This is all well and good, but don't tell other moms that what they do is awful. Moms don't CIO for fun, it's usually a last resort
Regardless of your stance on CIO, the beginning of this article depicts a gross exaggeration of how most CIO that I've seen is done. Most, again not all, women I know who have resorted to CIO don't just plop their baby in the crib and let them scream bloody murder while they puke all over themselves for fifteen minutes. It was hard to read the rest of the article with an open mind honestly.
This is a terrible example, I said I came across it and it reminded me of something I am against. DD HAS puked during a fit, she does sweat, she does cry so hard her body shakes and she can't control it... It's truly awful.
And FTR CIO =/= a child whimpering or whining for a few min before sleeping in my book. Or even a few tears and then sleep.
A "friend" told us of the time her baby screamed for FIVE hours and she had to leave the house. I'm against that type of CIO, I do believe it harms a child.
also, the nerd in me would like to know how many people during outbreaks are vaxxed vs. non-vaxxed.
Ooh! I saw this statistic for the Disneyland measles outbreak the other day, but I can't find it again. I don't know which news site had the article. It think there are about 68 measles cases? Just 6 were vaccinated, and of those 6, most were kids and hadn't received both injections. At least one was an adult who had received both injections. The measles vaccination is supposed to be highly, highly effective because measles doesn't mutate. One shot has a very, very high percentage of giving immunity to measles, and with 2 shots it's in the upper 90s.
I saw that too. The part that stood out to me and scared me the most was that 6 of the cases were infants who were too young to receive the vax.

That is not CIO, that is neglect.
I've CIO with both my kids and never have gone past 5 minutes to go in and reassure them. Also if they would have ever gotten sick from it I would have stopped it that instant and never try again.

I actually agree that is neglect. And I don't think going in every few min is the kind of CIO I'm against. And I like that you would stop if your child got sick from it. I've had many people tell me to "just clean it up and let them keep going" Breaks my heart.
I believe in vaccine injuries and my DD is at a very high risk for an auto immune disease and is on a delayed vax schedule (no more than 2 at a time) sanctioned by her dr. I feel that to run around shaming parents for seriously weighing pros and cons of what they put in their child's body does parents and children a disservice. I'm not good with words especially when I'm upset so I won't go any further. But it's seriously offensive to call parents stupid and god knows what other terms I've seen for even questioning a CDC vax schedule or choosing what they believe is the right course of action for their child/ren...
Flame away.
I think I'm outspoken about my pro vaxx views and sticking with the schedule, but that's because I know there are people out there like your daughter who for some reason can't safely follow the CDC guidelines. I feel like people who choose not to vaccinate for no reason other than they don't want to are thumbing their noses at the luxury of being able to safely make that decision because they live in a 1st world country where most children are vaccinated. They get to make that decision because so many other parents choose to vaccinate, but at the same time they are selfishly putting people at risk who can't get all the vaccines. It makes me angry.
My MIL took in three of her distant nephew's kids because their parents are in jail. When she got them they were 3, 1 1/2 and 4 months. They had one sibling in between that died of SIDS. The baby died right after her first set of vaccines after the hospital and the mother took this as a sign that the vaccines killed her (I don't know where she got that idea). The two younger boys there for never got vaccines and the oldest just stopped getting them. They have more complications in health than you can imagine. I don't know details, but apparently some of them could have been prevented. I don't know the nephew and crazy wife (distant In Law family), but my MIL is now trying her best to get these kids back on track. Most preschools and day cares wouldn't even accept them. It's very unfortunate.
PS. I am in no way comparing this woman's choices with anyone on her, just wanted to share.
I think this seems to be an UO, I think my MIL is pretty awesome
I'm jealous too. My DH got so lucky, he has the best MIL and FIL any guy could ask for. I mean, of course I'm biased, but seriously, my parents are so easy in comparison. He'll even admit that.

