This varies so much based on so many factors.
My experience: I started out normal/thin, gained 30 pounds in pregnancy, and lost all but 5 of those by 6 weeks pp. I was breastfeeding. For the first few weeks pp I wore my maternity elastic pants (first/second tri size). Then I switched to normal clothes one size up from my pre-pg size. That worked well because it gave me extra room in the boobs for BFing and extra room on my belly.
You aren't allowed to really exercise (like, abs workouts!) til 6 weeks pp so your belly won't be toned no matter how much you lose. Empire waist one size up would be my recommendation.
Hopefully she lets you pick any dress you want in a certain color. If so you can wait til after baby and buy off the rack at David's bridal or Nordstrom or something.
I was in a wedding 12w PP. Originally we were going to pick our own dresses, then she decided to pick it for us. Luckily it was poofy in the waist area. They had me order 2 sizes up, and when I got it tailored it was brought those 2 sizes back down, and alterations were like $75. It was nice to not stress about it being too tight though.
This is a dilemma! I like the idea of several dresses in different fits and/or buying large and tailoring as needed hard to predict the future...will help to know if there's a specific dress you need or how far in advance you need to order!
Man I wish I lost the weight like you all did. I was not as lucky. I didn't have the benefit of breast feeding either. Which may be part if it. I gained a lot of weight and was unable to lose but maybe 20lbs of it. It didn't help my main craving was cheesesteaks lol. But I am going to go with what PPs have said. Spanks are a girls best friend. Be prepared for huge boobs. I went from a 38b to 38dd. I kept the dd, God knows what I will go to this time. And pick a stomach forgiving dress.
I would get a material that won't leave a big watermark if it gets wet (aka satin). That's still a really leaky time plus breastfeeding was still rather wet for the first couple months for me
Thanks!! I thought that was so nice, and then read the comments and everyone calling her a jerk for not leaving the kid with a sitter or parent. SMH.
I may be able to get my parents or my ILs to come to one of these destinations with us to watch bebe. But that's only if they want to come; it's a stretch for us to spend the thousands of dollars to attend, we certainly can't afford to pay for their airfare and lodging too.
All these weddings this summer/fall are stressing me out!
Under no circumstances should you get a strapless dress. Lol
lol. I'm not big on strapless anyways, though my last bridesmaids dress was a strapless that converted to a dozen other styles, by Jenny Yoo (the Aiden I think) and it was amazing. And that strapless bra I bought to go with it was worth every penny. Chantelle I think was the brand, and it was a 36E or F, and everything stayed up and happy.
Will obviously not be taking that risk post partum and nursing, but strapless can be done with larger breasts!

She is leaning this way (pick any dress in one of her wedding colors); thank goodness. She is a particularly chill and lower maintenance human, so I'm sure she will not make this harder than it already is.

Nursing in a strapless dress is tough unless it's jersey material. I've done it (in a bridesmaid dress with a 6 month old) and had to unzip the dress a bit and flip the top down. It was pretty impossible to do this discreetly as you can imagine. Lol

I would definitely wait to see what she picks before you decide. If you have a David's bridal near you then you could easily go buy off the rack close to the wedding.
If not I would go get measured around 4 or 5 months pregnant, because that's likely closer to the size you would be then. It's just hard because everyone gains it and loses it differently.
