Sleep gowns or zip up sleepers Ergo White noise machine Hydrogel pads for nipples Tons of prefolds for burp cloths A&A swaddle blankets Nose Frida Zutano booties "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" A giant water jug to sit next to you while nursing Super comfy reclining glider (we have a dutailier xl) Humidifier CJs BUTTer
Rock n play-- DD slept in this for at least 2 months and we used it much longer just to put her down while we were upstairs. Aden & Anais swaddles-- so light and soft. they are great for nursing covers, swaddling, cleaning up spit up, etc. Mine were gender neutral, but I think I'll get another pack for the new baby! Summer Infant Swaddle me-- DD had to be wrapped up tight. We couldn't just use a blanket. Having the velcro was a godsend on these. Snap N Go frame stroller & infant seat-- this made trips out of the house a breeze. DD could be asleep and not have any idea what was going on. A lot of times this made the difference between a stress free trip to the store and an inconsolable little babe. Wubbanub pacifiers-- they are the best! DD wasn't much for pacifiers after about 9 months, but this she could cuddle with and it would stay on her belly if she spit it out. Pack n play-- ours had a changing station and basinet. I put it downstairs so DD could nap or be changed easily without me having to go up and down the stairs. Boppy-- this was awesome. It's great for bottle feeding too. We got a really soft cover that we plan on continuing to use with the next baby. I've also tried My Breast Friend pillows at a breast feeding group... they were awesome and worked a little better. I don't plan on going out and buying a whole new nursing pillow, but if something happened to my Boppy I'd consider getting this one instead to replace it. Medela microwavable sterilizer bags-- so easy to sterilize things. I picked up bags of these at a tot sale for cheap. You can reuse them 10 or 15 times (I can't remember). Medela breast pump-- I can't remember which one I have. It's great though. Plan on using it again! Humidifier-- we don't use ours all of the time, but you will want to have it on hand at the first sign of sniffles. It can make the difference between a night waking and STTN sometimes. We have a really cute Owl one, which will stay with DD, so I will get a new one for the baby. Nursing tanks with a shelf bra-- true, not the most supportive, but very comfortable, especially right after delivery. You also don't feel as exposed and my nursing pads stayed in them fine, even overnight.
DD didn't have a preference when it came to bottles, but I found ones with wider necks (see tommy tippee or philips avent) were easier to fill, especially when we transitioned more and more to formula.
What I plan on getting this time: A better glider-- not sure what yet. Our last one we got used and it's just about done, so I plan on getting a new one. Maybe a recliner or something wider so both kids can comfortably sit. A swing-- I had a really cheap one last time. DD kind of liked it, but it wasn't very good in terms of battery life or comfort. I plan on getting a bigger swing since we will hopefully be in a bigger place by then and have the room for it.
ETA: shirts or sleepers with mittens. DD would scratch her face like crazy! The ones with this built in were easier and they stayed better.
I loved my snap and go. I loved anything that played music or white noise. I had two mobiles. One in the Pack and play one in the crib. Finally, my computer chair. Lol I was one who said. "I don't need a Glider. I'm not going to rock baby". Boy was I wrong.
I will also say this since for all FTM's you may feel like a clepto but take ALL THE THINGS from the hospital while you are there. I didn't buy too many burp cloths because I was pocketing the ones from the hospital. You have full right to take anything out of that room. They are to continue to resupply you. I was told by nurses to keep a few diapers aside and take them home and they will resupply you. You are spending all that money the hospital will give you pacis, blankets, diapers, wipes, formula, and shirts for the baby. (mine were 6 month onesies lol but they worked)
Ok, sorry, please return to your regularly scheduled thread!
LEARN the 5 S's! I will bet this will save you thousands of hours of screaming (both you and the baby), and reassure you that your baby does NOT, in fact, have colic.
This is amazing! I'm going to learn more about it - thank you for sharing!
I watched the video w/ my dog on my lap & he got a little taste of his life to come - baby crying. He was so cute, he looked up at me with worried face, like, what's that awful sound & how do we make it stop!

With all four it was:
Pacifiers Prefolds for burp cloths Nursing camisoles Hand breast pump (I didn't like electric) Bouncer Mini pack n play The blue nose sucker the hospital gives you. I used one for nose and one for if they were gagging on spit up or something.
With my last, I had a Moby and a really good diaper bag. I have to have those now, they were a lifesaver. I kept all my daily necessities in the diaper bag and carried it all over the house.
This time I would love to try the ergo baby carrier and zippadee-zips.

Love this thread! For anyone that has used a video monitor, which one would you recommend? My friend has the Dropcam and I loved the quality of it, wondering if there is anything out there a little cheaper. Also, what about must have for postpartum mom? I assume gross massive pads and care supplies for BF mom, anything else? Thanks so much!

Also, colace, hemorrhoid cream (I think I used the wipes), yoga pants, bathrobe (I lived in mine in the beginning since it was cold and easier for breastfeeding), witch hazel is good for those who deliver vaginally. Any good snacks that you can grab easily like fruit, muffins, etc.
This is probably a silly question, but do you need both a swing and rock n play? I've seen both recommended bit I'm not sure of the differences...
You don't need both. The rock n play just vibrates and plays music (I think, it also might not do anything. I honestly can't remember). We used it for sleeping and to put the baby down for naps.
The swing is good because it can rock baby. Also many of them play music or have built-in mobiles for them to look at.
We didn't have a really good swing last time, but I plan on getting one for the next baby. DD seemed to really like the ones by Fisher Price (Snugabunny, lamb, puppy, etc.) Those have come highly recommended by my friends (which is where DD tested them out). They swing in two directions and have a battery mode or AC adapter. The one we had was also Fisher Price, but a much cheaper model, about $30 or $40 new on amazon. It ate up batteries, didn't have good padding, and didn't swing very well as she got heavier.
Some babies can't sleep anywhere but a swing. I hope to use it just for naps and breaks where I can clean, cook, shower, etc.

I like getting the biggest always pads they have at the store with wings! The squirt bottle you Get at the hospital, I would fill it with warm water when I went to the bathroom and it was like heaven. I would also use it in the shower. Comfy pants/pj bottoms are amazing, they are easy in and off and make it easier to no squeeze into something. A comfy spot if your breast feeding, have a set up with grab and go snacks, lanolin, breast pads, and a huge water bottle.

We didn't have a video monitor or a rock n play with our DS... and I've already bought a double video monitor and borrowed a rock n play from my sis for this one!

I bought a video monitor (the summer infant brand, it let you talk and scan the room and you could carry it around with you) when my second child was 2.5 because when she was down for a nap, she would get up and....take of her poopy diaper and...let just say make a mess. So I had to catch her. 2 kids later and I thought I would upgrade to one that allowed you to see it on your iPhone. I bought the best out there...and I HATED it. I can't say that enough. My husband was shocked because I never get mad, and this thing made me fill with rage. Lol. It was by Phillips. Ugh. So I went back to the one I had before and 3 years later it still works great.

Seriously with the witch hazel... I had a jar of Tucks pads and would line 3 or 4 of them on my pad after using the bathroom. They were a lifesaver.
