Anyone else having horrible cramping while bf-ing? Definitely worse than with DD. I ended up taking an oxy....
I've heard it gets worse with each baby. It's been true for me so far :/ sooooo not looking forward to that this time!
I agree, they told me it's worst with each one. Omg this time was so bad, I had to take pain meds for a week. I would be fine till I nursed then I was screaming and could hardly breath. I told DH that part for me is worst then L&D.

Yes, I can now confirm that it is true, also! Omg. I've been taking pain meds for it too! After L&D, I don't want to deal with contractions anymore, damnit.
Love tit for solidarity. Dude I get why Mother Nature works this way to help shrink back the ute, but this is cruel and unusual punishment. It's awful. I just want to get to the hormone high stage of BFing, not this nonsense

Anyone else have a baby who is up all night? DS likesto sleep all day and it is a challenge to get him to breastfeed during the day. It's so bad I've even put ice packs on his back and feet and he hardly reacts! Then he is up all night. Last night he was up from 11 pm to 4:30 am and he wanted to feed all night long. The only way I've been able to feed him that long is through pumping during the day. It's obviously hard to keep a supply up with him doing both things. How do I get him to switch from night to day feeds? My fear is that he will end up being and EPer and I would really prefer not be an EPer.

@maggie0424 it sounds like he has his days and nights mixed up. I would keep trying to feed every 2-3 hours during the day. Diaper changes or tummy time work well to keep my LO up. She usually falls asleep on the first side, so then I will change her diaper or play with her a bit to get her woken up and try the other side after a 15-30 min break. I just let her eat on one side and fall asleep at night.
My left won't empty! I'm only getting an ounce, maybe two if I'm lucky each pump session. I've been massaging like crazy. It's not painful, just annoying. Doesn't it know I have two babes to feed?!
How long does the cramping last? I'm only on day 3 but I swear the pains are worse every day. I can't remember to save my life but it's just a few days generally, right?
I'm pretty sure the cramping ended a day or so after I got home. I had to be on oxy for them with Tylenol and Motrin. Motrin helps the best for cramping. But yeah, they sucked. It was like labor part 2. I'm 10 days out and haven't had any cramping in a long time.

Good news I'm on day 3 and they are way better already. Day 1 and 2 were awful. Ugh.
My milk came in and we had a horrible night last night. It was taking him over an hour to latch each time because I was so engorged. I've started pumping for 3-5 minutes right before I feed him to soften the nipple and it has helped a lot. He still takes forever to latch sometimes but it's a lot better.
There were some moments where we were both in tears last night.

Ugh sorry that's the worst. My milk is coming in as we speak and I'm not looking forward to tonight.
Would have been nice if my toddler hadn't self weaned three weeks ago
Does anyone else's LO thrash there head back and forth as you are trying to get them to latch? My little guy does that and I am using a nipple shield so it is very hard to get him to latch on when he is doing this. Most of the time he knocks the nipple shield off. After a while I get frustrated and he gets frustrated so we move on to his bottle of formula(low supply so we have to supplement, really 90% of what he gets is formula). Any tips on how to get him to not thrash about? Second question has anyone tried cluster pumping, where you pump every hour or more frequently, to try and increase supply? If you have did it work??

lepeters I did power pumping with my DD. I don't think it made a big enough difference for me to be worth it. More milk plus worked the best for me. I would say it gave me an extra .5-1.0 oz per pumping session.

lepeters, LO did the thrashing around with his head while I was using the shield too. I found that swaddling him and basically pinning his head between my body and my arm really helped to get him to not thrash or knock off the shield. It took some practice, but I think he finally realized that if he didn't move so much, he'd get to nurse much sooner.

Anyone trying to nurse in bed at night? I'd like to not leave the bed if possible, but I'm having a hard time getting comfortable even with a lot of pillows, it's hard to lean back at all, it makes his latch funny. Any suggestions before I give up and just go to the living room lazy boy?

lepeters - I'm using the Motherlove more milk special blend and have seen an increase as well. Haven't tried the power pumping.

We do. It's either that I sit on the edge of the bed with my breast friend pillow, or more often, I'm lying down and we do side lying nursing. This kid loves sleeping on his side so it works for us (fftc?)

Have you tried side lying nursing and putting LO in the crook of your arm? It's a life saver. With DS I started propping and putting the nursing pillow on, then I moved on to side lying.

We do. We lay down to feed for those sessions. It works well for us but I have to do reverse pressure massage before to soften the nipple for him to latch.

Anyone else have a super strong baby who pushes your boob away with a hand while thrashing or desperately searching for your nipple? I tried swaddling him but then he's too comfy. He has to be mostly naked to eat or else he falls asleep. Any recommendations for this?

I was contemplating side nursing last night, but I was terrified I would fall asleep. Maybe I will, but strip myself down instead of him so I'm just a little cold and will stay awake.

It's completely your comfort zone but many mamas do doze off doing this. As long as you set up a safe environment for you both it can be done. It also depends on how heavy a sleeper you are, and what your DH is like too when he sleeps.

Yes!! It was so very frustrating at first because I felt like I needed another hand to hold his hands down. Have you tried changing holds? Now that my babe is a couple weeks old, we've started nursing more in the cradle hold. We were doing cross cradle at first, but cradle works better now since he has a bit more neck control and a stronger suck. To solve the issue of the insistent tiny hands, I put both of his arms down by his chest and he usually holds one of my fingers while he nurses. It's made things much easier.
Last night I figured out how in cross-cradle I could tuck his top arm under my other boob to keep it under control!

I need to practice other holds. I finally got G to latch on for a few minutes doing cross cradle hold so I'm going to be practicing her nursing at least once per day. I wonder if side lying is worth a try. I just don't want to encourage her to fall asleep.
