TheEleventhHour - Same thing happened to me when I mentioned cloth pads and menstrual cups to my female friends. I have yet to find a pad/tampon that has not given me a rash or infection. I have overly-sensitive skin so natural stuff just vibes better with me.

I'm a little. jealous. I seem to have a very small window where I can use tampons without getting nauseous. It's so annoying.

ETA: I'd use these in conjunction with tampons. That way if it leaks I don't ruin my nice thongs which happens all the time now.

This exactly. Also it's expensive to buy disposable products each month and there's a cultural opposition to sticking stuff up the vagina of a virgin in many cultures.

Seriously, everyone who hasn't tried a menstrual cup, try one. If you hate it, you hate it. But it's worth trying it. No leaking, smell, mess, TSS, nothing. I don't even wear period underwear anymore. It's life-changing.

If you're not ready to bite the bullet on paying for a permanent one, you can try out a box of Softcups. They carry them in CVS now. They're disposable, but you can use each one for 12 hours at a time and wash and reuse it at least once if you want.

So do you think if someone has issues with tampons that they would be able to tolerate this?

My period is so short that I bought a 18 pk of pads about 3 months ago and I still have several left.

I will pass on these, although I can definitely see why other people might appreciate them. And I think it is awesome what they are trying to do for those who cannot get access to tampons or other feminine hygiene products.

I'm really thinking of recommending these to my grandmother. She had a bleeding episode in Walmart right before she had a hysterectomy (cancer) and ever since she has been wearing a daily pad (she doesn't need to now) because she feels more comfortable. I think some thing like this will help and also help with her constant utis

I'm on the fence. I actually have softcup samples under my bathroom sink. I haven't been able to talk myself into trying them yet.

I used Softcups for two cycles. The second cycle, I had one in on my second heaviest day. In less than an hour, I was overflowing and soaking through a pantyliner. Word of caution, if you have a heavy flow, use Softcups with at least a regular sized back-up pad and check frequently.

White would be fine. I don't need the subtle reminder of a bloody tampon to understand that it absorbs like one.

Maybe you used it wrong? If I use one that's more absorbency than I need, it's uncomfortable. If I use the right size, I can't feel anything at all.

Pads make me feel unclean. I've had to wear them after giving birth & both MCs. I have no desire to sit in my own blood for hours. To each their own, but for me no thanks.

And they're uncomfortable and I feel like I'm sitting in my own blood.  Plus, I always feel like I can't wear some of my tighter pants while wearing a pad because panty lines and pad lines.

ghostmonkey, yeah, I recommended softcup to @wallieflowers for the first time too, although kawaiikitsune's experience with leakage during a heavy flow speaks to the fact that the disposables (like instead or softcup) are wider and flatter and more prone to leakage if you don't insert them properly, if you bear down (ie when peeing or exercising), or if you have a narrower vagina (since the angle you'll be inserting it will be very tipped). The reusable cups (divacup, mooncup, etc) are longer and narrower and therefore less likely to leak/more likely to suit a narrower vaginal cavity, @wallflwr926, but if you have a very mild flow, the stiffness/dryness of the material might irritate you more going in than the flexible plastic ring of the softcup, and the angle of the softcup shouldn't matter if you don't bleed enough to fill it up quickly anyway. I have never heard of nausea with tampon use, but the whole point of a menstrual cup is that it's non-absorbent and can't lead to TSS symptoms.

Yeah, the only time I feel it is if I use one when I have barely any flow or if I have a heavy flow and don't change it soon enough. Then it feels like it's gonna fall out. I do use thin pads as a back up because I almost always leak a little at some point.

These would have been a lifesaver for the year that I bled daily before I ballsed up and went to the OB to figure out what was wrong.

I eventually gave up on not ruining my underwear. I think I permanently destroyed 30 pairs that year.
