My DH has no clue on any of this either...And wouldn't even try to pick them out or cut them up. It's a fight to even get him to eat veggies/fruit. He also didn't know how to load a dishwasher (he never had one).
SO can mostly tell when fruits/veggies aren't good... yet he doesn't notice when there is mold on the bread. Potato bread apparently goes bad quickly and he made us grilled cheese one night... there was mold on them and he didn't even notice!
Apparently growing up if there was mold on something his mom just picked it off and they ate the rest.
I just vomited in my mouth a little.
My random is we went to a potluck dinner with a bunch of friends and their kids/babies last night. One couple who has a 2 year old and a 9 month old and they left the baby at home with a babysitter because according to the mom "he's teething and I don't want to be anywhere near him." She said this with a straight face. And it was a paid babysitter. Ruh?
I can't send DH to the store to buy produce because he can't judge ripeness of anything but bananas. Every time he cooks in the kitchen, he brings me fruit or veggies first to make sure they are okay to use, and even when he's cutting them, he's asking if something is supposed to look that way. It's so frustrating! He didn't even know how to peel an orange when I met him, and he had no idea what to think or the pith or the white part in the middle of the orange. Seriously, what was it like growing up in his house?
DH also has no kitchen/food common sense, as I call it. He can cook a few things well but does things like using a tiny pot to boil a bunch of noodles or not realizing you need to peel garlic.
My random: What the hell new coworker lady? Why are so you incompetent? You're supposed to have more experience than me but at this point I don't trust any of the data coming from you. If there's a bottle near a tissue culture hood and it says sterile on it, where do you think you should open it? And when I call you on, don't tell me it didn't say sterile, I wrote it! "I wasn't paying attention" is also not a good response. That's what you're paid for. You would have just put it back and contaminated all of my cells. Ugh! Pretty sure my interns could do your job better than you.
We are going crib/baby shopping tomorrow!!! I absolutely cannot wait. I'm hoping (as I've said about 5 times) that a trip to BRU will give DH a reality check. His best friend is coming with us, which I am somewhat bummed about because I'd prefer it to just be DH and I, but he offered to buy the baby his crib, so I'm very grateful for that.
Also, my Uncle's surprise 50th birthday party is tonight and my cousin, who owns a BBQ company, is catering it. He catered our wedding and his BBQ is amazing. He just won first at a huge BBQ competition in Denver for his ribs. Needless to say, I will be stuffing my face tonight.
nurserachel22 how are you feeling? And was Kevin Hart last night - how was it??
Hi shmee! Kevin hart was a freaking riot... So funny. His opening acts were also hilarious. For 60 dollars, I was impressed lol. Big starts tickets usually cost way more.
Today I am supposed to work at the hospital... Nervous because my stomach is still sore. It seems like in am more sore this am. this is my first pregnancy soooo I'm not sure if this is just what it feels like after you have contractions? That's what I'm thinking. It's just sore, but it freaks me out.
Previously I had this thing where I had severe pain in upper back radiating to my arm down to elbow.. Well now that shit is back also. It's so bad that I can't lay down...haven't slept much in past two nights. No more contractions so I am forever grateful about that! I'm just tired.. And not used to being such a damn wimp.

Another random:
So Quentin was going to have his first sleepover/pizza party at our place with two of his best buds from school. One of his buds couldn’t make it due to family issues, but the other, the mother of said child is not going to allow him now. She is afraid of dropping him off at a strangers house. I told her she can stay and look around at our home and get to know us a little (even eat pizza with us and the boys) and then if she is comfortable, can let him stay, but she is refusing. Also—Lydia is going to have a “princess tea and cake party” the following day, but it’s only 2 hours long (pretty much a playdate). The mother of one of those girls wants to be the helicopter parent, and literally sit right beside her daughter the entire time during their tea party play time. I mean—can’t girls have girl time? And—do you REALLY have to sit in the same room with them? Why not sit in the living room with me and let them be? I’m sorry…maybe I am a more lax parent, but I see nothing wrong with a child staying over someone’s home (especially after I look through the home and feel comfortable with the parents), and also would never sit right beside my child as they were on a playdate. Signed, The Non-Helicopter Parent

We found out yesterday that one of our dogs has to have dental surgery to extract up to 6 teeth and stitch his palette back to his jaw. Because of his severe underbite, his top teeth wore away all the soft tissue behind his bottom front teeth. Super relieved to get a good prognosis, but worried about his healing and recovery time. He's also become super clingy, and while it was cute at first, I want to poop without his head in my lap!
I have been frantically trying to get things we need for this baby while my hubby acts like we have all the time in the world. Went and bought a bunch of nursing necessities from amazon only to have my order canceled because my HSA denied it...I looked into what was eligible for use with my HSA and what was not and made sure I only bought stuff that was covered. Apparently they saw a charge from amazon and rather than look at what it is they just denied it. Damn I would rather buy the stuff on amazon and pay less than what it would cost in the store. Ugh, I have also heard people say they have trouble using their HSA card at Babies r us too and thats the next place I would go for the supplies since they price match amazon. I am one of the most frugal people in the damn world and at times I hate having to be that way because I stress myself out so much over trying to get the best prices and best deals. If only money grew on trees!

