It's my last week with DD before I ship her to daycare. What should we do this week? Besides snuggle. (If she'll let me.)
Take lots of pictures! And do a test run so you aren't stressing out the first day. I figured out what time I needed to get up to get everything done. Oh, and make a list of the things you need everyday. I keep it by the back door and mentally check things off as I put them in the car.
Sometimes DH can be dumb. I'm in bed nursing DS and he comes upstairs leaving the toddler alone. ::head desk:: I said " where is she" he says "she's downstairs briefly" umm no. Can't leave her alone for one minute, I can't take a crap in peace during the day because if I left her alone there would be sharpie on the walls, her diaper would be off and she would be sticking a fork in the outlet. He will learn one day.

windwithfingers, first, at 6 months. "Sttn" is medically defined as a 5 hour stretch. Most babies need to eat overnight until 6-9 months. There is nothing wrong w nursing baby to sleep for as long as it works. (For dd1, this was about a year). If they aren't living in your house, they don't get a say in your baby's sleep habits. The end.

I am just going to keep ranting about this measles thing going on where I live. The kid who has measles goes to school in our Catholic School System. So does my DS. There are about 7 different elementary schools and my son doesn't go where this kid goes, thank God. This kid's parents claimed religious exemption so the kid didn't have to be vaccinated. THERE IS NO RELIGIOUS BELEIF IN CATHOLICISM THAT SAYS YOU SHOULDN'T VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN!!! Why are they letting people have a religious exemption at a religious school when that religion doesn't tell people not to vaccinate??? I am so confused. Andplusalso, last week was All City Mass, so every Catholic student in the city went to mass together. Infected kid was there. I swear, if infected kid gave measles germs to kids at my son's school and he brings them home and gives them to LO, infected kid's parents are going to have a big problem. I know I am being a little crazy here, can't help it. Unvaccinated children (except for those who medically cannot be vaccinated) make me ragey!

you're not being crazy that's scary as shit! Ignorance pisses me off when it comes to people who endanger others

I'm curious to hear what people think about the bolded. Should this be a situation where an exemption is allowed? If so, do you think steps should be taken to limit contact between that child and other children?

We just had a suspected case pop up in our city. I suspect more will pop up soon. I'm so pissed.
emerald27, since you're our resident attachment parent, can you validate me on something? DS still wakes up maybe 3-4 times a night, and honestly, I'm used to it. I don't feel especially sleep deprived (though some days are worse than others, of course), and I usually nurse him back to sleep when he wakes up. We do a combination of bedsharing and co-sleeping using his Arm's Reach cosleeper. I've read pretty much all of the relevant books by Dr. Sears and I do not ever want to let DS CIO. I'm just getting tons of pressure to "spread out his feedings" at night and to put him down and let him cry himself to sleep. I keep reading that he needs to learn to fall asleep without nursing, and that by 6 months, he has to be STTN. But I don't want to try to space his feedings if nursing is what comforts him at night and I don't feel I'm losing too much sleep over it. It doesn't bother me. What do you say to these people to make them back off?
I haven't finished reading and I'm not Emerald...but I just wanted to say WWF, DS was up 3-5 times per night until 8mo, and he nursed to sleep for every nap and bedtime and overnight waking. He coslept until 1yo. He now puts himself to sleep and sleeps through the night. You know your kid. Do what works for you and for him. If it stops working, change it.
People told us he needed to be in his own room, that I shouldn't nurse him to sleep, etc, etc. I told them unless they were prepared to wake in the night with him and either bring him to me to nurse or spend HOURS comforting him (because he was genuinely hungry a lot of the time) that I would be doing my nighttime parenting in a way that suited me. (FTR, DH never helped with overnights when DS was small (and he rarely helps now) because that is the system we have...) Once I explained that they would have to do the nights if they wanted a different system (MIL and my parents mainly) and they realised I was serious, they backed down. Because who really wants to volunteer to lose sleep?
I have also just said "I'll take that into consideration" or "I'll talk to the doctor about that at our next appointment" to some unwanted advice and then done precisely NOTHING about it because unwanted advice.

