Welcome to the sort of bi-weekly insomnia check-in. If you would like to be added to this check-ins, please send me a PM so that I can tag you in the future. (Please let me know if I am missing anyone) mama2a @led runnergirl8122kiddosoreille @mschrystalb lo95
*We encourage all who are currently struggling with or recovering/recovered from insomnia to join us.
1. Are you a current, recovering or recovered insomnia sufferer?
2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger?
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working?
4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep better?
5. GTKY-- Take #2 - This check-in is here to help.I'm always open to suggestion.
1. Are you a current, recovering or recovered insomnia sufferer? Current.
2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger? Always.
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working? I keep a strict bedtime, even though most of the time I end up getting back up because I can't fall asleep. When I get up I take an extra anxiety pill and go back to bed as soon as I feel even a little bit sleepy. I've also started trying to take naps in the morning, around 8a, if I slept less than 3 hours the night before.
4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep better? My anxiety med was recently increased and it seems to be helping a little.
5. GTKY-- Take #2 - This check-in is here to help.I'm always open to suggestion. The only thing I can think of is to encourage all of us to post here throughout the week with updates, or just talking/venting about what is/isn't working, posting new things to try or resources/articles that we come across. I don't know. Just talking more.
1. Are you a current, recovering or recovered insomnia sufferer? Current, pretty much permanent due to Narcolepsy.
2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger? Always.
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working? Medication. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep better? None. MH has been out of town because we are relocating at the end of the month. My sleep is all of whack with him being gone during the week. It's pretty frustrating.

2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger? Trigger. Going back to work after DD was born has made it much worse.
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working? I try to go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time. Even on the weekends. If I wake in the middle of the night, I try to just rest and not be active.
4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep better? I asked to go part-time at work this week, and I've been sleeping a little better. I'm still working full-time, but my work is willing to reduce my hours. We've considered me being a SAHM, but money would be really tight. I don't want to add that to my stress.
5. GTKY-- Take #2 - This check-in is here to help.I'm always open to suggestion. What would you do different with this check-in? Post the check-ins regularly and/or change up the questions.

I wanted to remind everyone that if you are having a rough night you can post in here. You don't have wait until the next thread to pop up to discuss issues.
This is an insomnia check- in so other people are often awake as well and appreciate having someone to talk to.

I'll try to post more when I'm up in the middle of the night in case anyone else is bored with me. I think this alone would make this check in much more useful!
I took my anxiety meds and a unisom and I'm still not getting tired. It's only 11p, but I try to go to bed by 10:30 ish and tonight I'm wide awake even after the meds. It's annoying. I wish I could just sleep at night like normal people.
I don't drink caffeine, I don't do anything but sleep (or sleep with) in my bed, I try to stick to consistent bed/wake-up times, I have a bedtime routine to help me get ready for sleep, and still nothing. I don't know what else to try.

Blah.
I get that. I can't remember the last time I had a normal night sleep without medication.
Which kind of Unison do you take? The one with the antihistamine makes me jittery.

I have really bad RLS, so diphenhydramine is just misery waiting to happen. I use the doxylamine. It usually makes me sleepy enough that I can fall asleep and the klonopin will help me stay asleep for a couple hours. On or the other and I'm just up all night.

I was too lazy to look up the correct word. I usually know when I look at the label if it has something I can't take. Anything with diphenhydramine is a disaster for me too.

Do they have you on extended release?
No, just regular ambien. Is there an extended release? I rarely wake up before 5am with the regular dose. So I sleep most of the night.

2. Did you always suffer from insomnia or was there a trigger? Trigger - after my DD was born 19 months ago (PPA)
3. What are you doing to treat or cope? Is it working? Vitamins, herbal medicine. For the most part they have been way more helpful in controlling my anxiety, but have not been super effective with insomnia. It's better than a few months ago, but I probably still only average 3-5 hours on a good night. It's frustrating.
4. Any major break-through lately that has helped you sleep better? Not really.
My insomnia is worse before and during my period. So about 2 weeks out of a month, I'm irritable and exhausted. I'm so sick of this. I wish ambien would work for me. That gets me angry too - like why the heck am I the spechul snowflake that none of the traditional sleeping meds work for me? I'm at my wit's end.

What dose of ambien did you try? Sometimes I have to take 10mg but am only really prescribed 5mg. Dr lets me do that occasionally. It doesn't always work for me at 5mg.

And apparentally, I can't read the label on my own bottle. It's ER, not CR...but basically, same deal.
You weren't asking me but thought i'd share. I take the extended release. It's made a huge difference for me. I was initially on 12.5 mg, but have been able to successfully step down to 6.25.
2kiddos and @wallieflower, I was on 5mg but went up to 10mg and it still didn't work. I have never tried extended release though, my previous doctor put me on Ativan instead. Ativan still didn't work at safe dosage.
I slept ok last night - slept from 2ish to 7. But I hardly got any sleep the night before, so it isn't nearly enough to make me feel better. I'm starting to feel depressed. Time to look for a therapist.

It's amazing how even one night of poor sleep can mess you up for days. Not having MH here and then traveling has messed with my sleep big time.
I experienced a paradoxical effect with Ativan. I was severe enough that it triggered a manic episode. However, I know other people that have done great with it.
I've had some success finding psych providers using the database on psychologytoday. I hope you can find someone you work well with.
@wallieflowers, I've been keeping a log of my sleeping and one messed up night definitely keeps affecting subsequent nights, according to my journal. I become too exhausted to fall asleep.
I slept fairly well last night except MH woke me up at 5am. Ugh. I managed to fall back asleep a bit before kids woke up at 7:30. I just want to check myself into a hotel room over the weekend and try to get some uninterrupted sleep.
@unmaggie2 - I wish that our brains would let us catch up on sleep. That would be awesome. Do you have anyone who could take your kids for the night just to give you a mini-break?
It's after 11p and I'm wide awake. Usually I would get up and get on my computer, but I'm going to try staying in bed and see if it helps me get sleepy faster.
In other news, I found a new schizophrenia forum that's actually really active. So I'm looking forward to the support I can get from there.
@wallieflowers - I know, it almost feels like my brain cannot shut itself off to fall asleep. I've done lots of mental exercises, including yoga and meditation, that I'm not actually actively worrying or thinking about something. But I'm sure whatever that's bugging me is in the background keeping my brain up.
We don't have anyone who can take the kids overnight. MH will get up with the kids on weekends and so I usually get a bit of extra sleep. But the kids still want to come into our room, and the noises of MH telling them no and the ensuing tantrum still jolt me awake. It's tough.
I've noticed that I get my "best sleep" in the early hours of the morning. Like 4 or 5am. Any sleep I get before then is usually one of those stage 1 sleep. I may have one of those "delayed circadian" disorders. I've read light therapy might help. I'm thinking about trying it.
