I feel like I posted this once before but now that so many of us have outside babies I wanted to post again because I wish I had known this the first time around. Would have saved a lot of heartache.
Before you start building a monster freezer stash, please check to see if you have excess lipase in you milk.
It isn't harmful but it can turn you milk, either in the fridge or while frozen, so it tastes soapy or metallic. I have it and it can ruin huge stashes of hard earned milk into something your baby won't touch.
It's easy enough to fix before you freeze it, but once it's turned, you can't fix it after the fact.

Do you happen to know if it can change from baby to baby? I didn't have this with my first but haven't checked my milk this time around. Although my toddler has been drinking it mixed with whole milk in a sippy cup no problem... Haven't tried a bottle with DS yet.

I was wondering the same thing. I will ask the LC at the support group on Monday.

Hmm I dunno! I think I remember reading somewhere that it can indeed change baby to baby but that if you had it before chances are you will again. I just know it was a huge PITA with DS. I've heard some babies don't mind it but my generally adventurous eater was not s fan.
So would it be a good idea to kill a bag out and thaw it and see how it smells? I don't want to keep putting it in the freezer if when I take it out when she goes to daycare it will all be bad.
You can tell by just leaving freshly pumped milk in the fridge for a while. Some people's milk turns in a few hours. Some take a day or two. I think fresh milk can stay in the fridge 3-6 days or so, so that would be enough time.
To be extra safe you can pull one small bag from your freezer and thaw it just to see what it smells like and if your little one is good with it. It's a pretty distinct smell.
I have it with my milk. I did with DD also. You can smell and taste it after thawing frozen milk that hasn't been scalded.
My method is to scald every other day - that has completely fixed my problem.
If you have it, you will know by the taste. Mine tastes metallic. It's awful. After scalding and freezing, it tastes exactly like fresh pumped.
My tip for those scalding is to scald in a small sauce pan & then pour into bottles to let it cool before finally pouring into bags. If you let it cool in the sauce pan, the fat will stick to the sides and it's hard to swirl it to get it off.
