I intro'd a while back, but I can't remember if I talked about my PMDD.
For those of you who have PMDD, how do you manage it? Mine is getting worse every cycle since having DS (he's 23 months). I almost admitted myself to the hospital a week ago. I just started my period today after 2 weeks of hell.
I have the Paragard IUD and was hoping since it's hormone-free that I wouldn't have issues. Obviously I was wrong? I can't do this every month. I'm on 30mg Lexapro daily, 15mg Deplin daily, and .5mg Klonopin as needed for panic or anxiety attacks. Any advice?
triplea598, I'm sorry you're suffering so much. I am on BCP to level out the hormone fluctuations. It has helped a lot, though I still fall off the deep end during the non-hormone (AF) week. I take two packs of hormone pills back to back so I only go through that once every 6 weeks. And I am going to talk to my OB next month about another option (maybe Depo?) so I don't have to deal with the non-hormone week ever. My therapist also mentioned that there are some SSRIs that work better with hormone-related depression and anxiety. He was going to look into it for me, so I can report back next week after our appointment.
Oh, the other thing I do is take an extra antidepressant during the non-hormone week. My psych suggested this as I am on a very low dose. I do think it helps take the edge off a bit. This last round I also took extra calcium/magnesium and B-vitamin supplements.

Thank you for the supplement suggestions! My psych recently upped my Lexapro dosage from 20mg to 30mg, but I'm thinking I might need to switch my BC.
I was on orthotricylcen-lo BCP a few years ago and I don't remember having problems with it...I do remember dealing with depression and anxiety though, so it might've all been related and I just didn't know at the time.
triplea598 I have PMDD and I swear YAZ has been the only BC that has helped! It's a godsend for me and I can barely ever tell when I'm about to get AF due to not having many symptoms anymore. I would reccomend YAZ in a heartbeat but that's only because it worked so well for me (ya know cuz everyone is different) *hugs* to you. I hope you find something that works soon!
I just had someone with PMDD recommend YAZ to me today. I'll definitely give my OBGYN a call. Thank you!
I have PMDD as well. I don't do well with medications so I've had to find other things to help out. I second the supplements and I up my yoga when I get around that time of the month. I also have started a journal where I write down whatever is on my mind when I feel like I'm going to explode (suggestion from my counselor).
I've heard that BCP help a lot of people as well with PMDD. I don't do well with hormones, but if you have done well with htem in the past it might be worth discussing with your provider.
