Anyone change their schedule once school started?

My situation is different because I have a long commute (about 1 hr) and our schools let out early every Wednesday, so I am not really loving DD having to be in the after school room for so.very.long all the time. She has fun there but I am pretty sure the fun will wear off soon (she's in K this year). I've been noodling over changing hours or cutting back to PT and am still undecided about the best thing to do.

In your case, I think I'd probably stick with 4:30.

What will DD do after school from 3:30-4:30 if you don't change your hours?

Obviously we're still far away from making decisions like that, but since it's all on site and she'll be getting extra outside play time, I'd probably lean in that direction. I would assume that based on your line of business, being out of the office at 3:30 has a relatively substantial impact, and if I remember correctly, Pre-K, K was when I REALLY hated the fact that my mom would come pick me up while I was playing.

Hi there - I would say it really depends on your DD. Would she benefit from extra time with you? We have kind of the same situation. My husband and I are both teachers and DS1 goes to Pre-K at his building. Our work day begins at 7:30 and ends at 4. DS's actual class time is 8:30 - 2:30. At the beginning of the year I was on maternity leave and I picked him up at 2:30. Honestly, it drove us both a little crazy. He wanted to be with his friends in after care and was bored being at home with mom and a newborn. Now he goes to morning and after care at the school until I pick him up around 4:30. Then we get DS2 at daycare and are home between 5:15 and 5:30. It took us about a month to get used to the schedule (and there were a lot of days in that first month where DS would fall asleep on the way home) but it works really well for us. We get home, he plays while I make dinner, we eat, he plays for a bit more or watches a show, then bath and into bed by 7:30. I guess you should think about what you want your evening to be like too. I don't know if this helps at all as I feel like I'm rambling now...

I fully plan on utilizing before and after care. He already goes to daycare a full day (8-5:30) so the hours are no different for him.

To change my schedule would mean more working during family time. I would rather lump all work into office hours and home in off time.

privacy, I never realized your clients were East Coast. We could have carpooled to the bump together. Not that I'll have an East Coast portfolio much longer!

If you're going to be there an hour earlier anyways and can swing it without it effecting work, I'd head out early.

I would totally give her the extra hour to play. I like a schedule where I get off early 1 or 2 days a week- is that a possibility? Right now I get off early on Friday and I hope to cut back my Monday hours too and I think that will be perfect.