I don't have to go back to work for another two weeks, so next week is our trial run. (That way if I'm late, no one really cares.)
We didn't get much snow here, just enough to hide the grass. I hope we're not in for more, we've been pretty spoiled with a calm winter this year.
I'm really looking forward to lunch. I made a salmon quinoa salad. I cooked the quinoa with garlic and onion, and the salad has red peppers, cucumbers, tomato, avocado and parsley, with a vinaigrette dressing I made, topped with salmon that was oven roasted with a bit of olive oil, lemon, dill, salt and pepper. I want it NOW!
NOM! I want all of that for lunch immediately! Avocados are my jam.

If you have a "religious belief" that you can't vaccinate your child, then I have a "religious belief" that your child cannot go to a public school. Or park. Or fucking grocery store.
True medical exemptions should be allowed. Nothing else.
LOL. I can get my toddler to eat her lunch if I pretend to eat it. It worked the other night with chicken, broccoli and some brown rice. I'll do it as long as it works.

Not your kid, not your problem?
I'm certainly no emerald, but FWIW, DD1 didn't go to sleep without nursing until 6 months. I, personally, wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks to all who responded to my parenting freakout. I guess the thing that really bugs me is people frame it as being concerned about me, when I don't even feel all that tired or sleep deprived. I get frustrated sometimes, like when DS wakes up 20 minutes after I put him down or kicks me for an hour, but I mostly don't mind our setup. People don't believe me when I say that.
DH woke up M... Now DH is snoring away... I've been up for over an hour with M. DHs days are numbered.
Solidarity. This happens to me way too often. Now that DD is in the crib she sleeps super lightly. Last night she woke up as he was climbing into bed and he apologized for having too pee and then went back to sleep. Sigh.

So DH made spaghetti for lunches this week and then asked if I wanted some to take with me. He gave me more noodles than I could ever possibly need and only a little bit of sauce. What the heck? At least make things proportionate.

Driveby potty training update!
She has been diaperless for a couple hours now and the only accidents were juice on the floor (twice) abd spilled marshmallows (a million times). I dont even have to remind her to pee. I just turn around and shes sitting on her potty peeing. Im so exhsusted but excited.
And now, nachos for lunch cuz all you lady's have been making me want them lately!
windwithfingers We are also in a similar sleeping position. He will not go down for the night without nursing and wakes 2-4 times to nurse. Sometimes it's productive, sometimes it's just for comfort. I don't mind it and I also don't feel overly tired. We bedshare 100% of the time, which is the only thing I'm trying to change at this moment. I am going to sidecar his crib so he gets used to the feel of his mattress, but I don't intend on transitioning him out of our room until he is sttn, whenever that may be. I will comfort nurse him whenever he needs it because that is what makes our nights work at this time. Do what makes life easiest for you and baby boy.

So DH is going to Memphis Thursday-Sunday and they're going to a Grizzlies game and getting a fucking box. I told him I wrote up the divorce papers when he went to HP world and if he see's JT at that game I will serve him those papers.
So DH made spaghetti for lunches this week and then asked if I wanted some to take with me. He gave me more noodles than I could ever possibly need and only a little bit of sauce. What the heck? At least make things proportionate.
Well now I'm giving up on eating food from home today since I just found dog hair in my spaghetti. This is why we have the no dogs in the kitchen when food it out rule...that apparently I'm the only one that follows.

I've probably eaten a pound of cat hair in the 7 years since I adopted my three.

I've eaten far more than I'd like, which is why the rule was instituted.

Yeah I don't even give a shit anymore there's no avoiding it sometimes. I'm really diligent but sometimes it's unavoidable. Dog hair is the fiber that holds our lives together. Haha
