Not sure of you how many of you remember my "should I have an amnio" post from TB, and I don't want to link there. Basically, long story short, I had an early A/S at 17 weeks and they found both a choroid plexus cyst (very soft marker for Tri 13) and a cardiac echogenic focus (very soft marker for Tri 21) on Baby A. All other testing was and has been completely normal, and after seeing a genetic counselor we decided not to have an amnio.
Today I had another A/S at 22 weeks. The timing for either scan wasn't great, which is why I had two, but it's very hard to get an appointment at MFM. Anyway, the cyst is gone, which they anticipated. I'm taking this as a good sign, even though the MFM originally told me it doesn't really matter if it goes away- they cared about the fact that it was there in the first place. However, if I hadn't had such an early A/S, they never would have even seen it. The echogenic focus is still there, and they now think there may be two. I'm trying not to worry. The tech basically dismissed it, and the doctor was also very reassuring. Basically, everything I read says an isolated echogenic focus is very insignificant. The doctor said it's "controversial" whether or not more than one means anything.
We haven't changed our mind about the amnio, because with twins, it's a 1/200 chance of total pregnancy loss. And logically, everything is probably fine. If I hadn't heard that there may be two foci, I honestly wouldn't even be worried.
All other measurements were good, and both babies were the same size (a whopping 1 pound, 3 oz each). I've had every blood test you can get, all of which came back as low risk for Downs. Of course the doctor has to give the caveat that the Harmony test might not be as accurate for twins, but still.
The Internet is full of success stories about babies with an echogenic focus who are born completely healthy, but I'm not seeing much for those with two. Anyone know any good stories?
Sorry for the AW post; I'm going to do my best to enjoy the rest of the pregnancy! I guess the WORST thing is the baby has Downs, which I could deal with, but obviously you want to just hear "everything looks perfect!"....
