juliayadda I have nothing to add to this conversation but I just wanted to say...
I drive an elantra GT and DH drove a civic si until about 5 months ago when he sold it to buy a truck.
The similarities made me laugh!
ETA: tapatalk failed me and made me press send too soon.
Haha! They are a great pair! DH was supposed to sell his Si when he got the ILX but decided he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. I think we will keep this car situation for at least 2 more years, but DH is just waiting (less than patiently) for the North American release of the Civic Type-R. I am too, because I will get to park in the garage again!!

ooo, I just googled that. I will have to ask DH what he thinks. I am sure he has feelings.
We talked about keeping his car but it didn't make sense... especially because hopefully in a few years we will be in the boat of needing/wanting to buy an SUV! He misses it a little, lol. He is a car guy and put a bunch of work into it.
My information is purely anecdotal because I don't have personal experience with a lot of the cars mentioned. I'm a tiny car driver myself (drove a Mini Cooper for years and when the lease was up and I needed four doors, I went with another small car...Audi A3).
1. My friend owns the Acura and LOVES it. 2. Hondas and Toyotas hold up their value really well. 3. My FIL owns a new Mercedes GL. For an expensive luxury car, he's had a few issues with it already. Range Rovers are probably a better lease than buy because as they get older and need parts replaced, those parts can be super expensive. 4. H has a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I love, but there's no third row seating. 5. I noticed the Acadia was mentioned somewhere in here. My friend hated her Acadia so much, she broke the lease early and was willing to pay all the fees incurred from that.
As I said, purely anecdotal. H owns a garage. I can ask him for more information if you want.

We have a 2014 Ford Escape. We LOVE it. The driving is easy, our gas consumption is actually quite reasonable (we get about 500km to the tank which is about 45 litres) and there is loads of room. We have 2 dogs 50 lbs+ and we'll be able to get them, a car seat and some gear in there no problem. I actually have an easier time parking it than I did our old sedan.
Married 10/10/10! TTC Baby #1 since April 2014 BFP Oct 16 - EP terminated Nov 6 2014 Off the Bench January 2015! BFP #2 June 1 2015 - EDD Feb 12 2016! Baby Boy born 15th February 2016!
I have had amazing luck with Toyota in general. I used to have a corolla, now have a Tacoma, my dad has had a Camry and tundra, my mom has a solara. Always have had great customer service, and the vehicles themselves are great. We've never owned an SUV BUT I did test drive the highlander and absolutely loved it. It just wasn't in the pocket book at the time.

I loved my 2013 Escape but we found the front passenger seat to be tight with a rear-facing car seat behind it, especially when we switched from the infant seat to a rear-facing convertible seat. It was ok for me but MH is 6' and his knees would be to his chin when he sat in the passenger seat. But the car drove great and was really nice inside. If it wasn't for the space issue, especially since we're TFAS, I would still have it. My parents have a 2012 Escape (the old style) and while it is more roomy, it drives like a truck and is not nearly as nice as the new ones.
We're seriously considering the Pilot or the Highlander sometime in the next 5 years. I hear the pilot is getting revamped for next year.
They redesigned the Pilot to look more like the Acura MDX. I actually kind of wished I had known that they were doing that in March when I got my MDX because I would've held out to look at the Pilot. I was not a fan of the old boxy style so the Pilot wasn't even a contender at the time. if I had waited, I probably could've gotten a Pilot for less money than my MDX, which would've been nice.

This is good to know because I also found the Pilot's boxey style a turnoff.
I dont think I would buy a SUV brand new... the dealerships here are offering some really low rates on pre-owned late model vehicles. Even with a large down payment and 0-1% financing a brand new version of the three I listed will be around 1K.

I really want a new SUV now because I hate the one we currently have (we got a lemon Hyundai). But we really don't neeeeed it now. We generally like to drive our cars into the dirt, but we're going to need something bigger before the hyundai is dead. DH is willing to ask about trade-in value on it, but I don't think it'll be worth crap.
I console myself with the fact that if we did get a new SUV, it wouldn't fit in the garage unless we totally reorganized. I like having my car in the garage when it's 110 out.
We have a Santa Fe. I looove it. I was nervous about transitioning to a bigger car (our other car is an itty bitty Aveo), but it's awesome. We actually prefer it to the Aveo now.
