Anyone else have a baby that wants to sleep on your boob? Like, not latched on or anything, just if I try to put it away he wakes up freaking out, latched back on and then passes out again 2 minutes later. I don't know why I wear clothes at this point.
This is why I have to wear him. Put him down? Yeah, not happening.
htuzzi324 are you totally opposed to a pacifier? It sounds like LO is using you as his personal paci.
brassyclarinet sounds like a growth spurt. We are going through our 2nd currently and it totally blows! We are giving bottles of breastmilk 2x a day and that helps a lot but I totally understand if you don't want to introduce bottles yet. The best thing you can do is do all the things to get your supply up ASAP. I've posted a few recs but can repost if you want. Good luck!
Sadly already use a pacifier. He only wants it at night now before bed time.
I am a sad panda. I realized today that eating spicy food = lots of spit up and lots of fussing/frustration.
I learned this with DS1. I ate jalapeños and got a screaming baby shortly after. I haven't eaten jalapeños while breastfeeding since then. I haven't had problems with any other spicy food though.
Noah has taken to trying to help me. All day today he has grabbed my boob and pulled it to his face. Unfortunately he is also grabbing my extremely sore nipple and/or sucking said nipple right into his mouth while I'm trying to see around his arm.

W tries to "help" too. So frustrating although I read an article that talks about fetuses putting their hands to their mouths before they swallow af in the womb so it's a learned response to put their hand near their mouth when they expect food. And it's the only way they can find your nipple with such bad eyesight. Too bad they don't realize we'll help them with that. +1 to baby sleeping on the boob as well.
abvintage could you point me toward the supply support recs please? I'm on mobile and can't find them. Thank you
Sure, I'll actually just type it up:
#1 - Power Pumping -. To power pump you really need an hour to sit down and do it so make sure LO has just gone down for a nap or DH can watch him during that time. Repeat this 2x a day for a few days. Here is the cycle: Pump 10-20 min Rest 10 min Pump 10 min Rest 10 min Pump 10 min
#2 You can pump for up to 10 minutes immediately before you nurse LO. Babies are way better at getting milk out than your pump so you should have supply. If you are worried you won't have enough if you do that or have a screaming, crying baby then:
#3 Pump immediately after you nurse +5 min after you've stopped dripping. It will signal your body to make more next time.
^These helped me the most. They gets my supply up long term it seems. The next ones I saw a lesser impact, but still helped.
#4 Fenugreek capsules. I'm still unclear about how long you should be taking the recommended dose but I stopped after a few days because I was getting pretty engorged.
#6 I'm not sure if these are coincidence but I feel like they helped me; 2 bottles of Proppel a day and/or coconut water.
That's everything that I've been told by my LC, tried, and seemed to work. Hope this helps. Expect results after a few days. The pumping methods really were the best but a major pain in the ass!
Side note: make sure you are drinking plenty of water and eating enough.

Yes to #6! When I had a supply dip at 10 months with DD1, Gatorade helped tremendously. Coconut water would be healthier of course. But apparently the massive amounts of water I was drinking to up my supply was possibly causing electrolyte imbalances that the Gatorade corrected.

Oatmeal is a big help too
I've always been told Steel cut oatmeal is better...
And plus one to using propel water or smart water instead of Gatorade due to the Xtra sugars

Silly question- I feel like this is breastfeeding 101, but I've actually never gone to a single class or talked to any consultants so I'm just not sure.
If I eat something, how long until what I've eaten is in the breast milk? Just curious to know for future reference if she's gassy or fussy so I can look back and maybe pinpoint it to something I ate or drank!

I don't know if this is scientifically accurate but my "feeling" is within a couple of hours. I noticed that every time I drink a smoothie my next pumping session seems a bit more productive. I pump after every other feed so it's usually 2-5 hours later.
Add fruits to the supply boosters list also. I definitely see a difference on the days I have smoothies or fresh fruits with my meals.
abvintage, how low was your supply if you don't mind me asking? And when did you start trying these tricks?
I was only feeding him about 1-3oz each time from the weighted feeding with the lactation consultant. That was after about a 40 min feeding giving him both breasts. I was only pumping about 1-2oz each time. I started right after that. I didn't buy the baby scale for at least another week so I wasn't able to start weighted feedings on my own to know how much I was giving him but he finally started gaining weight. I really started doing all the things when he hit his first growth spurt because my nipples were hurting so f'ing bad I wanted to get my supply up ASAP. We just went through his 3rd growth spurt and this morning I pumped 6oz and last night I got 7oz!

