I want to get DS a new car seat. I'm not happy with the one he has which was a hand me down from his sister. It's not expired yet, but it's just not my favorite seat. It's one of the Babies R Us brand ones by Safety First. I bought it when C outgrew her infant seat but we were really struggling with money at the time and had to get 3 seats so I tried to find something to keep her rear facing until 2 but wouldn't break the bank.
The straps are constantly getting twisted, and I don't feel comfortable with the way it installs. I currently have towels rolled up under it to keep it at the correct angle rear facing and I still don't feel like it's tight enough no matter what I try.
So, I would still have to get three seats (one for me, H, and my mom). I was looking at this one since it's on sale, has good reviews, and he can use it until he's old/big enough for a seat belt booster:
H thinks I'm crazy because we have 'perfectly good car seats' but I just don't feel like it's safe since I always have problems with the straps.
I second posting in Car Seats For the Littles. I personally love the Graco MySize65. It is highly recommended by CSFTL and I believe more compact front to back than the one you posted. It's $179.99 at TRU, but for the next few days, they are doing their Great Trade In. You can bring in your old seats, and receive 25% off each new seat for every old one you turn in.
I also rec the CSFTL page. I've been there two years and it's been a great resource. You probably won't want the Symphony anyway of your current seat it making you crazy (sounds like an Alpha Omega incarnation). The Symphony tends to be outgrown altogether by 6. Rear faces to 37" or 1" fron the headrest on the second lowest position (which is almost always before 37").
I have two of those seats and like them. Initially we only had one and a different one in DH's car, but i replaced the one in DH's car simply bc I didn't like it. Those prices are way better than Canadian prices! Do you really need three though? What if you don't like them either? Can you start with 1 in the car you use most often?
We have the Symphony and I like it. That being said my Ds is in the 3% for height and weight and at nearly 18 months still only weighs 19lbs, and is maybe 30". So we are not likely to outgrow it before I plan on turning him around at age 3. I definitely would not have got it if he was a bigger/taller baby. You have so many more options in the states than we have in Canada!!
If you have a Kohl's card you can look on their website to see if they have it. I am not sure if today or tomorrow is the last day for their 30% off. The code is NewYear30. I just bought my daughter the Graco Size4me.
Why do you need three seats? Can't you just replace the one you don't like? Or did you buy two others like it? Does it not install well in all the vehicles?
If it's a seat you can keep your kid in for a few years, I would definitely buy one you're comfortable with. Also I would buy just one and make sure you like it before you buy all three.
Just in case you didn't buy a seat today - the Graco Size4Me is listed for $160 on Amazon right now. It's fairly compact front to back, has one of the highest height limits on the market, and is really easy to install with LATCH or the seatbelt. I bought one of its clones, the Headwise for my husband's truck, and liked it so much I bought another one for my parents' car. It fits great in their Ford Taurus. The only glitch with the seat is that the harness is harder to tighten than our Britax, but it's gotten easier over time. The straps don't twist - a major pet peeve of mine.
We have the symphony dlx which is basically the same thing. We are happy with it. Both of my kids have never been more than 50th percentile for height. I was able to kept my oldest rear facing until 2.5.
