Hi everyone! Hope you don't mind my popping in to ask for advice.
My cousin just emailed me tonight asking to throw me a sprinkle. My first reaction was "hell no" given that she lives 2+ hours away (so it'd probably be hosted at my house), she herself has a 7 week old baby, I'm already nearly 33 weeks pregnant, I don't really want/need a shower, and I just moved out of state so I wouldn't have that many people to invite anyway.
Her rationale is that this would "take care of" any other baby items we might need. That just feels really gift-grabby.
Help me find a way to gracefully decline while still expressing my appreciation to her-- she can be kind of self-centered at times and was absolutely awful through my miscarriage, so I want to acknowledge her thoughtfulness here.
I'm thinking something like:
Dear XXX,
Thank you so much for the offer and for thinking of this! You're so sweet.
I truly appreciate the thought behind this. I'm just not sure it would work out. Since we just moved here last summer, there aren't many people I would feel comfortable inviting. The timing might also be a little tight. I'm nearly 33 weeks, and I think most event invitations require about 4 weeks notice, which would put me at full-term (that happened so fast!).
However, if you want to come visit to celebrate the baby and DS's birthday, we'd of course love to see you, either before or after baby #2 is born.
Thanks again for the sweet offer! Love you.
