I searched for a thread here and one hasn't been started. I know there was one on TB but I no longer visit. Sorry if it's a little early.
What type of car seat do you plan on buying or registering? Are you getting a travel system or just the car seat and light weight stroller? What would you suggest for new moms? What is your experience with your previous car seat if your on you 2nd+ baby?

What type of car seat do you plan on buying or registering? We have a chicco keyfit 30 from DD that we will use again, and then baby will graduate into the diono radian r120 that she's currently in. Are you getting a travel system or just the car seat and light weight stroller? We used the travel system stroller a few times a month for the first year, but I prefer baby wearing (it's just easier). We also have a Combi Cosmo that's great for malls, airports, etc. I use the jogger for longer walks. And I should mention that we just kind of got these as we needed them... we definitely had no need to start with 3 strollers! What would you suggest for new moms? Look at Car Seats for the Little, and investigate what will work with your vehicle(s). The best car seats are the ones that fit correctly in your car, and that you will be able to use properly EVERY time! What is your experience with your previous car seat if your on you 2nd+ baby? Nothing but good things to say about both the chicco keyfit and the diono radian r120!
We have the Chicco Keyfit (22lbs) from DS and we will reuse it. It was really easy to use and I like the materials better than most of the Gracos.
We did the travel system and will probably use it again until LO is big enough for our lightweight stroller / "good" umbrella. Or maybe I'll see if I can grab a snap n go type frame off of Craigslist. The travel system stroller is heavy, but it's also really nice for long day trips (zoo, amusement park, etc.) and the basket is huge. We used it a lot.
My advice: I always laugh when people spend money on the 30 pound infant seats -- by the time you move your kid to a convertible seat (from memory maybe 6-12 months ish?) they will be nowhere close to 30 pounds. Nor would I want to be carrying around a 30lb baby in one of those things. My 3yo is only 32 lbs
We're skipping the infant seat this time and going straight for convertible. I'm pretty sure we're getting the Graco 4Ever, but I'm still doing my final research.
I never used a travel system. Or a stroller much, for that matter! I will have an umbrella stroller, but a carrier will be the more likely option that I'll take.
I used a Graco Snugride with my first two babies. No complaints, but I find the infant seats awkward, so there's pointless to me. I've also had success with a Britax Advocate, and my kids are currently in a Recaro ProRide and a Britax Frontier (he's 5).

See, I understand the monetary advantage of skipping the infant seat. But what about when your baby is sleeping in the car? It's just so easy to carry them in the house in the infant seat and let them continue their nap

I don't disagree, but it's not worth purchasing an extra seat for to me. My boys would always settle back to sleep pretty quickly in a carrier.
Plus, a sleeping baby is not quite the same advantage when there's going to be two awake anyways
Looking at the chicco key fit, Britax (what we've used for the 5 pt convertibles and loved), and peg perrego. I need to make sure that whatever car seat I get will play nicely w/ the stroller I choose. I will make the final decision in the spring.

I love my maxi cosi. We are reusing. We have the peg perrago convertible and it's been great too. I plug my infant seat into my Quinny stroller. 2nd time around its nice to not have to buy this stuff again. Buying 2 convertible seats has been our biggest purchase thus far (most expensive) because one of us drops at daycare and one of us picks up. The baby seat goes with the baby. Much nicer!

We have a first years via infant seat from DS. It has a 35lb weight limit which was nice since he got big so quickly. The seat itself was extremely heavy though and a pain to carry around - we live in a raised bungalow now and when you enter the house you have to go immediately up or down, our last was a regular bungalow and you went right to the main level, it will be a huge hassle now. The stroller that came with it isn't great, but it was nice to snap in and it worked well enough for us.
I'm not a big baby wearer, it wasn't comfortable for me and DS wasn't overly fond of it so the stroller is important for us. DS is in a stage where he wants to walk or be held (not in a carrier) so the new baby will be in the stroller and he can walk or be held.
I want a Britax infant seat so badly. We have a b-agile stroller and it would be so nice to clip the seat into that. I love that stroller. DS has a Britax advocate convertible seat and we love it. He's still RF at 23m (he's a big boy - 36in talk and 34lbs) with no discomfort, and the seat is so cushy. The high sides make it look really safe to me and I like that. When the new baby is ready to move to a convertible seat we're going to get DS a Britax ff/booster and use the advocate for the little guy.

We're buying the Cybex Aton Q for the infant seat and I have a Britax convertible for after that. I am admittedly not a great driver so we're willing to spend extra on a car seat. I have a couple Cosco Sceneras for air travel, emergencies, etc, but I feel like the Britax is much sturdier - its inside is metal instead of the flimsy feeling plastic on the Coscos.

We're also getting a Cybex Aton Q. It goes with the stroller that I want and gets amazing reviews. I think it depends on your price point. All car seats pass regulations when installed properly and are safe. It's also fairly light and seems like something my chicken arms could carry.
I'm getting a Jane Trider Extreme stroller. I saw one at the store and test drove it and loved it. It folds up amazingly small, which is a huge selling point for me.
I have no other children so I am just rocking with the amount of research I've done at this point and our price range.

