I love the puppy idea. I have no idea what we are doing. We plan to have it two weeks early while we are back on Washington. I think we will have it at a kids play place rather than a house so we probably will go light on the decorations.
Emmas nursery was gray so had some elephant items. Shes obsessed with a stuffed one in her room and waves to it daily. So I've decided that's the birthday theme.

We have woodland nursery but most of DDs things are foxes so I was going to do something with Finnleigh the fox and use oranges and browns and mix in fall things. But I just fell in love with a 'woodland one-derland' so might do all forest animals instead. Too many decisions!!
It looks like DH won out and we're doing a big extended family party at our house. My first pass of a guest list is 60 people, but I'm counting on a lot of people who probably won't come.
Do you open gifts at a 1st birthday party or open them after people leave? DS is obviously too young to get excited about opening a ton of gifts and I think it would be long and boring to watch, but I don't want to offend anyone who wanted to show off their adorable gift. DS is the first grandchild on each side, so I don't have any recent reference.

I have been to parties with both scenarios. I think if it's going to be a large party I would opt for not opening the gifts and just do nice thank you notes. If it's smaller then opening presents is ok.

We're in a similar situation. DH and I have very large families. We're planning on doing an "open house" style so people don't feel obligated to stay. We're planning on opening gifts after.

I love this idea!!!
I am in love with your nap mat with woodland animals on it. Wanna buy one so bad but DD isn't in daycare yet, and we aren't sure what we are doing after my business closes this year... She needs one no matter what, right?
I don't know if we'll do much of a theme. I was thinking about owls, but she also really loves cows. Mayne I can do a cute moo cow theme? It will just be a small gathering of grandma, and a couple aunts and uncles - so I don't want to go overboard.

Absolutely. Maybe it will help her adjust to daycare in the future?!
I haven't been on the board in forever, but was just thinking about birthday parties and thought to check here. I'm still unsure if we should have one at home (then have to figure out the decorations, food, etc) or at a play place (the estimates I've gotten are about $500+, yikes!). I do know that I'm asking people not to bring gifts and instead to bring baby clothing for a clothing drive benefitting a local non-profit. I have no thoughts on themes either...originally, I just wanted to take her to disneyland for her birthday and not have a party, but then my hubby wants to go to LA two weeks after her birthday. Now other parents are saying we "have" to have a party so I'm trying to think of what to do. I'm planning to just have friends with babies come so it won't be too big.

Since I got my choice of theme for the baby shower (minions) I had to let MH choose the theme for the birthday party (he doesn't get why I want a first birthday party and this gets him to care and be more involved). We are having a football themed party with a nacho bar! We are going mostly generic football themed decor but will use some of MH specific team decor we have at home. I want to make the smash cake and will probably be having cookie cake and football shaped brownie bites for everyone else. We don't have room in our town home for both families so having the party at the American Legion where my FIL is a member and were able to rent the room for free on a Sunday!
If I had my choice I would probably do airplanes. LO is obsessed with his toy airplane that my grandparents got him for an early birthday present.

I LOVE owls! Cows would be cute as well!!
I'm torn. I want to make the cake myself and think both of these are adorable.
sabby2 it was shannyshare. I kept up much more when things were on TB since the PB app is a little weird on the iPad.
I am sure many of y'all will have such cute birthday party decorations...I'm not very creative or skilled in that dept.
I'm not creative or artsy at all. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. Dollar store table cloths and paper plates. I'll print his monthly pictures and display them somehow. Definitely don't feel pressured to throw a pinterest party. LO won't remember, I swear
Winnie the Pooh! We're doing it at our house. It will be a very casual bbq indoor/outdoor gathering. And duh, there will be booze.
Such a cute idea! Madison is going to be piglet for Halloween unless she grows out of the costume too early. Also, the dollar store is pretty amazing to get decorations and party ware! With mommy brain, I had forgotten about that place...haha.
