noname - could be a couple things. 2 week growth spurt and/or witching hour. Most babies will hit a fussy period in their day, usually evening, where nothing seems to calm them for any length of time, then it stops as quick as it started.
And it will drive you insane because there must be a reason! There MUST.

I jinxed myself, it seems. Several people asked me yesterday how O was sleeping. I told them all that he has been consistently giving us at least 2 longer sleeps a night. Now tonight, he has been up to eat every 1.5-2 hours. Hopefully it is just a growth spurt and he starts sleeping longer again soon.
Also, is it possible for the witching hour to be in the morning? O basically never wants to sleep after the 3/4am feed and will fuss until about 6 or 7am after that feed. Luckily, DH will get up and take care of him during that time so I can get a bit more sleep.
Thanks for weighing in heavenwhip, amberlie, @aliam20. Could be a combo of witching hour and overactive letdown. My letdown doesn't bother her the rest of the time, but maybe she's too tired/fussy to deal with it at that time.
And yes bibliothecary, there MUST be a logical explanation for my newborn's behavior! Newborns are totally rational and predictable creatures.

Whenever anybody asked this with my dd, I always just said she's sleeping like a baby does. More deflected than anything. Sorry y'all are having a rough one.

I get to complain about the same thing. When I pump myself (because otherwise my boobs HuRT) I'm getting about 3 - 4 ounces of milk. When I breastfeed, my milk EXPLODES into baby's mouth, rocking chair, shirt, everything. Baby then gets fussy and starts chocking with crazy let down. Also not getting enough hindmilk. On the plus side, I've started to give some of my obscene amounts of pumped milk to a friend of mine who just had twins. Good deed of the day I guess, but I need to calm my Tatas down.
It's so hard to get a good latch with a baby who's shaking their head in excitement at the boob, and a little mouth with a tongue that goes up and down continuously.
Can anyone help me decipher this nursing behavior? DD2 is 2 weeks old and has been a pretty good nurser thus far. But over the last week, on several occasions in the evening (her last nursing session before bed- usually sleeps 9 pm-1amish) she goes a little crazy. She will pop off after a few seconds and start crying and getting really worked up trying to relatch. I'll try to calm her down by putting her to my chest and patting her back. She'll calm down for a bit, then she starts rooting and bobbng her head around so I put her back to the breast. Repeat until she finally falls asleep on my chest, usually without eating much.
I know supply is lowest at this time of day, but usually when she pops off there is milk running out of her mouth. She is also 1lb over her birth wt at 2 weeks so I don't think it's a supply issue. I do think I have overactive letdown, but she seems to handle it OK the rest of the day, and doing laid back nursing seems to make her madder. I burp her and that doesn't seem to make a difference either. The worst night was last week after eating something with tomato sauce, so I thought it was diet related, but she's still doing the same thing with me avoiding tomatoes. We did just start treatment today for possible thrush, but if her mouth hurt from thrush wouldn't it hurt all the time not just at night? Am I missing something?
When my LO does this it is because he is tired and wants to comfort nurse, AKA mommy pacifier, but not eat. He gets mad because there's milk going in his mouth and he isn't hungry. He just tries to use me to put himself to sleep which works if he isn't full, but is terrible if he ate recently.
I desperately want to be able to pump more than a few drops at a time. One time I was able to pump an oz. Another time .5 oz. Every other time, the milk barely covers the bottom of the bottle no matter how long it's been between feedings. I'm super discouraged that I won't be able to pump at work or even leave my baby for a few hours.
I can't seem to get the timing down right. I nursed LO and decided to pump the other side when I finished. I got barely anything. After about 5 minutes of nothing coming out, I give up.

Interesting. This makes sense too. I was telling DH it's like she wants to eat because it's there, not because she's hungry.

Have you checked your pump parts. Specifically look at the little white membranes. They make the world of difference and even the smallest tear has profound influence.

Great. I think my little trip down formula road made Rayne constipated. Poor little thing is super uncomfortable and keeps crying. I'm trying all the things to help move it along. Hoping she poops soon.
Piper Lilly-lee - Born Sept 11, 2013 New Tiny Human - Due Aug 7, 2015 August 2015 - July Siggy Challenge - After Pregnancy Plans It will start like this:
GDI, I think I have mastitis. Sore breast tissue (painful), redness, decreased milk from that side when pumping, and fever of 101.4.
Anyone else dealt with this? I'm calling the doctor at 8 when I'm hoping they're open, though I don't actually know if they're open Saturdays.
really didn't want to have to deal with this on top of super painful nursing. Pity party over here.
Yep, I had this and experienced all the symptoms you listed. I let mine go for a day and started to feel very sick - aches and flu-like symptoms. I ended up at the ER because it was midnight on a Saturday, but it was a super quick diagnosis and I was prescribed a week's worth of antibiotics. Hit a 24-hour pharmacy and then went home and got a good night's sleep - felt much better the next morning.
I don't know what to do about this cracked nipple anymore. It was healing perfectly, I had almost no pain at latching, and my boob had stopped hurting. Now all of a sudden last night it was excruciating again and sure enough the crack was worse than ever this morning. His latch is fine, no tongue tie, very stretchy lip tie that doesn't effect anything. Pumping isn't working on that side as well. He finally let me use the nipple shield today but damn. Does my nipple just hate me?
I purchased these and they seem to work well. My only complaint is that their measurement is off...maybe it's me since I'm quite off lately! but I rely on the bottle for ounces and it reads almost double when I put them in the freezer bag.

Same. I rely on the bottle measurement. But they're good bags, still.

I used Medela, Lansinoh, and Ziploc brands to store milk for DD. I didn't have any issues with leaking but pouring the milk into a bottle once thawed, Lansinoh was the worst! They would spill milk all over. I won't use them again. I didn't have this problem with the other two.

Have you tried pumping the other side the same time baby nurses? I understand that it may increase output if you can take advantage of the let down. Hope it gets better for you!

Cannot side nurse in the middle of the night. My letdown chokes him. I have to sit up, nurse him in the football hold, change him, then finish up side nursing. Stupid enthusiastic boobs.
