We are planning on doing a blend of purees and BLW. My stepmom gave me her old baby bullet blender that she used with my little brother a few years ago. We also have our own garden to help cut down on the costs of baby food.
DS was up from 12:50 last night till sometime past 2:30am. I didn't really look at the clock before passing out once I could crawl back into bed. But he was so very happy to be awake. He was kicking and wiggling and cooing and all smiles. It's a good thing he's so cute.
It's storming again today and I love listening to the thunder as I work. It had been so very rainy lately, but after the dry winter it is nice. I just how we don't start having the landslides that this much water can bring.

What I like: I didn't have to buy or make purees - although I did make some for daycare. No need to feed LO a different meal than what you're eating. You may just have to prep the food a bit differently, and obviously cut things up. It gives them great practice at feeding themselves from the beginning. They usually love the independence. I like that they get the difference textures of food from the beginning. It helps get them to completely solid table food faster. I don't have to feed my kid pureed meat. Because gross.
At first, I start with soft cooked veggies. Then go to fruits. Then pastas and meats. I wait on items that are more likely to cause an allergic reaction, like strawberries or nut based foods. I wait on more acidic items as well - like oranges.
The only thing I plan to do differently is to introduce more of a variety of items.
I tend to follow the "food before one is just for fun" motto. If there's not a ton of intake, it's not really a big deal because they're still getting what they need from breastmilk or formula.
Our plan is to do mostly BLW at home and then make our own purees for daycare. We'd like to stay away from most processed food if possible to give her the best possible chance at maybe avoiding obesity at a later age. We both have terrible genetics!

So far LO has been ok with BM and me not having to cut anything out of my diet but does that make her higher risk for other allergies? All stuff we need to talk to the dr about I know, but we don't see her again for 3 more weeks and it's just stuff I'm curious about now. I know I have plenty of time before I really need to worry. Now I'm just rambling!

I need to get better at swaddling with a blanket. We switched to Velcro swaddles at 2 weeks, but I like the light muslin blanket for swaddling for these daytime naps since DS is wearing clothes. But nap swaddling is helping, so thanks ladies for telling me it's okay to start late.

No one in my family really has food allergies to tend with. I'm not really sure if allergies can be inherited? I would probably be more careful with introducing foods you know people in your family are sensitive to. Lactose wouldn't be really introduced in larger amounts until after one anyway (whole milk, cheese etc).

This is why I think anyone truly interested needs to talk to your Dr and do adequate research on what foods start with from a nutritional standpoint and how to e sure they are getting appropriate amounts.

My pedi recommends a multivitamin with iron starting at 6mo so you don't have to stress about solids intake. Solids & nutrition definitely a conversation to have (probably a few times!) with your pedi.

I've read conflicting research about babies & food allergies & whether or not food allergies are hereditary. Definitely chat with your pedi about it. Maybe do some reading beforehand if you want to go into the conversation better prepared?

Our pedi recommends a multivitamin once baby is 6 months. So while there are foods that get baby the vitamins and iron, there's not a big need to push them because they get the multivitamin + breast milk or formula.
So I, personally, go with before one for fun because they're basically just practicing.
But yeah, I'm not a doctor, so do what you want and ask your doc. Edit: some babies just don't like solids or purees at first, that's why the multivitamin is important.

That's why I thought they needed the cereal.

I just now pumped the exact same amount as I did this morning. The lines match up perfectly! I've heard that it'll decrease during the day, which I experienced yesterday.
I'm already tired of the massaging. I use the Simply Basic hands free bra (I think that's what it's called), and it's hard to get your hands in there.

DH took some great photos of my c-section, and while I love them and will show them to family (I warn them first and ask) and DD when she's older, I'd never just post them on Facebook. No one wants to be surprised with bloody surgery photos.

I actually ended up having a birth photographer, and I loooove all the photos she took. I had a vaginal birth and she was by my side or head, so I don't have too many "oh god!" shots, but I still didn't put them on fbook. Yes for friends and family who want to see them. No for showing up in the fbook feed!

I feel like I haven't been able to really be on here since going back to work yesterday. I miss you all!
It has been nice to be back with my colleagues. I work with some truly amazing people. So many of them have come by just to give me a hug and make sure I am doing okay. My principal was walking by my room today and saw me in there and came in to give me a hug and welcome me back. The students have been great for the most part. One group of boys in my junior honors class that goofed off today and didn't do the assignment I asked. When they had to share their analysis of the chapter of the book, they thought they could be funny and give me silly answers and I would laugh it off. Nope! I shamed them and was extremely stern with my condemnation of their behavior. They left with their heads hanging. Oh the joys of the end of the school year. I really can't be too angry with them because they did get to goof off for 12 weeks, and coming back with only 7 days before exams doesn't really make them think they have to work too hard.
DH is being sweet and taking DD to get gas in my car so I can have a break since I was supposed to go to a book club meeting. Except honestly it's her bed time and I would just as soon put her to bed right now. Oh well.
Thanks for the well wishes, ladies! cougarette - sorry drop off was so awful...that is what I'm most dreading about day care! Kudos to moms back at work and moms with crappy sleep- I don't know how you do it!

I checked my work email briefly (so! many! emails!) and saw that I was sent my offer letter for the new position I'm transitioning to. I had a feeling there'd be a salary increase, but I didn't realize it'd basically be the annual cost of daycare! Wooo!
So here's a question:
They included some tasks from my old job that I would cover until they hire someone new (they hired my old position but then another support person left). One of the tasks includes a weekly open support session where clients can come on and screen share with us. It'll go over one of the times I'm planning to pump. I'm planning on pumping at 9, 12, and 3. The session is from 2-4:30. It's usually slow, so I could probably take my laptop into the room to pump real quick. I mean, they likely won't know what the background noise is. Assuming someone is on the line at the time. Or do you think it'd be okay to maybe do a small session at 1:30 and then another small one at 4:30? Hopefully it'll be very temporary.
The sessions happen on Tuesday, so luckily I don't have to worry about it for a week.
