So, I thought I'd jump in by starting a thread. I have been SAH for this past year and exclusively nursing. She still eats 7 times a day plus 2-3 times overnight. (We bed share and I sleep through most of these night sessions). She was MSPI but we have slowly added dairy back in to both of our diets and all seems well. She is/was a slow but steady gainer so I never wanted to drop feeds (we were doing 8 per until about a month ago). She didn't really eat solids much until about 9-10 months and even now will eat no more than an ounce or two of puree plus a little table food for a meal. She does like water but doesn't drink very much of it either.
Anyway, I'd like to continue to nurse and let her self-wean but it would be a whole lot easier if she weren't still nursing every 2 hours. So how the heck does this transition from "under one, food for fun" to food as nutrition take place? Is it baby-led? I will be asking the docs (family and GI) at our upcoming appointments but thought I'd throw it out here as well.
Hi! I'm on the OAD board but have a J14 baby. I saw that this forum was up so thought I'd pop in and see if there was anything here...I was on TB J14 board for a short time on and off under a different name.
I only have the one LO so I'm no expert but what I've found is that LO is making the transition on her own. She has never been a big eater - always wanted to breast feed - but has just recently started showing real interest in table food. Over the past month she has gone from small amounts of purees and table food to eating everything we do at meals (like entire bowls of rice and veggies, potatoes, pork, fish, beef, etc). I just started back to work on Friday. My mom watches her and on Friday I had to go home for lunch to nurse her, but today she ate like a champ and I didn't nurse her until I got home...and even then she seemed more interested in sharing my dinner than nursing.
I would say offer food regularly but follow LO'S lead. They will let you know when they are ready.

As soon as I started giving Brennon food, he loved it so much and our weaning process started. He's now down to one substantial nursing session plus 1-2 comfort nursing sessions. He drinks whole cow's milk and water throughout the day. My experience is not going to be very helpful for you.
But, I will say that you could probably start offering her a larger variety of foods, and more frequently. We didn't abide by the whole food before 1 was just for fun thing. I just let him lead the way. When he started to show more interest in different foods, I started offering more variety.