The convertible seats are so expensive! When I had two little ones in car seats, we had four britax marathons between the two cars. Over 1k in car seats!!
We have the graco snug ride. We had our girls in it until they were about 9 months old. We have a stroller frame that it snaps into. I used it quite a bit with my oldest but my youngest always goes in an ergo now because I prefer to baby wear.

Chicco keyfit infant seat then the Chicco nextfit convertible. IMO infant seats are worth the extra money for convenience. I agree with the PP who said getting the 30-35 pound one is a waste. By 20 pounds you will be done lugging that shit around.
Well we live in an apartment and when we had DS it was a pain in the ass to get him out of his car seat then carry him in. I always hated waking him up to get him out and not to mention the fumbling around to get my keys in the door. So I plan on getting a travel system because we need a new stroller as well. I hated the umbrella stroller because it didn't have a point harness, offer much support& comfort for baby and it wasn't tall enough for we I had to bend a little to push it.

I know they all pass the same regulations, but there's a huge difference in my $40 seat & my $240+ seat. They're both convertibles but...there's not much similarity in construction or comfort or ease of use.
I like the looks of the Jane Trider Extreme! It looks like the seat stays on for the fold? I've got an old Bugaboo but taking the seat off to fold it is a pain. What store did you try it out in? There aren't many high end stores near me

DH and I agreed on the Orbit Baby G3. We are getting the infant seat and the stroller hook-up. With my previous 3 I used Chicco Brand. The Keyfit for my last 2. Only thing was my second baby was huge. It was hard carrying him around. And with the added weight it was a pain. But my daughter she was very petite so it was easier to carry in and out of the house.

I heard about this from another momma and I'm not sure if she's on here or not! There is a place called Stroller Depot in CO that lets you test drive strollers etc and helps you pick the right one for you/your car - they do one-on-one appointments. I plan on finding one this way I'm not sure if other stores offer similar services, but I like the test-drive idea!

Just added the maxi ciao to our registry today. It's SO light. Glad to hear that you liked it! Our thought process (which is mentioned above) is that it'll be nice to have something light that can easily hook in to our stroller. Once the baby is over the 23lb weight limit, I doubt we'll want to lug them around in a car seat carrier. We'll get the convertible seat later on.
We have a maxi cosi mico and will be reusing it for this baby. Most babies actually outgrow the height limits before the weight. I agree there is no reason to waste money on an infant seat that has high limits. My one year old still meets the requirements to fit in her infant seat, she is 28 in and 20 lbs, but we moved her to a convertible at about nine months. She is so much more comfortable in her convertible (we got the Diono Ranier), that being on the road is so much easier. I don't think she liked being cooped up with the high sides of the bucket seat.
What type of car seat do you plan on buying or registering? We have a Graco Classic Connect 22 that we used for DS and will be using it for this LO
Are you getting a travel system or just the car seat and light weight stroller? I didn't register for a travel system because after research I saw a lot of complaints that travel system strollers are heavy. Instead we got a Graco LiteRider that I loved. Now we have a double stroller we will be using
What would you suggest for new moms? I highly recommend an infant seat as opposed to a convertible right off the bat. It was soooooo much easier to just take the whole seat out, especially if DS was sleeping. It was also super easy to have an extra base in DH's car so we didn't have to have 2 seats or mess with switching the seat from car to car.
What is your experience with your previous car seat if your on you 2nd+ baby? I loved the infant seat we had for DS. The bases were tricky to install tightly in my car which doesn't have the Latch system, but since we didn't have to worry about moving it from car to car we only had to do it once. We have a Chicco NextFit for DS now and while it can be a pain to tighten the straps it is super comfortable and I love all the reclining options. We take a lot of long car trips so the fact that it has so much padding and a nice plush headrest is great.

Chico keyfit 30 (need to check exp date) that I used for my other two. Lugging a bucket is so worth it to me. And for reference, my 2.5 year old is only 25 lbs. Baby will graduate to one of the existing britax we have or a diono like I am getting my olders to fit the car easier.
Travel systems are crap. Sorrynotsorry. They are heavy, big, and awful to push. If you are going to get something heavy and big at least get the Bob which practically pushes itself. Umbrellas are great but worthless until the kid is at least 9 months. We have a bob, Bob Duallie, and Maclaren volo. And carriers. Crappy strollers give me strong feels.
I am distracted and forgot the other questions/can't see past my reply on mobile.
City folk here. We are getting the UppaBaby Mesa carseat (we are also getting the Vista stroller). As city folk, our primary use for transport will be the stroller, and I figure the car seat may get used once or twice a week if we have to travel with baby further than a mile or two. Because it would often get used without the base, it's important to me that it installs securely (and looks and feels like it installs securely) without the base. The Mesa, in addition to playing insanely well with our planned stroller, installs with the shoulder harness around the back of the carseat (apparently this is called a European belt path), which I like.
The Vista, while heavy (I won't be using it in the subway, for example), can be pushed with one pinky and has large enough wheels that it will go well over anything we find in the sidewalk/street (like the gross slush and snow this weekend). I was so excited when we tested them both out in the store, they will work perfectly for what we need.