Thank you- Me too, it seems pretty major to me but the vet seems to think it's not and will heal quickly. I'm also worried about his sassy sister leaving him alone to heal. February 12 is his surgery day.
bwisco123, hiccups are little twitches that are too regular to be kicks, but too slow to be a heartbeat.
For my random, here's my Friday dinner/Saturday lunch menu, all of which I'm making today before 4:54.
Tonight: Challah bread (dough is made, gotta braid and bake) Chicken soup Chicken in duck sauce Roasted cauliflower Carrot soufflé (probably should be a dessert, but I'm serving it as a side) Dessert: Mocha cake, if I can get to it, otherwise duncan hines brownies
Sat lunch: Chili mac Chicken tenders Chinese chicken salad Seafood salad (w/ fake crab meat and pasta)
Have a great Friday, ladies!!
This all sound super delicious and I'm jealous of your cooking skills. Also you exact timing is making me want to be more punctual.
I follow recipes almost exclusively and couldn't cook anything before I got married. You can do it!
The exact timing is only because cooking isn't allowed after candle lighting, which is 18 minutes before sundown, which this week in my city is 4:54. My weekday dinners are not nearly so punctual!

lgsdesigner - ah, yeeeaaahhhh, both those moms need to calm the eff down. I dread to see what happens when their kids want to head to college.
lolacachia - just out of curiosity, how much are they charging you for that whole thing with your dog's teeth (and what area of the country are you in?). I'm just comparing prices for animal dental procedures after our vet gave us an almost $900 estimate for our cats' teeth cleaning. Oh, I should note: that's $900 per cat!

We are in Ann Arbor, MI. Our vet is charging us $250 to do the X-rays, general anathesia, extract all the teeth, look at 2 broken molars, stitch all the extraction sites, and close the gap from palette to jaw/gum that his top teeth wore away. Not sure if that will include any pain management. In the interest of full disclosure, we have been taking all our animals to this vet who we adore for about 6 years when he was in a tiny building and before he become so popular for his amazing skill and great prices. We have a tremendous repoire with him, and I'm pretty sure he gives us a VIP discount. He didn't even charge me the office visit to come in yesterday.
For comparison, my FIL had to pay $450 for blood work and a skin scraping (non-surgical) on his dog, and he is about 45 min from AA in a non-affluent city. Our best friends have a dog that may require one tooth with simple extraction and they quoted them a cost of $476.
While we lucked out with a personable, skilled, and amazing vet, I would definitely be getting a second opinion on what you were quoted for the service provided. That's crazy. What area are you in?
lolacachia Sorry for your dog going through all that, sounds rough! When they thought one of our dogs needed a tooth pulled, they quoted us $2600. Um... that's more than I paid for my current car.
I had a dream last night, it was something to do with hanging upside-down a thousand feet in the air by a rope. The more I struggled, the faster and higher I would swing around. I don't really remember much beyond that, but I distinctly remember thinking to myself in the dream that I need to relax because the stress was bad for the baby, and tried to calm my breathing. Then I woke up and was actually almost hyperventilating IRL. Scary shit.
Also, hanging out with my SIL yesterday, she asked me how far along I am. When I said almost 23 weeks, she told me that's how far along her mom was when she (SIL) was born. That's insane! I cannot imagine popping this child out right now. I mean, I'm excited, but let's give this a little more baking time.

I'm in the Bay Area of Northern California so everything is more expensive here, unfortunately. I loved this vet we went to and the other charges seemed pretty standard so I was just like WTF when they gave me this estimate. I'm going to ask if they take pet insurance (see if it would be cheaper just to have that for any other unexpected costs) and/or if we could not get the x-rays done that they say they need. That'll probably knock off about $300 for both cats. Luckily, they're young and healthy so this won't be a yearly thing and the vet even said we don't have to do them both right away, just one within the year and the other within the next couple of years.
It makes sense you're getting such a good deal after being so loyal with them for so long. The prices your FIL and friend seem to be getting charged actually seem comparable to what I'm getting charged if you compare cost of living for both areas.
@ajzmommy nurserachel22 yeah I have heard that this years flu shot pretty much sucks. It just makes me sad because DH won't even let me hug him all week because he doesn't want to get me sick.

Holy cow! The cost was my worry and I was gearing up to fight with DH over it, so I was so relieved when our bet quoted me $250.

My little dog had a very similar surgery and had 8 teeth removed. I was amazed at the recovery. We expected and planned for the worst but she came through it like the little ass kicker she is. FX it's the same for your poochy boy!

I know Ann Arbor is one of the most expensive cities in the country, so we definitely lucked out finding our vet when we did. I think my FIL is actually over paying considering the area he lives in, but he doesn't like change so he keeps going back for more!
As for pet insurance, I know most won't cover things you were already quoted for or pre-existing conditions. It's great to have if you sign up early enough, not so much if you wait until you actually need it.

Yeah, that's why I'm going to sign up now. Because it's just a general cleaning I don't think it'll go against my insurance as a pre-existing condition since it's not an actual tooth problem. I know a lot of pet insurance's also have certain restrictions on breed related issues. Like if you have a Great Dane I don't think they'll cover any expenses having to do with bone cancer because they're prone to that.

It sounds like you have an awesome vet too which is great! Sometimes I think it depends on how gentle the vet is during the surgery. Dogs are so resilient though and in our situation I think her mouth felt so much better afterwards that she was relieved and happy to have it looked after. I hear ya on the baby thing though, mine is the exact same way, even now. Worse of course when she isn't feeling great.
