I live in central ma and work in Boston. I am considered an essential employee so I get to travel too work. kristhegirl covered the basics. I would add that you should have milk eggs and bread because apparently in a blizzard it is required to make French toast.., we have a driving ban in place, meaning they don't want ANY CARS BESIDES EMERGENCY VEHICLES in the road with the plows and you can get ticketed. Stay home, enjoy your snow day! I can take a picture but it's not really worth it yet in the morning it should be substantial.
Legit lol at emergency French toast! Seriously, though.
I mean, don't endanger your life or anything, but could y'all post pictures? My Alaska girl heart misses snow.
I'm sure no one will feel bad for me, but this is only my second winter away from upstate NY and I miss the snow! (I'm in Alabama now, and it's been at least 50 for the last few weeks)
kristhegirl Here is one from this afternoon in Madison Square Park. It was snowing pretty heavily and we got a couple inches in a couple hours, but has paused for the moment. NOAA still forecasting 8-12 tonight and another 8-12 tomorrow so we shall see what happens. I'm not planning on going downstairs tomorrow, so someone else will need to share pics if we do get the serious accumulation.
I wish I took pictures of the storm in '03 - we were in college and it was amazing to see people skiing in Riverside Park afterward.

That's wicked pretty. Have a safe trip to work today! Hope you can take the train in instead of driving.

Boston and NY both shut down train service and imposed travel bans by car except for essential/emergency employees.

I can't see out of any of my windows and can barely open the front door. The winds are still howling out there but have managed to keep power so far. Will take pics later!
kristhegirl not as bad as we were originally expecting in CT. Was told 2-3 feet, but we *might* have a little over a foot. It's still coming down pretty hard though

That's our patio. You can see our poor grill and koi pond. Looks like about 15-18" so far. Hard to tell because we have drifts. Oh and there's our dog, Bruce, trying to run around in the snow, lol.
Now I'm having anxiety. My H and I work together and I know my boss is going to go in today. My H says f it we are staying home but if my boss goes in, I feel like I HAVE to go in.

Loving the pics! Not loving the travel restrictions and not being able to see out of windows, though.
We never really got blizzards in Alaska, just heavy snow. "Just." We'd get several feet overnight and still have school the next day - but then the city is used to and prepared for big snows.

Snow still going strong here. Winds have died down a bit. We got lucky because usually at the coast we get the heavy wet snow which takes down tree limbs and power lines. We totally lucked out!

Stay safe and warm, East Coasters!
that's how it is here too! But Ab is definitely used to huge snow dumps lol.
We got about a foot and its still snowing. I am kinda annoyed at the News right now that keep showing Mid-town. We don't have black top anywhere. Yeah the highways do and some major streets but the rest of us don't. Thankfully the boss isn't giving me a hard time to get in.
Took a few pictures but they don't really give it justice. I wanted to take one at street level but my husband doesn't want me to go outside because he is afraid I might slip going down the stairs. UGH.
Wow, such great responses... After I posted the thread the hubby and I cuddled up to watch TV for the rest of the night. We're in CT, and didn't get too much where we are... but it's still coming down. Unfortunately, my husband works for a cable company and he was required to go into work since they lifted the travel ban in our county. Huge bummer.

Our snowmageddon here in TN consisted of a light dusting that has already melted... But I'm a teacher and it got me a "snow" day which was much needed, so I'm not complaining I grew up in Ohio and Michigan though, so I kind of miss real snow accumulation.

Are you out in Queens or BK? It seems to have cleared here (I'm in southern Manhattan). I couldn't see Governor's Island earlier, and now I can see past the Verrazano.
I haven't gone outside yet though and I don't plan on it. Glad the storm mostly passed us by and grateful to be lazy.

I'm in BK. Its stopped snowing. Now its just windy, blowing the loose snow around. We were recently plowed so now I'm feeling guilty for not trying to get into work.

If your commute is anything like mine, you shouldn't. Walking the half mile back to my building from the subway last night was treacherous, because of course, some people salted and cleared continually (thank you Marriott) while others did not bother at all. If falling would only hurt me, I'd care a little less, but being clumsy and pregnant, I'm grateful for any excuse to stay indoors. I almost bit it going down the stairs into the subway yesterday during the afternoon storm, and that was WITH holding onto the handrail AND only moving one stair at a time like an old lady. (I think I was passed by actual old ladies.)
I'm on eastern LI and we got hit hard, I can't even estimate a number because of all the blowing and snow that's still coming down on and off. That's DH car parked across from our condo, luckily they've started plowing and shoveling.

I commute by car. The train is a half a block from my house but it would take over an hour to commute by train with two transfers. Much easier to go by car. Almost the same amount of time but I much prefer to drive. I actually find it less stressful.

We got about 26 inches and are expecting several more overnight. Work and school are closed again tomorrow. Grateful we're not dealing with any of the flooding or effects of hurricane-force winds like other communities are. I see some people online making fun of all the hype about the storm... where we are, the storm lived up to the hype! It just didn't affect all areas that were potentially in its path the same.
