Mom update: the feeding tube is finally out. She keeps getting fluid in her lungs that they have now had to drain twice. This could be unrelated because she was in kidney failure and on dialysis prior to all of this. She is completely paranoid for some reason and thinks the doctors and nurses are out to get her instead of helping her. I'm not sure where this paranoia is coming from and I really hope it isn't a personality shift as a result of the stroke.
On a positive note, we are checking out the Farmers Market in Kansas City today and then going to check out a brewery or two. I have to start K's beer and wine education early.
Are you going to the River Market farmers market? It's really good! Which breweries? I know you've got allegiances to beers from the PNW but Boulevard is pretty damn good!
We are at the city market... Is that the same? We are going to torn label brewery. Boulevard is pretty good.
Just got back from the farmers market with my mom, which was great, but I didn't run or swim yet, so now I have to do that when I'm not so full of breakfast burrito and coffee. And DS just figured out how to suck through a straw. So cute.

Glad the tube is out! Hopefully she continues to improve and becomes less paranoid. Did she agree to do the facility care?
Your day sounds awesome though! Have so much fun!
She is saying no to the facility care. My step dad (they are no longer together but are still close) said he would take two weeks off work and go stay with her to provide the care as long as the 24/7 part is only two weeks.
I am getting so excited for DH's party tonight! I can not wait to surprise him! He thinks that he is watching the babies while I attend a Mary Kay party. Our best friend who sells Mary Kay just lost her full time job so I told him that we have to go to be supportive. He is not looking forward to it. Then, to further throw him off, his mom told him yesterday that she was having a cookout at her house on Sunday for his birthday. He HATES last minute get togethers like that! He basically said that she was wrecking his birthday which is perfect. He is so bummed that he's turning 30 and not getting to celebrate the way he would like and he has no idea that we have anything planned. In addition to the party I've arranged for his mom to watch DD on Sunday so we can go on a hike, have some alone time at home and then go on a date for dinner. It's all going to be awesome and he is going to be so happy to have a laid back Sunday alone with me rather than attending another last minute obligatory family picnic. Also, he's going to be so touched when he sees all the trouble we went to with the train theme. It's going to be an amazing night
Here are a couple of pictures of what we have set up so far. First is our cupcake train desert table. We made devils food cake with homemade peanut butter cream icing and Reese's cups, his favorite candy.
These tracks lead from the front door to the cake table. There's also a Thomas the train birthday banner that you can't see hanging above it.
We also have train whistles and themed snacks and pizza and tons of alcohol. SO EXCITED!!!

How did you teach him? I would really like K to drink out of a straw but she doesn't get it.

We just kept offering it. We have two sippy cups we got as gifts and we never used them because he would just chew on the straw. Today he just started sucking on it like "I do this now."

Yummy I want a cupcake. Can't wait to hear his reaction!

We did the same. I just kept offering it and one day this past week she just got it. The trick was also filling up cup all the way..or at least I think that helped.

Hey Internet friendz! Had an amazing night of margaritas 'N all the food last night. I got my hair did today and I'm watching 13 Going on 30 while my boys are napping.

Your party looks awesome!! What a great wife you are!! Have a blast!
You all keep saying I'm an awesome wife but really I'm just lucky that DH has an amazing female best friend. I could never have pulled something like this off on my own and I really doubt that a man would have done all of this. But maybe I'm just being sexist
supplycloset do you have any steakhouse recommendations for KC? DH wants to go get a great steak for his birthday. Usually we buy ribeyes from a butcher and cook our own.

We've been doing it with water. The pedi said he can have juice periodically so we'll probably do that, too. I've never tried it milk. I'm not sure I'm emotionally prepared for him to only drink from a sippy cup.
I forgot to tell you guys that we had an awesome 9-month check up with DS yesterday. It's kind of a brag, but pedi said we are doing an awesome job. No sick visits, great weight gain, toppling milestones, and doing what we are supposed to (like giving vitamin D). I felt really validated, which doesn't always happen. I wanted to share because I know some of your pedis are doomsayers, and it was nice to feel like I'm officially a good mom. Also, we are inspired by you lads and we're going to do a date night (at home) and order stuffed crust pizza and pick up growlers from a couple of the local breweries we never find time to try. I'm excited! And I did my run (2.5 miles) so I can eat all the pizza.
