I'm currently breastfeeding my newborn daughter and I have to say that between feedings, diapers, and nap times I'm seriously lacking on the eating department. Any ideas for quick lunch/snack ideas I can eat with one hand?
I figured I would ask you ladies as I'm a FTM and struggling taking care of myself while taking care of her. She is priority but I need to eat
Hang in there, you will learn to hold baby in one hand and do a million things with your other one!
In those early days, I would have DH make something I could eat with a fork and chow down. If he want around, I just sort of made it work. I could have baby latched on and make a sandwich or open a granola bar.
ETA : I also had the appetite of a college frat boy when DS was that little.
When LO was a newborn, one of my favorite things to eat was banana bread. I had a few loaves I had cut into thick slices and froze in the freezer. I would take a slice out, pop it in the toaster oven and hold it with one hand while nursing. It's also something that's easy to ask for if you have in-laws or friends that want to bring food.
Like melody said, you'll get much better at doing things with one hand!
Ugh, the beginning can be tough!! Back then, I would have my H make me anything that could be easily eaten with one hand. I'm a grazer so I ate a ton of salty and sweet snacks. If I had to use a utensil to get the food to my mouth, forget it!! Sandwiches, fruit, cheese, etc... and tons of water! Hang in there!!
My go-to food was pita chips with sliced cheese, deli meat and cheese, drinkable yogurts, instant oatmeal, bananas, hard boiled eggs, and granola bars Hang in there!!! It gets better!
Apples Bananas Granola bars Trail mix (big thing from costco) Cheese (chop up ahead of time) Hummus & pita chips Crackers or pretzels dipped in peanut butter.
LO won't be so floppy and need so much attention soon. Have you considered baby wearing?

What I wished I had done last time was make a big batch of smoothies and freeze in an icecube tray and pull out a few cubes at a time to drink later on. I've done that to have something to have for breakfast at work and after a couple of hours they're usually thawed enough for me to start drinking.

All of this. I really like string cheese sticks for portability. You could try preportionung everything so it is ready to go.

Looking back.. I wish I had done this at the very beginning.. After breastfeeding, wear her with a baby bjorn or baby wrap. She'll probably just fall asleep and you will have some time to eat or do some stuff around the house. Hopefully lol every baby is different, but it's worth a shot!

Lara bars! Or Nutragrain bars (or any granola bars I suppose, but those were my go-to snacks). Also fruit, peanut butter crackers (I made my own and kept them stored in a bag), dry cereal.

I ate a lot of frozen dinners during the newborn phase. 3min in the microwave and you have lunch. I like Smart Ones, sometimes Lean Cuisine. Usually ate two as a meal because otherwise it's not enough food for a nursing mother.

I ate a lot of breakfast bars (whole oats are good for supply), microwavable breakfast sandwiches and fruit to round it out. More substantial than your typical snacks, but you need it! Easy to eat with one hand was a must.

I got these chicken teriyaki bowls that took 6 minutes, which didn't sound like long, but I always wandered away, fell asleep, got caught up nursing or changing diapers and then forgot about them. Frozen burritos only took 2 minutes so I usually remembered to eat them while they were still warm.

Cheese sticks, grapes, granola bars, fruit, oatmeal(flavored kind), popcorn, microwave mini tacos. Hard boiled eggs. I have dropped food on both my kids while eating lots of times, just watch hot food. With DS I would just go to the store and start throwing stuff in. Now with DD I am trying to make better choices, but bf burns so many calories I give in to a lot of snacks.
my go tos this time around at the beginning were string cheese, apples, and granola bars.
Like bantyrooster I find myself giving in to a lot of snacking even now that I'm back at work, so I try (but often fail) to have healthier snack food around.

I had several 3am bowls of microwaved oatmeal during the first week, when I'd be just finishing a MOTN feeding and realize I hadn't eaten much in the past 8 hours and was starving.
Also: granola bars, mixed nuts, baby carrots, apples, bananas, grapes, yogurt. Things you can more or less eat with one hand.
Yay! We have food! I bought hummus, pretzels, trail mix, almonds, cottage cheese, yogurt, string cheese, cliff bars, instant oatmeal, English muffins, deli sandwich items, hard boiled eggs. Groceries for 2 weeks at least - done!

I almost forgot. My husband got me a breakfast sandwich maker when I was pregnant and we've used it a ton since then. It was really helpful since you can eat a sandwich with one hand. And you can put pretty much anything you want in it!
