Neither did I. It is something I would do, but I'm not sure it is something done in birth centers? It might be a hospital thing. I think there would just be a couple nurses for me and I shouldn't be there for a long time so I don't know....
runningmommy519 will they let you do touch hold while they stick him for sugars? Do they give him sucrose?
They attempted SIX iv starts on Amelia yesterday. Six. One was in her head. None of them worked because her tiny veins are blown from having so many IVs since she was born. Not sure if they are going to try again today or not. They are calling me mom of steel because I held her hand and did a touch hold the whole time. So now I'm feeling like I'm a terrible, unfeeling bitch because watching her get iv sticks doesn't make me freak out. DH had to leave the room before it started because he doesn't do blood. My thinking is that I can help her to be more calm and to feel less pain if I stay, so of course I'm going to stay.
I've banned DH from coming for vaccinations because he gets all protective and weirdly almost angry when DD screams. Yes, it's sad and heartbreaking, but there are times when you have to put all your own feelings on a shelf and just buck the fuck up for your kid. Anyways, I feel like I must appear to be an unfeeling bitch afterwards every time, but my feelings aren't actually relevant in that situation because someone else is going through the actual pain and that someone needs me to be the grown-up. If DD was dealing with anything serious, I know DH will step up, but for some reason the vaccines really get to him.
ETA: you're doing an amazing job. Seriously, I can't even imagine the strength it takes to do what you're doing and I know that your daughter must feel a lot better having your hold her through that process.

So if I knew it was going to be only a few nurses I might do something like below. It's not really a "thing" I don't think. If it was then you wouldn't get special attention right? No, it's just something my Mom does for my SIL's nurses because she's into hospital bribery, lol.
funhaven I've been drinking the Earth Mama 3rd Tri tea as iced tea for the last week... It's so refreshing! I literally just put 2-3 bag in a pitcher, add some boiling water, let it steep for 10 mins then top it up with cold water and stick it in the fridge... But I like it unsweetened.
hiimjamie +1 for no boob growth. I'm curious to see what they'll do once baby comes.
Had my weekly checkup today... I'm finally 1cm and "soft" but still pretty thick... Lol... So looks like I'm making progress. Now I feel really crampy. My fundal measurement has stayed the same for 3 weeks now, but doctor isn't concerned.
I've re-discovered chocolate drizzled macaroons and they are EVERYTHING! Also, these rib kicks hurt SO bad.

I think it's one of those things that's only really a *thing* on TCF/TD. I can see the benefit of trying to win over your nurses though. I was told by someone who works in a hospital that, while they love the treats, sometimes a glowing review is far more appreciated.
I packed larabars in my hospital bag and am fighting the urge to raid the bag.
I have all kinds of goodies in my "bribe the nurses to be extra helpful" basket and I can't seem to stop grabbing stuff from it. I really need to stop because I'm not sure I have enough between delivery and postpartum care to cover all of them!
What all are you putting in your basket? Eta: asked. Answered. Should've read till the en of the thread.

I asked my best friend who's a nurse at the children's hospital. She said goodies are an awesome idea. I'm doing one, not for bribery or to get special attention, but bc several of my closest friends are nurses and I know how much they care/how invested in their patients they get and how hard they work. I'm getting a cute basket from target and filling it with fun size chocolate and candy bars, things like Andes mints, kisses, etc.
There are so many randoms today. I just spent nearly 2 hours trying to catch up and now I can't remember half of what I wanted to respond to. I should have taken notes.
Regarding tattoos, I got my first one just weeks before finding out I was pregnant. I love it because I designed it and it holds a special meaning for me, as a visible reminder that my past does not define who I am now (I have had a hard time forgiving myself for my past mistakes). I may have started an addiction for myself though, because I'm already working on designing another.
My random: Since last night I've had this really odd sensation "down there" that feels like my insides/baby are about to fall out. I can only assume that it is just added pressure as she starts moving lower, but it is so weird. I don't like it.

motownthrowdown I get to touch him while he gets poked. He cries for just a little bit then when they have to squeeze a bit of blood out. He's getting some type of fluid but I can't recall what. They are hoping with the increased milk they would stabilize. They haven't check them since this morning. I think Suzanne asked if they tried through the tv and they haven't. That's taped up pretty good. Mo, I think are a strong mom. Amelia's lucky to have you.

I thought this was more of an after the birth thing. Like a thank you for sharing in our moment with a picture of the baby.

Oh I like that idea!
Ok so serious question: are you guys highlighting your hair? I have gotten mine highlighted twice this pregnancy and then for some reason I got freaked out about the chemicals. I haven't had anything done since April and my hair is looking disgusting. Like a good couple inches of roots and the blonde is a pretty bad brassy color. I have given up caffeine (for the most part), switched to more natural body lotion and cleaning products, ended my love affair with aspartame...and yet my vanity is getting the best of me and I am thinking about how gross my hair is going to look in pictures after baby is born.

zonagirl - I had my hair highlighted during my last pregnancy ( don't feel like spending the $$$ anymore) and think you're fine! Just make sure your salon is well ventilated!
zonagirl, I am still during my hair as needed. I am cheap and use a box though. But I am spring in for a full set of nails and a pedi this comin weekend.
I had my hair colored and I use a purple shampoo every time I wash. You might get pretty far with purple shampoo on dry hair for a bit if you want to try that first zonagirl
zonagirl I've been getting highlights regularly through this pregnancy, and I did it during my last pregnancy too. I have an appointment next Friday and am actually worried I'll go into labor early and miss it - I'm really looking forward to it! Besides, I'm counting on that appointment to blend my roots and ends closer to my natural color so when it takes me a while to get back to my stylist after baby I won't care as much
I'm still coloring my hair. Hope to get one last one in before labor so it'll last as long as possible!
And I've just decided today to do a goodies basket for the nurses in the NICU since we'll be there awhile and they will predominantly be caring for her for a day or two. Thing is, we're in the South where the heat index is 105. And this bad boy will definitely be sitting in the car for at least one day until my CSection is done and she's settled into the NICU. So nothing that melts or will potentially fall apart. Trail mix, gum, granola bars, crackers packs, any other ideas?

I just did this. I kind of liked being blonde but the upkeep is just not going to work with a new baby. So back to all brown I went. But I'm cheap and use box color. Actually I'm really cheap and I had a coupon and it was on sale. I paid .59 for my hair color lol.
joi922abvintage @kateyoung mommabakes thanks! I guess i just really just wanted to hear from other pregnant ladies that highlighted so I wouldn't feel so guilty and that's a good idea about getting it more blended/natural looking so that I can go longer in between visits.
Word of advice about the nurse basket for those who want to do one! I recommend items in individual packages for them to grab or items bought in a package that hasn't been opened. Sometimes when we get homemade items from patients families at my hospital, the nurses are paranoid to eat them because they don't really know who made them or where they are from.
Hang in there nimfalen. Sounds like you are in the same boat as I am. Swelling, high BP but no protein. But my Dr keeps saying we aren't in the clear, things can change so quickly. Ugh.
+1 more to high bp, no protein. My swelling is soo bad I have developed stretch marks on the sides of my feet. F this.
Funny random: at my interview, both men there are fathers. One has kids in jr high, and the other just had his first like 3 days ago. Being obviously close to popping, every time I shifted they flipped and asked if I needed to walk or go to L&D. It made me laugh, and really made my day.
Ugh. Yeah, this is no fun at all. I'm also a type 1 diabetic and have thyroid issues, so any little thing could turn into a huge thing pretty quickly.
Good luck ladies. Hopefully this will all be over soon and we'll all be snuggling with our happy, healthy babies