Edit: both of those were power pumping sessions.
Did you not feel like a constant moo factory with this power Pumping thing? I think I need to do something of the sort but I'm afraid I'll feel like just a milk factory and not quite human I dunno. I really do need to increase my production and I think this seems like a logical way. Just hesitant to commit I guess. Sigh.

Honest truth, it's kind of nice. Lol. We give him a bottle of breastmilk while I do it so it's way less painful then BFing AND I get to sit and watch a TV show while I do it because I have to just sit there, so for me it's a break. Sometimes I'll power pump in between his feedings but that's pretty rare. Even if you did it just a few times it would probably work. I say give it a shot and see if you can't at least get one feeding a day with little to no nipple abuse!

I'm starting to feel like breast feeding is overrated. Lately the baby just wants to be on the boobs 24/7. She's getting plenty to eat, she just wants to eat all day long. My first would only be on the boob to eat (including cluster feedings) this one..... Boob all day everyday, my nipples are getting tongue burn. If I give the baby a bottle of formula it seems to satisfy her more. She'll actually hang out in her swing for an hour or more while I tend to my toddler. I can't give DD1 the attention she deserves with a baby constantly on my boobs, and I get frustrated with the baby because she's constantly on me. I feel bad but I'm almost ready to throw in the towel on this whole thing.

A few things. You may want to ask your LC or Pediatrician amount the tounge burn thing. It could be a sign she's already developing tounge thrust. Also is there a chance she's not getting hind milk? You may want to pump about 10 min before you give the boob because maybe she's not getting to the higher calorie/more filling part of the milk and that could be why she's hungry so frequently. Also maybe try baby wearing while she has a paci in and see if that might satisfy her. I think it's totally reasonable to give formula a couple times a day and breastfeed the others if it saves you some sanity.

abvintage her weight is steadily increasing and her poops are textbook breastfed poops.... Meaning they aren't frothy like when the aren't getting enough hind milk. I think she's just suddenly turned into a slow eater. Nibbles all day long. I'm cool with doing a bottle or two of formula a day, i'm just afraid it might tank my supply. Although I suppose my body would probably adjust accordingly if I kept to a schedule of sorts.

Who's a moron? Bibs is a moron.
I think I have oversupply issues. I literally need to calm my tits. G has been getting too much foremilk and it's making him gassy and colicky. I was all worried about producing enough that I block feed. But that means he gets too much lactose, not enough hindmilk. Bibs is a moron. Damn my large and enthusiastic dirty pillows.
I am jumping on the moron train as I just had one tablet of aspirin and LO is due to eat within the hour and I have no backup option to feed her. Here is to hoping 1 tablet isn't an issue.
bibliothecary, doesn't block feeding help with oversupply issues? I block fed dd when I was producing too much.. I was restricting her to one side for a set time which let the other side fill more to tell body to produce less.
Brain not work. I meant giving one boob and offering the other as a dessert. God, I'm tired. This colic SUCKS.

I think that you should be fine with just the one dose...but here is info from LactMed
Hopefully it gets better as his stomach matures a bit.. are you restricting anything from your diet? I had to cut all dairy with dd, and that helped her a lot I remember... I was miserable though because no dairy.
Not restricting anything yet. Going to deal with the oversupply issue first, see if the problem clears up. He didn't have any problem with my diet until my tits went all Eye of the Tiger on me.

Can anyone help me decipher this nursing behavior? DD2 is 2 weeks old and has been a pretty good nurser thus far. But over the last week, on several occasions in the evening (her last nursing session before bed- usually sleeps 9 pm-1amish) she goes a little crazy. She will pop off after a few seconds and start crying and getting really worked up trying to relatch. I'll try to calm her down by putting her to my chest and patting her back. She'll calm down for a bit, then she starts rooting and bobbng her head around so I put her back to the breast. Repeat until she finally falls asleep on my chest, usually without eating much.
I know supply is lowest at this time of day, but usually when she pops off there is milk running out of her mouth. She is also 1lb over her birth wt at 2 weeks so I don't think it's a supply issue. I do think I have overactive letdown, but she seems to handle it OK the rest of the day, and doing laid back nursing seems to make her madder. I burp her and that doesn't seem to make a difference either. The worst night was last week after eating something with tomato sauce, so I thought it was diet related, but she's still doing the same thing with me avoiding tomatoes. We did just start treatment today for possible thrush, but if her mouth hurt from thrush wouldn't it hurt all the time not just at night? Am I missing something?

noname - could be a couple things. 2 week growth spurt and/or witching hour. Most babies will hit a fussy period in their day, usually evening, where nothing seems to calm them for any length of time, then it stops as quick as it started.
