I was never super active on the Adoption board on the other place, but I'm an adoptee and DH and I have considered adoption on and off as a way to start/complete our family.


ETA: I grew up with a closed adoption, but reunited with my bio family a few years ago, so I can also speak into that aspect of adoption.

I never posted on the Adoption board on TB, but I'd like to at least lurk over here.

My H and I have been through domestic adoption before but never actually adopted. We are currently on a home study wait list with a local agency. It's small, but it's income-based, which we like. We saw a lot of money-making schemes with big private adoption agencies the last time, and we really don't want to go that route again.

It could be a really long process with this agency, because we have a biological child and they give preference to those who do not have children/bio children. We are only eligible for "hard to place" children (usually meaning not white or with some sort of special needs), but we actually prefer the "hard to place" children. My son has visual disabilities, and I really would like to adopt another child with similar disabilities. I'm like a pro at putting in teeny tiny contacts now.

Hi everyone! I was a lurker on the Adoption boards and waiting to intro until H and I decided 100% what we want to do. TTCAL is my home board but I've been working towards moving to the adoption board - it's a freakin' scary step.

We are in the process of contemplating international adoption or donor embryo adoption. I have IF, possible early menopause, and a miracle pregnancy at 40 that ended in a 20 week loss (followed by two more early losses). It's two years since my last spontaneous pg and I'm now back to a "you'll never have children" dx from my doctor. My H has a 17 year old son who resides with his mom and is autistic. I'm not sure how his visitation will play into the adoption scenario.

I'm currently reading "You Can Adopt", "The Complete Adoption book," and "Adoption for Dummies" as recommended by the old board. I look forward to learning from you wonderful ladies and providing support where I can.

I'm going to intro in here. I just lurked on the contradiction board. My hubby and I would love to adopt but we know that is still several years off. I think we will either go through foster care or international. I'm the oldest biological sister of 9 children,5 of whom were adopted through international adoptions from both south Korea and Ethiopia (I've also spent a week in both places). So I might be able to help give insight on the affects of bringing in a sibling. My siblings were adopted at the ages of 8months,1,3,10 and 13.

Hi everyone! I was never on TB Adoption board, mostly just my BMB, but XH and I adopted DD about 3 years ago from the foster care system when she was 16. She's almost 19 now and it's been one heck of a roller coaster. XH and I definitely didn't have a strong enough foundation to weather the storm, divorced a year later, but we actually do pretty well as co-parents, and she gets along really well with DF, although she definitely has a lot of mixed feelings right now about her little sister we are having, due in May. Hoping to connect with others here and maybe get some advice/understanding about some of the experiences that seem to come with adopting older children from the foster care system.

Yes, the @ in front of the screen name should work. If you want to tag Naria, you need to use "admin" instead of her name. There is also an issue with people who have a different username than their screen name and tags not working.

I was an occasional poster on TB's adoption board (3T reg 4 lyfe lol), but I have dual citizenship between THERE and here now. My husband and I are pursuing FTA next year, and are using this year to get certified. We may be moving soon, so I haven't signed up for any classes yet, but it's in the works. I know I would mostly be a single parent, with my H traveling for work a lot, but at least I will have his financial and emotional support. I am exciting to continue our journey for a family. I'm working with a therapist to work through my grief over not having a biological child. My biggest struggle is not being able to share my Cuban heritage with my child.

Anyway, hi! I'm going to try and spend more time over here Also, hai packer!

Just wanted to say hi!!! I lurked for a while on TB (primarily on the TTGP board) and then followed everyone over here.

I just intro-ed today on the Gettin Knocked Up board. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and recently started to try to grow our family. We're TTC #1 now, but are simultaneously getting started with the foster care licensing process, since we are very interested in adopting from the foster care system too. We plan to adopt regardless if we're able to have biological children or not, but wanted to TTC first (rather than adopt first) while we're still relatively young.

My youngest sister was adopted from China as a baby and adoption has always been a passion of mine. We're so excited to start our family, and I look forward to connecting with others here!
