ETA: About a month ago DH wasn't feeling well and couldn't find our normal thermometer, so I told him to use the BBT on my nightstand. He said "Ew, isn't that your vag thermometer?" Yes honey, every morning when you hear the beep of my BBT go on I pull down my undies, stick it up my vag then request to you to use when you aren't feeling well.
Thermometer on top of phone. Alarm set for 6am on FitBit (so it wakes me up silently). Put therm in mouth, wait for beeping to start (mine beeps every 4 seconds to let you know it's working...) Wait for series of annoying beeps. Go back to sleep for appropriate length of time.
Lately though, the dogs have caught on that the beeping means I'm awake and they'll annoy me until I get up and feed them.
For those who vag temp, may I ask why? Have you tried orally temping?
I think it's particularly helpful for those who breathe through their mouth while sleeping. It's also more consistent and can help smooth out some of the rockier parts of your chart (if you have them).

I temp orally. I only need to temp between 5:30 and 6 to get consistent temps, even if I was awake at 3, 4 and 5. As long as I go back to sleep, I'm good. If I don't go back to sleep, I notice my temp is much higher than it probably really is and I make a note.
I mouth breath and snore something fierce but I always see a shift in correlation with a positive OPK.

I temp vaginally. I wake up, shove it, wait for the beep, take it back out, and turn it off. I don't look at it or record until I am actually ready to wake up for the day. It saves the data. I just hold it down to pull the temp back up.

Orally. I skip AF and generally stop after it's clear that ovulation is confirmed. It's easy for me to go crazy over-analyzing individual temps, so usually stop between 5 and 7 dpo.
I temped orally for like three years. Switched to vaginally after our second loss last summer. My temps are more stable and I worry less about outside factors or my user error this way.
I have done both. I am thinking about going back to vaginal because the temps are more consistent and easier to follow, especially in the winter (stuffy noses = mouth breathing).

Another vag temper here. I wear a bite guard so I didn't even try oral temping. I actually tempted during my period this cycle (I use a cup) and usually go straight through but this cycle will stop in the last week because I don't want my alarm going off at 6:30 while on vacation

I've been temping orally this month but plan to switch next cycle. I've been super consistent as far as same time, about the same amount of sleep, no travel, etc and yet my chart still looks like this:
I'm hoping vag will give me more stable temps and probably more peace of mind.

I temped orally my first two cycles and switched to vag temping (as well as from Target BBT to Mabis) this cycle because my temps were all over the place. It isn't a big deal to me and instead of having to smother myself with a pillow on the weekends so the beeping doesn't wake H up, the blankets and whatnot muffle the sound.
Temping at the exact same time every morning seems to make a pretty huge difference in the consistency of my temps, but everyone is different. I also don't skip during my period but I use a cup so it isn't messy.
I'm a vag, skip AF temp-er. I started out temping orally, but tried a cycle vaginally just out of curiosity and stuck with it. I feel more confident with my temps now, and it's not nearly as big of a deal as I had built it up to be.
I test vaginally based on the advice I have seen given on this site. I tempt last month while on BC and my temp was not as consistent on the weekends and I noticed if I woke up and was hot my temp was out of control. I was actually waking up and sipping water then waiting a few before temping. I've only been doing vaginal temping for like four or five days but I feel it's more consistent and I don't have to worry about any variables like my snoring.

I'm a mouth breather and sometimes my temps are rocky but I still see a shift and get crosshairs. I typically skip period days and lately clomid days as well. So it's been about a week in that I start.
pismoduo I love that feature on my fitbit! That is what I use to wake up to temp and then my phone alarm if for getting out of bed. I temp orally and I sometimes temp when AF is here.
