Gotta love great news!
I always find it interesting/funny that babies have such tempers. At the start, Amelia would hold her breath during cares constantly. It's like she was saying, hey, I'm sleeping and happy, leave me alone! Glad miss Eliza has some sass.
That sounds like a good update. I hope you both continue to heal well. I'm glad you have a room to go to as well so that's one less thing to worry about. Still sending good thoughts your way!
Thanks for the update. You have an amazingly string little girl on your hands -hope she recovers quickly do you can get a better idea of her movement. Thinking of you!
Thanks for the update! Sorry things are so hectic for you, hope it calms down a bit after you are discharged. Keeping baby Eliza in my prayers for a speedy recovery. Can't wait for you to be able to hold her soon!
Such a great update. So glad her surgeries seemed to go well. Hopefully things calm down soon. So glad you get to see your DS tomorrow. Thinking of you guys.
You are amazing, wildermom! And of course, so is little Eliza. I'm so impressed with your poise and positivity in this situation. What a mother you are!
Hi all! Baby Eliza is doing well!! She's been healing on her belly since her surgery so that's been an adventure of sorts in trying to figure out her care. Lots of things are upside down and backwards. But she's doing great! Everything is healing well from surgery. For days post MAJOR surgery and she's even off all her meds! Tomorrow is a big day with plastics as they'll be taking off the dressings over her skin grafts, changing out a few others and probably giving a green light to some light movement and newer, easier positioning. Yay!
Second thing we're watching is her output. Usually the most common issue with SB patients is bladder/bowel control. They had been cathing her pretty often to see if she was actually emptying her bladder on her own. Since birth she's had great output and super low caths when they checked, so that's all great so far. Renal ultrasound maybe later in the week when plastics okays the movement. That might tell us a bit more about her kidney function level.
Third thing at the moment is the size of the ventricles in her brain (that's the hydrocephalus). They increased a small amount after her closure surgery but that was expected given the fluid in the back was bound to rise back up her cord once that opening was closed. But her fontanelle is still soft, which indicates that her brain isn't under any pressure. Her head size has stayed the same as well. So right now they're just making sure those numbers are going to be stable. Unless something major happens with the fontanelle or her head measurements, they've said she looks good for now and they'll just wait until next Monday to do another ultrasound to double check the size again. Great news!
Other than that, we're just hanging out. Learning to try to feed her a bottle sideways (which is hit or miss) and enjoying staring at her sweet face. Thanks as always for the encouragement. Things can be a bit hectic so I'm not posting much but I love reading about everything happening!