TBH I would have a very tough time doing another vax on another kid if one died right after EVEN THOUGH logically I knew that wasn't the actual cause. Like if I went running one day and found out I miscarried the next the likelihood of me running the next time I was pregnant would be about nil--despite knowing that a run doesn't cause a m/c
My UO (or maybe it's a confession): After all the scary personal security stuff that has happened on TD, it kills me when people post pictures of themselves ALL.THE.TIME. on here. I get the random HDBD post or whatever, but seriously? Every single day? There are still creepers that lurk over here and can see that stuff. And really, if you're posting pictures of yourself every day, it's extremely AWish and you're going to get a side eye from me.
@honeylemon - I get what you are saying, but there is nothing wrong with posting pics in posts related to posting pics.
Yes, I am guilty of posting two posts this week that required photos. Both were to liven the board up and to have a little fun. I see nothing wrong with posting pics of our 38-40+ week bellies, and also the pre-pregnancy post was more than just photos. It was a list of GTKY questions, so again, not really anything out of the norm. Both posts were very active because people enjoyed it. As far as the safety of the photos, no one is holding a gun to anyone's head forcing them to post pics. If someone wants to steal my photos, go right ahead. I am not all that exciting nor am I that attractive, so if someone really wants to act like me, then more power to them! As the old saying goes: "Mockery is the best form of flattery."
Pretty sure that idiom is imitation is the best form of flattery. And I'm sure that phrase is what all people who have been catfished or have had their identities stolen say when it happens to them. *insert rolling eyes emoji*

I was spanked as a kid and don't feel super psychologically damaged by it and just always assumed I would spank as well. Because it's what I know and I turned out fine, right?
THEN I had a kid and did the research and now there is not way I would lay a hand on my child or let anyone else, even in the most gentle way.
I super hate any of the baby boy stuff with monkeys on it. Like I'm going to be kind of pissed if people get my son a ton of monkey shit.
I think my dislike started when my best friend had her son and her husband is Mexican. (I promise I'm not trying to be racist) but her son kind of looked like a little monkey and he was always in monkey clothes so it made it worse.
There is so much wrong with this statement. I'm sure no one here gives a shit, I don't go here, blah blah blah. But seriously. WTF? You aren't "trying" to be racist, but you just called a biracial child a monkey. That is awful and super offensive. You should have just left it at you don't like monkey shit. JFC.

Why even mention that the husband is Mexican? What the fuck does that have to do with anything? I'm sure your best friend would be stoked to hear you talking about her kid this way. SMH.

Gotta admit. I side-eyed the "monkey" comment and didn't have the guts to say anything but the more I think about it, the more it is pretty offensive. I'm half Mexican, DH is Mexican and my DD is 3/4 Mexican. She looks nothing like a monkey.

Mine is amazing. Like really. She texts me weekly about what her app says on ticker change day. She's the sweetest woman in the world with a fabulous sense of boundaries and never really oversteps. People should be jealous.

I'm not going to say anything more about this after this comment cause this is bullshit. I didn't say every mexican baby looks like a monkey, I said her baby kind of looked like a monkey. He has big ears and his complexion with his dark hair made him look hairy. Wasn't trying to offend anyone so i'm sorry if I did. And btw I did tell her he looked like a little monkey, CAUSE HE DID, and she laughs and agrees.

When people say they don't want to be Team Green because they want to be prepared, I don't get it. You're going to spend 5 months buying clothes? You're going to research gender roles to force on your child? You're going to scour Pinterest to find...what?
BONUS UO: I HATE spending money on clothes. I will seriously wear the shizz out of hand-me-downs because I hate shopping. I can already feel it happening with baby clothes. "Oh! Thats so cute! But the baby will probably poop on it. I'll just wait for someone to gift me clothes for my baby and let the LO wear that." I've already told my family I will take any hand-me-downs, regardless of gender. I have saved a couple of those 'minimum clothes for babies lists' to make sure I have enough.

Well, so you know in the future, mentioning a parent's race while referring to them as looking like a monkey, comes off completely offensive and racist. I'm not saying you ARE a racist, but hot damn you sure made yourself sound like it by the way you worded your UO.

Jesus. I guess i'm a racist then *heavy sarcasm*, good day ladies.
EDIT: @blackpearl Not that it is an good excuse but coming from a very sheltered small town, I didn't know that "monkey" is considered a racial slur. I consider a monkey just that, a hairy, big-earred little animal. I only referred to her husband as being Mexican to get the point across that he has a dark complexion, thats why I said "not trying to be racist". Once again, I apologize if I offended anyone, I honestly didn't mean for it to come across the way it seems.
