after that experience, but again that is so personal. Sending you good thoughts! Glad to hear little girl is back to dancing and keeping mama happy!
pghtruelove what a dick! I hate being made to feel stupid like I wasted someone's time. You were worried. You saw blood. I'm sorry so many doctors suck!

Geez @littlechivette, so sorry you're having such a hard time. Can you doc possibly write you a work restriction note so your employer has guidelines of accommodations you would need? I know this doesn't always work depending on job requirements and the size of the company and all sorts of other details, but sometimes a well written doctor's note can be enough to get you the accommodation you need from the company in order to technically keep working but doing things that aren't hurting you. Just a thought. FX for you!
@littlechivette try to keep your chin up although I know it's tough! This may be a dumb question but are you wearing compression stockings or anything? I hope you are able to find some relief before LO gets here!

Had my 36 week appointment this morning. Baby is head down, but hasn't dropped yet. I let her do a cervical check just to see what it's about so I can make better decisions about the next couple weeks. Ouch! And cervix is completely closed still. I imagine I'll decline checks for the next couple weeks unless I start to have intermittent contractions leading up to the appointment. She estimated that the baby is about 5 lbs and end up being a 7-7.5 lbs baby - I hope she's in the right ballpark, because we had an 88th percentile baby at 20 weeks! Got my GSB check too. Until next week!

36 week checkup today. Baby boy is measuring 37 weeks, and they estimate 6.5/7lbs. Holy shit, that's the size of some people's babies at 40 wks! He's head down still, which is great.
I had to do the GSB swab test. Which, if you haven't done it yet includes swabbing from your vagina to anus. Let me just say that wasn't too fun with hemorrhoids and I didn't really go "inside" so hopefully they get enough for a result! That sucked.
I still can't fricking believe I'll be early full term in 4 days!
I'm 35w3d, but my dr is away next week so we just decided I'd come in for my 36 week today and see her again in a couple weeks when she's back.
We start out with some small talk, asks how I'm doing, told her I started getting that familiar pelvis feels bruised feeling last night but doing ok, just feeling pregnant. She lays me down to feel baby and measure me, finds it head right away and goes 'oh my, how much pressure ARE you feeling?' Me: "oh, I don't know, it really just started last night so haven't thought about it too much' (I had awful pelvic pains from 24w-33w when I delivered DS) her 'well, it's dropped down low now'
And THEN continues with 'As you know, I'm away next week but I'm going to be home so if you need me or you go into labour, I'm should be there. But just in case, this is the info for the on call OB next week. In fact, I think you should book an appointment with her next week now' (we were just going to skip next weeks appointment). And when she was leaving the room I said 'well, I hope I get back to see you again!' And she said 'yah, well, we'll see'
So, who knows, I pretty much officially had the 'this is happening any time' speech today. I've been preparing for a May baby just based on my past history but it really just hit me now. Yikes!
Also, hugs and best wishes to you all having appointments leaving you feeling disappointed or unhappy!

pghtruelove, it's probably too late for this, but the Midwives at Mercy hospital (through the Midwife Center) do a great job. Also Mercy in general, even without the midwives, seems to be a great experience for everyone I know who goes there..
sordidvolition, turtletyme, sully326, and the rest of those with predicted "big" babies.. I'm in the same boat, but I'm at a practice where they'll let me birth him vaginally (even if they think he's like 10lbs) as long as there are no other health concerns. I'm curious how you all plan to handle it if you're pressured towards an induction or c-section based on size?
I agree with those who say doctor's size estimates are OFTEN wrong, and I also believe many/most women's bodies are equip to push out even a very big baby.

All went well. Baby's head is so low doctor was shocked and told me not to go into labor in the next week. Haha....but other than that everything is good!

It scares me because my other two were small I am sure I can do it. My mom had three almost 10 lbs babies all a year apart. Did she break a bunch of blood vessels in her face and eyes pushing me out, yes, but otherwise we both survived.
Appointment went well today. Baby's head is down, heartbeat is strong, and she said Baby is the perfect size. I almost passed out again during my ultrasound though! Got super hot and was having a hard time breathing so I told her we had to stop. She said it was a first and got me some water to drink in a pee cup! Lol I felt like crap afterwards so I came home to lay down instead of going to work. Blegh. Next appointment is in 3 weeks when they'll do a membrane sweep.
