It's after 11p and I'm wide awake. Usually I would get up and get on my computer, but I'm going to try staying in bed and see if it helps me get sleepy faster.
In other news, I found a new schizophrenia forum that's actually really active. So I'm looking forward to the support I can get from there.
It's awesome to have a board that's active, I hope you get the support you need
I was probably up when you posted this, but I'm trying to limit my internet use at night by turning airplane mode on. I still need my phone to listen to podcasts to fall asleep so can't just turn it off. I also try not to look at the time )

I did. I finally gave in around 1-2 and took some meds.

That's great about the forum. It's hard to find a decent MH forum that is actually active.
I'm not a fan of the one I found for Narcolepsy. I don't like the vibe at all.
Sorry to hear you ladies had tough time sleeping this weekend. I had a tough time as well, just tried to stay away from the Internet since all the articles recommend turning off smartphone/computer devices a few hours before sleeping. I am sad to say it absolutely made no difference this weekend.
I'm trying to cope with anger when I can't fall asleep. I'm okay until it's 1am, even 2am but once it goes past that I start getting really upset and helpless. MH is a saint and he will give me a shoulder rub and try to calm me down when it gets bad, if he hears me getting upset. He's usually a deep sleeper so it doesn't happen regularly, but I'm always thankful he is so understanding. I am just hesitant to do down the prescription med route again. It really affected me negatively (to clarify - due to their ineffectiveness, not due to side effects).

Have you tried getting up and doing mundane tasks when you can't sleep? For me staying in bed when I can't sleep just makes the anxiety worse. And I feel you with the ineffectiveness of sleeping meds. Sorry they don't work well for you.

Same for me. Folding laundry seems to put me fast asleep.
Sorry to hear meds are not working, LED. Is there any alternative your PCP suggested? I hated it when my PCP wouldn't prescribe me anxiety medsbecause he wanted a psychiatrist to manage them, but the wait was over 2 months. The first few nights were terrible, anxiety on top of insomnia. Then it started getting better. Now my anxiety is mostly under control without meds. I do take magnesium supplement but it's just vitamin/mineral which supposedly helps with anxiety.
I'm going to get a box of puzzles to do for when I can't sleep. I used to housework when I couldn't sleep, but it's gotten to a point where I have to save my energy in case I can't sleep at all. I think puzzles and maybe adult coloring book may be good, so I'll try them.
Fell asleep after 2am last night again. Kids slept in till 8 so I actually got at least 5 hours, which is better than most nights.

I had to stop taking the meds because I got pregnant. So a good reason, but doesn't really help with the anxiety/insomnia. I'd rather not take anything if I can avoid it, and luckily I don't have to worry about being able to go to work or anything, so I can rest all day if need be. It's just difficult.
Coloring books and puzzles are great night time activities. I had to stop with the puzzles because I would just keep going until I finished them and not sleep, but coloring is still a go to for me. Sometimes I will even find intricate drawings online and just use MS paint to color them.
@led - congratulations! I'm on mobile (not app) most of times so I can't see siggies (if you have the info there). Hope you are doing better tonight without meds. How far along are you? I hope the pregnancy hormones start making you feel relaxed and sleepy. I got incredibly lucky with my pregnancies in that I was so relaxed and slept great almost every night. Like 9pm to 6am full sleep. Miss those days. I went to an evening yoga tonight so I'm relaxed. Still working on getting upset when it starts getting late and I can't sleep, but meditation helps. Oh, and I ordered a couple coloring books. So excited!

I'm only 4 weeks, so not far at all, but it's anything but relaxing. I have a long history of losses and until I can hold a living baby I don't think I'll be able to rest. Though getting out of first tri would be a welcome change!
@led, sorry to hear it hasn't been easy. Hugs. I def understand being on the edge until the baby is breathing and smiling in your arms. I will keep my fingers crossed for a healthy and uneventful pregnancy and a healthy happy take home baby.
I've been up for 40+ hours and I'm not getting tired. I even tried taking a Unisom and no dice. I decreased my Haldol last week and if this keeps up I'm going to have to increase it again. Ugh. I really hope I can get some sleep!

Oh no! I just saw this! Hope you got some good rest by now.
It's 1:45 and I can't sleep. I was reading an article that said walnuts are supposed to be good night time snacks because they're high in tryptophan and help stimulate melatonin production. So I had some of those. I also tried taking a unisom and then some benedryl and still no luck. And at 10 when I first tried to go to bed I was completely exhausted. I still am, I just can't actually seem to fall asleep.
It's so insanely frustrating. I just want to sleep but the longer I don't sleep the less sleepy I get. I've tried doing mundane tasks, reading things that aren't interesting, meditating, stretching, snacking, cleaning, ... I'm not sure what else to try. I just know that I NEED to get some sleep.
Hey @led, how are you feeling these days? I haven't been checking this board as much because it's pretty quiet here, but I'm right there with you on nighttime struggle. I've pretty much accepted that I'll never fall asleep before midnight no matter what I do. However, I have been falling asleep and staying asleep for the most part which is great. I just wish I could fall asleep a bit earlier for full night's sleep.
Walnuts and dates contain selenium, and supposedly help with sleep but I never got sleep benefits from them even though I ate them regularly before bedtime. But some people swear by them, so it might be worth it for you to continue? Plus it's supposedly good for baby's brain development.
I'm about to have my period so my hormones are all over the place and i feel anxious and restless. My sleep always gets messed up around this time too ugh.

I'm doing alright. Still sleeping like shit at night, but at least I'm able to get a nap in during the day some days. I'll have to get some dates. Make a trail mix of sorts.
I'm sorry you're also having issues. PMS always tore up my sleep as well. I hate it.

I'm glad you can get some naps in. I can't nap ever these days. Hope you had an okay night. My sleep was not too bad, but I woke up very early in the morning (didn't look at the clock) and had pretty much stage 1 sleep till I eventually got up for the day. Once I get my 5 yo to his school in about an hour, I'll be able to relax a bit with my DD. She's very chill, and plays very well by herself. I can pretty much just let her be if needed and relax a bit. If she will take a nap, I plan on working out. My sleep doesn't improve a whole lot with exercise, but at least it makes me feel a bit better.
