I strip my inserts with a tub soak. I fill the tub with hot water and add 1/4 c of bleach and let them soak for an hour. Then I squeeze them out and throw them in the washer with several extra rinses.

No.
Like I said, others might have different suggestions. This happens to work great for us.

Stripping can be for lots of things. What the best way to strip is depends on what needs to be stripped out. A vinegar smell sounds odd. Are you sure you don't mean ammonia? I like to start with a hot water strip because to me it's the simplest thing to try first and helps a lot of different problems. Multiple hot washes no detergent. I would troubleshoot your routine in general, too.

Thanks ladies! Again I'm a newb, so I don't really know what I'm doing yet or all of the lingo so feel free to flame away! It's all trial and error, as well as reading your tips to others on this group
My wash routine is as follows in an HE front loader: Quick rinse/spin on warm w/calgon (I have very hard well water) Then heavy duty cycle on Hot with 5tbls of EcoSprout Lastly cold rinse/spin
It's just the prefolds that are starting to sink, as we have been using those the longest since her AIOs only just started to fit her... I wouldn't say it's a barn yard smell but a vinegar smell if that makes sense. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thank you!!

Issue one, Calgon should be used in your detergent cycle.
Ammonia usually means too much detergent/buildup. Liquid detergent usually doesn't get much love because of the buildup and 5 T sounds like a lot of soap.
It hasn't been that long since Op posted. ... maybe she's off parenting or some shiz
Oh come on. like you don't hit refresh refresh refresh when you post
Lol...not really, I try hopelessly to catch up on other threads, or keep V from injuring G. Or himself. He's been trying to learn how to jump. And jump off of things.

It's in a powder form and the recommended amount is 3-4... So I could be using too much
Oh ok I wasn't sure. Yea you definitely might be using too much. If you need to add that much detergent to offset the hardness of your water, try the Calgon in the main wash and if you are still using a ton, switch to a detergent that combats hard water a bit better.

I would def use less. Try the recommended amount and smell them after the wash cycle

And yeah, first step I would follow rrrrrachel's suggestion for a hot water strip. Then I would address your wash routine- moving calgon to detergent cycle and lowering detergent amount. You might consider changing detergents too. But I hate to suggest making too many changes at one time or you won't know which change actually helped.

Thank you!! I'll give that a try on my next wash!
I think you still need to take care of the sink issue you have now. Hot water strip should help for buildup. Then try changing the amount of detergent.
