Hi Ladies! I'm mom to a 14 month old boy, and I'm fairly active (off and on) on the A14 board. I've lurked here before because I developed a seafood/shellfish allergy when I was 5 months PG with DS, and once we started solids the pedi would not test DS for the allergy, but recommended we keep DS from trying all seafood until he was 2; so I lurked just to see some other peoples experiences.
Recently I've begun to think DS has lactose intolerance (to a small extent).
4 or 5 times right after a bottle (yes I still give bottles twice a day) before nap/bed he has had terrible gassiness - screaming, wiggling around, grunting, and lots of flatulence. I didn't think much of it until last Tuesday he was up literally all night! That coincided with 5 days of constipation (he finally went on Fri). We took him to the Dr. on Thursday, and while the pedi saw him (they didn't really want to until I insisted) he basically said everything sounded/felt fine; told us to give him some juice and if he didn't go in 3-4 more days try myralax.
Last night after DS's bedtime bottle we went through another 6 hours of gassiness. I of course started researching "Dr. Google" and have decided to cut most dairy (I'll continue with yogurt (unless ya'll suggest otherwise) because people don't normally have a reaction to that) and I bought a 1/2 gallon of lactose free milk to try.
A little more background. DS was FF from 10 weeks old with "gentle" formula. I thought the "gentle" formula was a good way to transition from the breast milk and just never switched, he didn't ever really have gas issues as an infant. He has been on WCM exclusively since his 1st bday. Like most toddlers he LOVES fruit and I would say this has been the only "big" change in his diet recently, over the summer he was indulging in a daily ration of blueberries (his favorite), watermelon (a close 2nd favorite), strawberries, peaches, and cantaloupe; these are obviously not as readily available now that fall is officially here so he hasn't been getting as much. I try to feed a fairly balanced diet (veggies are difficult at times), and he certainly doesn't over-do-it on cheese or other dairy products. We still give the 2 bottles a day because while DS LOVES drinking water out of a straw/sippy cup he WILL NOT drink milk out of it.
That's all I can think of that might be relevant. Just looking for advise, similar experiences, products, etc.
TIA!!!
