Ok, oh wise ones, my kid is super congested and she tummy sleeper. Am I being ridiculous to think she could get pink eye from rubbing her face on the snotty sheets? She's a major face rubber to get to sleep. I lent out my PNP and don't want to wedge the mattress because she's a big roller.
My LO has been super congested for at least a month and wakes up covered in boogers all the time. He has yet to get pink eye. Honestly I never knew it could be a possibility.
I always was told you get it from getting snot/boogers in your eye. I had a feeling it was an irrational fear though. I never thought this was a thing, but she really does seem to sleep better when she cries first, which isn't helping the snot. I feel awful leaving her in theranything (only for 5 minutes at a time) but she isn't having any other symptoms other than the snotty nose. Especially since the alternative is sleeping in the rocker with her. The snot is clear too, so I'm pretty sure there's no infection or anythING. This is just one of those times where I have no freaking clue what to do and I don't like either of my options!
No, you're not ridiculous. DS gave himself pinkeye by rubbing his snot in his eyes/all over his face/all over his clothes/you get the idea like this several times, though mostly when he was a bit older...like 2+. She'd have to really get it in there, tho. Eh, keep an eye on her and GL!

Ahhh! No! Just when they talked me off the ledge! I'm hoping that since it's clear it's not as bad as if it was green...right?! I'm never laughing at neurotic mothers again.
With DS it was always with the thick green nasty stuff...and I swear that kid has the grossest snot of anyone, ever. We've never had the pink eye problem with thin runny snots. Sorry for bursting your (snot)bubble. ;-)
I always thought pink eye was either from poop or your congestion backing up into your eyes (if that makes sense). Clearly I'm no medical professional, though.
D is snotty too. I have no idea what to do for her. Hers is clear too. I've been saline and booger sucking it up for two days now. I feel so bad for her.
At what point do you have to take them in? She doesn't have a fever so I'm afraid they're just gonna tell me to keep doing what I'm doing.
I called our doctor and that was basically all they said to do. Her poor nose is red (even with boogie wipes) but I'm tired of watching her eat snot.
Can babies have allergies? Because I know I've been having mini flare ups randomly and get the clear snotty nose.
My pedi said not this early usually and they wouldn't look into it until a year old. I asked because LO sneezes like 6 times in a row a few times a day and I thought it could be from the animals.

I called too. They told me what I was doing was exactly right and told me when I should worry about coming in. Love my pedi nurses. I feel much better.
LO has been snotty and congested. My pedi said suck the snot out, have a humidifier going in his room, try to prop him up a little when he sleeps and put him in the hot steamy bathroom to help loosen things up. She also said as long as he has no fever, isn't breathing rapidly and doesn't have a whistle noise to his breathing there's no need to bring him in. Oh, and she also said it could take a couple weeks to go away. We're at about a week and a half and he isn't really snotty anymore, sounds much better and is sleeping much better(not waking up coughing as much) but he's not totally clear yet.

We are on cold #3 since starting DC 2 months ago. Yeah, can you tell we are susceptible to colds? Yup.
In any case, you CAN get pinkeye from boogers but it's all that easy to get. Not nearly as common as the bacterial madness that goes through DC. I too was horrified that LO was going to get pink eye from his snot because he rubs it all over his face but he hasn't yet. 3 colds and a tummy sleeper.
Don't let this freak you out too much gingy but if they have a lot of snot and sinus pressure, snot can come out through their eyes. And oh, do I wish I could tell you I'm joking. It's super gross but it's not pink eye and it's just another fun clean-up step to do a few times a day right after they scream bloody murder from the Nose Frida-ing.
That's so disgusting bobloblaw! My cousin's baby spits up out his eyes. Babies are so weird.
That's good to hear though your LO hasn't had pink eye. I could see wet spots on her sheet on the monitor and I was freaking out because she has to rub her face on the sheet to fall asleep. I'm pretty sure it was mostly drool though because when I went in she was pretty snot free.
Can colds make them spit up more? I'm thinking yes because of all the drainage. D is 10x worse than she usually is.
Sounds like our DDs are on the same page because mine H's been spitting up more too! I can hear it in the back of her nose/throat. If only she could get a loogie going.

Mine spit up more too. We're EFF, and he had a hard time taking his bottle since he was having a hard time breathing through his nose. It would seem like he was drinking but then he wouldn't really swallow, and then he'd start coughing and it would all just come right back out. Formula and drainage sometimes! Yuck. He also got way more disinterested at feeding time too.

@lemonpielover YES 11tybillion times over.
LO has reflux and getting a cold is just FUN, FUN, FUN for that.
And yes, "Oh, Mommy- I love you so much here's a painting of my boogers all over you!" It makes me smile though. He's so happy and doesn't know the difference when he's sick so I'll take the loving, even if it means I'm caked in boogers. Yes, it's gross but I end up with whatever virus he has anyways, you can't stop the germs!

I slather aquaphor under his nose a couple times a day and it helps the redness.
Also, (quote fail) on the allergies - kids CAN have them this early. And pedi who tells you otherwise is working with outdated info. An allergist can give you more accurate info.
mandapanda1382 I must have misspoke. Yes they can have them, but my pedi will not test for them until a year because it can also be many other things. Every pedi is different.

gingy I had to come back and let you know that my son had to come home from daycare on Friday for having conjunctivitis! Seriously one round of the eye drops and he was 100% fine but I just thought it was so weird. While we were at the doctor for that, she heard some wheezing so prescribed him an inhaler. I dutifully used both all weekend with no problems. This afternoon, I call daycare at 12 pm like normal to check on him. All is well. Then literally 45 minutes later they call me back to tell me he is breaking out in a rash! It was splotchy and looked allergy-related, so I took him BACK to the doctor and they confirmed - could have been either one of those new meds, or the antibiotics I'm on, or a heat rash, or something else entirely. To top it all off, he's still snotty/congested and still coughing.
I AM SO READY FOR MY 100% COMFORTABLE BABY BACK! I hate seeing him struggle with a stuffed up nose, with a bad cough, with the rash, with sore gummy eyes.
