I'm looking for new shampoo and conditioner. I don't want to spend a ton ideally less than fifteen flats a bottle. My hair is dyed, on the thinner side right now, and dry on the bottom, greasy at the roots.
I rotate shampoos and conditioner brands every so often too. I feel like my hair gets used to a particular one, I need to jolt it into looking better at times. It's probably all in my head, but if makes me feel like I'm an active participant in making my hair look better.

My hair is similar in that it is oily at the roots and dry towards the ends but it is thick. I usually use Fekkai Color Care, which is kind of expensive but you can sometimes get it on sale at Target. The only kind of cheaper shampoo and conditioner that seems to work with my hair at all is L'oreal Total Repair.
I can't recommend a brand because our hair types are different, but I can tell you that shampooing as little as possible will do wonders for your hair. Keeps the greasies down after a while which is important for thin hair.
I have to have sulfates. I need bubbles and foam otherwise I don't feel like my hair is getting "clean". I rotate every shamp/cond purchase. I'm too cheap to buy fanceh bottles so I'm going to lurk this post for inspiration.
I like the Big & Sexy volumizing shampoo or Redken Body Full and try to get it at the JCP salon when they have the gift sets cheap or the $10 coupons. If I can get big bottles of the Big & Sexy they last a long time so it's worth it.
My hair is colored, straight and fine. I usually use a more moisturizing conditioner once a week, and I steer clear of anything with too fragrant or that bothers my scalp. I also agree with pp, I find that that washing every other day and using a dry shampoo (I just use Suave) in between helps prevent greasiness and keeps up the volume better.

I like Redkin, and I get it when it's BOGO 1/2 off at my Hair Cuttery, so it comes out to about $11-$12 a bottle. I've used the red bottles for color-treated hair, the hot pink ones (sulfate free), the green ones (volumizing) and never had a single complaint.
I also will add that "It's a 10!" is the best stuff on earth to put on after you get out of the shower before you comb through, but it's pricier.
They're pricey, but I buy all my bottles from Ross, Marshall's, and TjMax.
I also use this. After a while though I felt like I was getting a build up. My hair dresser convinced me to try Purology. I like it, but can't spend that much on shampoo ever again.

I don't really love it or hate it but I've used Pantene since I was about 10. I have naturally wavy hair and my ends also get dry. Pure argon oil works great for smoothing the bottom of hair...just don't put it near your scalp and only use the tiniest bit as it can make your hair look greasy.

I have tried shampooing every other day, but my hair gets oily and limp on non wash days. I also have bangs right now and they look like a greasy mess. It looks great on the days I wash it. I think maybe I need to try a different brand of shampoo.

You could try a milder shampoo (sulfate free or one of those really natural brands) but it can take a while for your hair to normalize it's oil production. If your constantly stripping oils with harsh shampoos, your scalp goes into overdrive and makes more than needed. Also, brushing with a boar bristle brush every night really helps distribute the oils down the root of the strand, instead of it just soaking up in your roots.
I use warmed honey a couple times a week on my roots instead of shampoo and I have good results with that. My hair really long and thick and it waves if I air dry (which is 90% of the time cause it's easy).

Right now I am using L'Oreal in a black bottle with a burgundy rim. Its like Regenerate or something like that. It was less than 5$ a bottle. I love it so far and its smells good. I use a different shampoo every time my bottle runs out otherwise my hair looks like a grease ball. So I don't pay lots of money for things like that.

This is probably a stupid question, but honey is really sticky right? How do you get that out?

That's why it's warmed up.; it thins out at higher temps. I only use a bit at my roots and then rinse really well with really warm water, followed by conditioner. There's nothing left by the time I'm done.
Just DON'T leave honey in your shower and wash it off surfaces. I had ants ALL OVER my tub after the first time I tried it. That was fun!

Ants are the worst! I may be scared off this completely now! LOL. Thanks for the explanation. That makes more sense!
