I'm wondering if DS is getting another cold. He's sounded a little stuffy and is coughing some. His diapers have also been very green since Tuesday.

Needless to say we didn't make it to church this morning since he wasn't sounding great. But I went back to sleep and woke up at 10am! It was awesome, but I also still felt really tired all day.

We spent 5 hours at the beach today and had a blast. I made my periodic offering of sunglasses to Poseidon and it was just a fantastic day.

DS did great at the birthday party, but he was awake for four hours so his little post-party nap wasn't enough to get him to bedtime. Poor kiddo. Nursing now so he can sleep soon.

Just checking in now - I hope everyone had a great weekend. We had a blast with my sister, bil and nephews. I wish they lived closer! We are 3.5 hours apart. My nieces were such a big help with dd and begged to do everything for her.

Back to work tomorrow. Womp womp. Will probably miss most of the fun conversation.

Nephew's birthday party went really well! My sister decided at 10p last night that she had to bake something for his party, so she ended up making a smash cake. It was super cute and lion themed. She just got assigned smash cake duty for dd's bday.

Dd missed her afternoon nap so bedtime was fun to say the least. Fingers crossed her night of sleep isn't too rough!

Thanks Momma. Being a step mom, IMHO, is so much harder than being a mom mom (if that makes sense). I think what makes it especially hard is different rules & expectations in one home than the other. I think because I was a single FT working mom, I run a very tight ship. Stability, schedules, and expectations is what both what me & my kiddo are used to. And outside of day care, I didn't have help. We were and are a well tuned machine. DHs kids mom isn't really like that and the live in nanny (technically an unemployed hairdresser with a criminal past & previous drug problem) raises them. There isn't a lot of structure. And there are no rules. I'm super hands on, I volunteer & attend every single thing I can for DD. DHs kids mom writes a check to the school to not "bother" her about things. Our family does everything together. They don't over there. Add that on top of her wanting DH to pay an ungodly amount of child support (again not my business) but never allowed to see his children and it makes for a recipe of disaster. Those little boys, no matter what their issues or behavior are, deserve the best. And damn it, I try real hard to give it to them every time they are here. Even though I'm not their mom and our rules might be more strict, I know they love me cause they tell me. So, I feel like sometimes, I might be ok at this whole step mom thing.

There's a ton of kids in a little apartment and she only does time outs with him, which isn't working. SS is a master at talking his way out of things and when he's here, he thinks that just because he comes and says "I'm sorry" all cute like, it makes everything okay and he thinks he'll get out of trouble. I assume that's how he gets out of trouble at home. He gets no consequences for his actions there, but when he's here, he acts rude, disrespectful, whatever, he gets no tv time and is sent to his room.

He's a good kid, and I know he struggles with the changes between homes, but DH and I will not tolerate a 4 year old trying to run us over and tell us what we're going to do. He has resorted to saying "well at my daddy Rob Rob's house, they let me do 'x,y,z.'" No. Just, no. My husband has a really hard time hearing his son call her husband daddy, but he can't correct him because SS calls me mama. We want full custody, but we cannot afford that court battle at all. We're scared it would make things so much worse even though we know we could give him much more time and attention and a better overall environment than she can. She's not a bad mom at all. She just doesn't have the means to provide for him the way we could.

So I guess what I'm saying is, I'm with you 100% about step parenting being so much harder than just being a mom Mom2Ms. There are so many variables and just everything is made 1,000 times more difficult. It's frustrating, exhausting, and heartbreaking.

Been MIA the past week because, life is crazy, yo.

We got a new store manager at work and, thank God, he is overhauling everything and really cracking down on the lazy employees who won't work or just won't show up.

DS is thisclose to crawling. He wants it SO bad! He goes from laying, to propping himself up on arms and knees and just rocks back and forth with this intense look of concentration. It's adorable, but makes me realize how much baby proofing I need to start doing.
He has also started eating a ton more. He went from eating 4 oz bottles every feeding to chugging a 6 or 8 oz bottle like it's nothing. I'm still only pumping maaayyybe 4 oz while I'm at work, and it doesn't appear my supply is budging. I may have to switch to formula full time and supplement with BM. I'm okay with that considering my goal was to exclusively BF for 6 months, and DS is almost 7 months now

My bff finally got to meet DS for the first time this weekend! They definitely loved each other. He was giggling for her all weekend and was being a little flirt haha I'm sad that she lives so far away.

Hi everyone. I've had a nice quiet weekend. The sky is completely filled with smoke from the fires in Eastern Washington. You can smell it. I live in a highrise and usually have my windows open, but not today!

Tomorrow my dad and his wife arrive for the week. They will meet DD for the first time! I am so excited to see them, and for my dad to meet his first and only grand-daughter. I wish we weren't so far apart. I am glad for airplanes and video chats and email.

It can be a real mother effer. But when the kids randomly come up to you, out of the blue, put their arms around you & tell you that they love you, it kinda makes all the other bullshit worth it.

Do you have a few days of overlap between the two places? When we moved, we spent a day packing up the kitchen and moved the kitchen stuff, half day for the bathrooms and half day for clothes, half day for decor. Then movers took the heavy stuff.

Good luck. It's exciting to have a new place but I hate moving!

Mom2Ms Sorry you guys are going through this. Hopefully you guys will get full custody. Is the 5 year old starting kindergarten this year? I'd request an evaluation from the school district even if he wasn't starting this year to make sure he's developmentally ok and if he's behind, get him the services he needs. It's hard making them eat different things or do different things when they're with you versus their mom, but different house means different rules. Maybe get their input on meals (like give them a list of options and let them pick the weekend's meals) and get them to help with the cooking by cutting things or stirring?
