Me! This would be pretty sweet. Is it weird that I'm having a hard time believing it's actually true? Not because it's a bad source, but because it would be such a monumental shift from our current policies.

DH is a federal employee. I don't think I'd be able to have him home for 6 weeks (although I am definitely grateful that they are working towards an actual policy on this). He mentioned 3 weeks the other day, and I told him 2 would be fine. We have both sets of parents near by (and both have already asked for time off around the anticipated date), so help would be available. Fingers crossed though that even if he is granted six weeks, it will be better than I am imagining.

Have him take it after you go back to work (assuming you work outside the home otherwise this whole post is going to be silly)!  I had a friend whose husband took his leave for a month after her 3 months were over.  They saved a month of childcare costs and also her hubs got really good at taking care of the baby.  Its win/win!

I work from home, but my DS goes to daycare.  I wouldn't be able to concentrate on work if I had him home.  I do like the idea of him staying at home for the month after, except that I hate when I hear him having fun with DS on the days they get off and I am stuck working.  Hmmm.... decisions, decisions.

Dh is a fed and I was a fed when I had my first. This would be great, but I'm not holding my breath. Someone explained it to me like this. Your salary is payed for by tax payers. Tax payers shouldn't have to pay for maternity/paternity leave, because it's your choice to have a baby. Idk. I guess some people feel this way. Probably the people that dislike Feds in the first place.

Just make sure he confirms with hr that he can do this, and confirm what type of leave he will be using. I have a fed friend who did this, and he is having some real issues.

Since it's Thursday, here's another UO: FUCK PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT!  The lack of paid parental leave in this country is a national embarrassment.   All those "family values" types who spend their time cluck-clucking at single parents and working families because it's their "choice" to have a baby (because every single pregnancy is planned, of course) make me sick.  Children need care.  Every parent needs and deserves time to bond with and care for their newborn child.  And they shouldn't have to risk their job or stop paying their bills to do it.  It's not that fucking complicated!
