On the topic of birthdays; we always focus on just serving good food and a cool cake. We never do much for decorations. We invite family and close friends, but we still always end up with 40 or so people.
We enjoy it though. It is a great time to get people together. For lo's party, we are serving hot beef sandwiches, hot dogs, and hamburgers. I just cooked up all the beef and shredded it and then froze it on Sunday. I've found doing as much as possible early on relieves the stress so much. I will also have fresh fruit, seven layer dip, and pasta salad. I try to keep the menu simple. His cake is going to have a frog on it and saying Hoppy Birthday.
