Our Target actually put up a sign at the carts. I honestly had never thought about it, but read about it on TB.
I was once in a facebook group for moms, for like 2.5 seconds. I knew it was time to leave when I asked "how would you approach a mother that is putting their carrier on the top of the shopping cart in a retail store?" And got answers like: -you don't fucking say a word -if you said one word to me about my parenting you would come back bruised -my carrier is MADE for the top of the shopping cart -a baby has never died from riding on the top of a shopping cart -how dare you judge someone else's parenting.
I went it in true flaming style and told them they were putting their children in danger and to READ THE FUCKING MANUAL.
I was so angry. I still don't approach mothers that I see doing this out of fear from those comments.
QTF:
There was an article recently going around facebook about how a mother had lost her son in a car accident, and she found out after the fact that she had his carseat installed improperly and wasn't taking his winter coat off, I think. She was like, why didn't anyone ever say anything to me? I shared the story with the message, that if I was ever doing something wrong that might endanger my child, I hope that somebody is brave enough to speak up to me. I will never be mad at somebody who has my child's best interest at heart. Sometimes people just don't know better, and if somebody isn't brave enough to speak up, that child could be hurt. Good for you quietdownfish for speaking up.

I never heard about the winter coat... I just researched this more myself. I even took parenting classes before DS and they never mentioned this.
Granted it's been 6 years since I took those classes, maybe they weren't stressing it then. I didn't usually keep his coat on in the car anyway for fear of him getting too hot. But I may have done it a couple times for short trips. Scary.
Thank God for watching over us and keeping my little guy safe.

As far as the video, I didn't cry but it is a good message. I would never "mom-shame" anyone. Especially for silly things like what kind of diaper you use? You know they are for bowel movements, right?
For the most part, we all do the best we can (not including abuse and neglect, which is inexcusable) and to cast judgement and assume your methods are "perfect" is pure narcissism.
I do think that is not a well enough known thing. I wish their were signs on carts saying not to do it. Or maybe a big sign near the carts.

I had no idea until this was on TB a few weeks ago. I did it with #1 all of the time. I told DH and he was like.. But it's totally made to fit there it goes perfect... Now we know.
I have a friend who post stuff about vaccines all of the time and how angry she gets when people try to tell her she's harming her child by not doing it.. At the same time, she is trying to cram down everyone's throats that it's not safe & will cause mental illness.. I say just be informed and make your own decisions. I agree, I would want someone to tell me if I was doing something unsafe, ie car seat in shopping cart, but I draw the line when people try to give you advice about everything!!! Yes you have a child, congrats. I also have one and know how to handle the gas, rash, teething etc. if I want advice I will ask. You do not know everything about pregnancy and parenting just bc you have one!
