I'm calling out Dylan and Paige!

Ooh, D is at preschool this morning so I have time to post! I'll start with my little guy.

Dylan is my energetic, thoughtful, sweet, funny, and observant boy. He is fascinated by any type of machine or item that plugs into an outlet. He is always trying to figure out how things work and notices and remembers these details. If he knows that you have a computer, he'll ask you what color it is and what color the cord is and how it turns on. He is very interested in knowing how vehicles turn on and how things are connected. He loves to dance and run around the house. He surprises me with kisses and hugs and always want to do what he's doing for "one more minute!" He loves to pretend to fix things, play with my old appliances, play in my H's jeep, eat bacon, the color red, his preschool teacher, pick his nose (working on that one!), and be a "helper guy."

Paige is my go-with-the-flow, smiley girl. She will be 5 months old this month! She loves to stick out her tongue and gives lots of smiles. She is thisclose to rolling and seems to be teething. She just started with the 30-40 minute naps, but generally sleeps very well. She loves baths, cuddles, and is a happy spitter.

With P, I'm surprised by how much she adores D already. Whenever I think he's annoying her by being all up in her business, she just gives a big smile.

With D, I'm surprised by his love of plugs. Honestly, I think he will be an electrical engineer or something like that. Wherever we go, he finds the plugs and things that plug in and asks about a million questions about how they work. I let him play with my old laptop from college last week and he spent the entire day turning it on and off, connecting the mouse, and carting it around in a piece of carryon luggage pretending to go to work. Who needs toys?

Adorable! I know that D had some adjustment trouble when P came but how is he doing now? Does it seem like he's pretty good now?

Yes! I think we're at the point where he doesn't remember life without her. Lol!

I love seeing the special bond between D and P develop. He will tell her "it's OK" when she cries and wants to lay with her on his bed (that's when he's not trying to wake her up when she's just fallen asleep!). Every now and then he asks me if he can give her a kiss. He likes to show her the things he's doing (do you think Paige wants to watch me turn on the Christmas lights?) and usually likes to greet her after a nap or in the mornings. He's just started wanting to help feed her sometimes and is interested in seeing if she pooped and talks about the things she'll get to do when she's bigger (like eat sausage!)..such a far cry from the first day we brought her home and he wanted us to take her back to the hospital!

My husband has a strange fascination with D because of his fascination with plugs. He is very concerned that he is going to get hurt! Just so you know. He asks about him all the time. I tell him to back off and that you've got it covered. And that he is going to be an engineer of some sort - (great minds!). I cannot get over how freaky identical they look. It is too funny. You need to post Dylans booty dancing. It is too funny. That boy's got some moves. Paige is a little sweetheart. Does she ever not smile?

I often think that Robin and Dylan would be great friends. Between Dylan's love of plugs and Robin's love of fans, they'd be unstoppable together.

They are both beyond adorable. The picture of Dylan in the diaper pail always makes me giggle. And the picture of the two of them kissing is so sweet! I still can't get over how much they look alike!

Thanks! I love staging those photos!

Dylan loves meat--steak, bacon, sausage, chicken. He could also eat his weight in watermelon. I have to limit him. We have some mint growing in our yard and apparently he likes to pop a few leaves in for a snack! He said they taste like the dentist!

I'll probably start P on solids closer to 6 months. I did let her lick a slice of watermelon today--she didn't know what to think!

Hahaha! Can D shadow your H at work one day? He would be in heaven. Does he remember having a fascination with that kind of thing when he was a kid?

I'll admit I judge myself over the plugs sometimes. You know how kids go through phases and then move on? Well D has never moved on from these plugs and turning stuff on and off! So we finally decided that instead of being plug Nazis, we'd supervise him with certain items. One day that meant decorating a floor lamp with Christmas lights. It's really neat to see him light up when he figures out how stuff works after its plugged in. I let him pretend with old stuff--like my old bread machine. He plugs it into a power strip that is NOT connected to any power source. So I don't let him have free reign on the plugs. He helps me plug stuff in like the vacuum, phone chargers, the food processor when I'm using it. That kind of thing.

Yes, she seems to smile a lot! But sometimes she gives the most adorable frown I can't help but smile.

They would be fast friends for sure! Imagine the trouble they'd get into...

I'm looking forward to family vacations. Some of my fondest memories from my childhood are our vacations and I can't wait to start planning some of my own. I'd love to take them to the Adirondack Mountains, Disney World, NYC, and a road trip out west.

Last year I had so much fun taking D to Busch Gardens (there's one about 10 minutes from our house). I hope I can handle taking 2 of them this summer!

We also have a little beach near our house. There are farmer's markets and concerts there often and I'm looking forward to spending lots of time down there.

Other than that, we have a slew of visitors lined up for the next few months. Should be fun!

One thing he surprised me with was his persistence in figuring out how to wrap up cords. He was getting so frustrated trying to wrap the vacuum cord back up, but after a few tries he became a cord wrapping pro.

It was also fun to see him figure out that some outlets are controlled by on/off switches on the wall and some just work automatically.

As for Dylan, he reminds me a lot of my brother... he too was fascinated with outlets and how things worked. He wanted to be a mechanical engineer before he found out they basically sat at a computer all day, and that was too boring. So he was a helicopter mechanic in the marines and now he does collision repair on cars (well did, he manages the place now). He loves working with his hands though and always had to be fixing things!

Tip: If something breaks, put it in a box and keep it for D to tinker with later on! My bro would take things apart to see how they worked and it would drive my mom crazy! Our phone broke once (corded beauty... the ringer stopped working) and so after she bought a new phone of course, he says "If I can fix it, can I have it in my room?" she said sure... and 10 minutes later that damn phone was fixed, she was pissed, but also impressed!

That's funny about your brother fixing the phone. It's crazy how some people just know how to do that kind of stuff! I'm really interested to see what D ends up doing later in life. My H is the kind of engineer that mostly sits behind a computer all day writing code. Haha! But he's also very handy and loves learning how to do stuff on his own.

Good tip about saving the broken stuff to tinker with! I think that will be our next rainy day activity!
