TL;DR: after 7 days of painful prodromal labor, 8 hrs of active labor & 20 min of pushing Jul.iana Ros.e was born!
Many of you know that I went to L&D on Sat 10/17 after contractions were 5 min apart. Was sent home. I continued to have contractions at least every hour for the week. Thursday I was exhausted & spent the entire day in bed (I think my body was prepping for labor). Thursday night contractions were 5 min apart & painful. I went to L&D but was still 2.5 cm. they sent me home.
I got some sleep but every time I woke up I was having a painful cx. They continued to increase in pain & frequency. I also had bloody show.
When I couldn't take the pain any more I called my OB & headed back to the hospital. We got there around 9am. When I was checked I was 4-5 cm. My OB was on call! I was thrilled!! they started my antibiotics b/c I'm gsb+ & said I could get the epi any time. I said, ok I want it now! It worked great! My only complaint was that my left leg was numb but not my right. So I could feel the cx a bit on the right but it was more than tolerable. My parents arrived after my epi & as worried as I was about my mom being there, she was helpful. We just chatted the whole time & she was minimally annoying. She also kept MIL informed the whole time.
Around 2:00 I started feeling pressure like I had to push & also felt pain in my back right thigh. I was 9-10 but baby was still high. So they sat me up to let gravity work, the pain was still there in my thigh no matter how I moved/sat. The nurse said that I should let her know when I couldn't hold back from pushing.
At one point the blood pressure machine started beeping (but b/c it couldn't get a good reading it was the 3rd time it had happened). I called the nurse to let her know. All she heard was "pressure" & got all excited so she brought a 2nd nurse with her. I told them that I was feeling a lot of pressure so they checked & said it was time to push. From there things moved fast. The two nurses chatted me up like we were sorority sisters, gushing over the names of my daughters. I even showed them DD1's pic. It took my mind off what was happening.
Next thing I know the OB is there, H had 1 leg & my mom has the other. I do a "practice" push but I did it wrong & I thought "I can't do this". I had pushed for 2-3 hours with DD & I did not want to go through that again!!
But then I got some coaching from my nurse & 20 minutes later Juli.ana was born. As she was coming out they told me to look down But I couldn't see anything. She weighed 7lb 4oz & was 19 inches long. They let me have skin to skin time for as long as I wanted. It was heaven to have her on my chest as I was stitched up. 2nd degree tear, I don't know how many stitches.
J is perfect & we're all in love!
Now for the pics.........
