Wow jodielyn10, that is some heavy stuff. I didn't know that your ex was abusive to you. I'm happy you are in a happy place today.
The thing about guns that scares me today is their growing presence in our lives. About a month ago, a car driving past my neighborhood let several shots out in the air while joyriding. And stuff like that is becoming more common around here. Where and when I grew up, stuff like that wouldn't have happened. It's scary and I don't like that my kids will grow up possibly thinking stuff like this is "normal." No matter your stance on gun control, it's clear the reverence for an immensely powerful thing is being lost.
mrsrek10, I don't think anyone thinks it's a simple issue or that all guns need to be taken away (I wouldn't be against it, personally, but I can't imagine it happening here). But my problem is that there is a crazy belief in this country that ANY additional regulation is unacceptable and goes against the 2nd Amendment.
I don't think most ppl think it is a simple issue but some do. You can see that on FB and in some media. They basically say no guns = no violence. I wasn't implying anyone here thought that. Really my whole point was how we focus so much on the weapon but not the illness behind its use. Part of my client load are children with mental health disabilities. My husband's cousin has bipolar disorder. I see adults and children suffering from severe depression. The stigma of mental illness, lack of economical resources, lack of understanding, etc bother me. These people need help and it starts early. My client with Conduct Disorder got kicked out of school bc he was acting aggressively in middle school. His mom can not afford the types of mental Heath services he needs and insurance doesn't cover it. Without help, he is caught in the headed to prison pipeline...all bc his body chemicals are out of whack. The ignoring of this issue in our society bothers me. The guns involved in the shootings and the mental issues of the shooter are equally important to fix.
Didn't mean to be such a Debbie downer mightybee, I guess I'm just annoyed that society only seems to care about gun-related deaths when one person kills many. The problem of guns in our society is much more pervasive. I agree with summergirl1211, that I would personally be fine if every gun was gone but that's not practical and will never happen. But that doesn't mean Americans have a blanket right to own any firearm they choose. There is a whole lot of room between those two extremes and I think we as a county should demand to find a solution that works. Clearly the status quo is not working.
ETA: I also 100% agree with mrsrek10 that mental health/addiction is the other half of this problem that is not addressed either.
It's so rainy and dreary here today and will be all weekend. These kind of days make me long for my childless days. I would love a day of watching a series on Netflix and lounging on the couch! Instead, I'm covered in others' boogers and being crawled and jumped on. At what age do you start to appreciate these kind of days...haha.
I was excited and bummed at the same time when my new dart teammate found me and sent me a friend request. More bummed because now he knows I'm married.
I've been straight up ignoring a FB friend who is sending me messages to see if I want to do a 21 day fix challenge. She asks me every time her group is doing one. I tried to say nicely I'm not interested the first 3x. No I don't want to buy your shit, and thanks for continuing to ask me, you don't need to remind me I'm fat. I give no shits that FB probably shows her that I read the message, back off lady!

My thoughts on gun control? Everyone has to submit to ongoing mental health exams. And you have to check your guns out of a facility for use for hunting/sport shooting range activities that keeps them held for every legal gun owner. Ha! That would go over splendid, wouldn't it? But I just don't get the reasoning/need to keep them in the home as protection because I'd never in a million years use one, nor do I want my kids anywhere near them. But I grew up with hunters and H likes to hunt so I wouldn't want to take that away either. There are huge issues with our health care system, but where do you even begin to discuss that?
