Hi ya'all!
i didn't see any guidelines for intro'ing here so laugh at me if I did it wrong or didn't need to do it at all.
h and I are expecting a baby boy in Nov and now that the logistics (crib, etc) are put of the way I'm really thinking about how this guy will be raised. We did chat about it before but our thoughts seem to be evolving.
H was raised catholic but no longer practices. He identifies as agnostic but I don't think he's ever really said it to anyone other than me. His mom is a true practicing catholic, although not at all aggressive about it. SIL and her fam are also Catholic.
Im atheist (and vegan, so a walking cliche). My parents don't practice anything although my dad thinks he is something (eg he talks a good game but doesn't practice or make sense) pretty sure my mom is an aethist and same with my sister.
H knows I don't want to raise our LO in a religion. I want him to learn about them but ALL of them and then make a decision for himself.
My my question is how have you handled family members wanting to take your LO to church or temple? MIL will definitely want to do this, and baptize him, but I don't want to confuse him or falsely participate in something we don't believe in. Plus baptizing a baby to forgive him of his sins just seems so wrong to me- how could he have sinned as a baby?
any suggestions to maintain respect for all without compromising what we want for our LO?
Thanks!
