Wow. I have no words. Obviously this is a cluster fuck. At the hospital I work in, nurses are required to give report to the on coming shift AT the patients bedside. Do they not do this there? At the very least maybe ask to talk to a nursing supervisor and voice your complaints.

We're planning to discuss this with her neurosurgeon in the morning. He's the only reason we have to go here instead of the other hospital.
They switched night nurses on us for some reason, so at midnight, she came in and looked at A and woke us up to introduce herself. She didn't take vitals or do anything with A, but she woke her up. So now I've got a fussy post-op baby who now needs pain meds and to be fed instead of just fucking sleeping like she was. The day shift didn't pull any milk from the freezer to thaw after her last feeding, so it's all frozen and we have to wait for it to thaw.
Re: nursing supervisors: the charge nurses here are very combative. One of them is the one who said we were getting a roommate and when we said we could not have a roommate due to her documented immune problem and the letter from her pediatrician, everyone got very huffy with us. DH heard one of the doctors ask the charge nurse "am I just supposed to create a new room?" There are at least five empty rooms on this floor and neither of our neighbors has a roommate.
Holy shit motownthrowdown That is INSANE. I feel like we, as (mostly) non medical professionals, understand As needs better than those people. I'm sorry you're dealing with it again.. Maybe the neuro surgeon can travel to the other hospital? Does it work like that?
I would be filing a detailed complaint, maybe the ethics board or board of directors, human relations, any and all supervisors and a news outlet?! Basically anyone with decision making power would get a letter.

Holy shit motownthrowdown cluster is right. I'm spoiled with my hospital. I can't believe the added stress you are having to deal with. Not fun. Hope A has a better day today.

We got to wait over an hour for pain meds this morning. I went to the nurses station and waited for about five minutes until one of them showed up. Asked for pain meds, they said it would be a couple minutes.
Fast forward an hour. A had been shrieking since I went to ask. A different nurse comes in, I ask if the pain meds are coming, she said no one mentioned that we needed them.
Doctors usually start rounds at 11. I'm really hoping we don't blow up on him because we like him, but this is complete horseshit.

Omg poor baby, I can't believe how horrible that place sounds. Seriously, how do you make a recovering baby wait an hour screaming for pain meds?? I'm so sorry Mo...more prayers coming your way.

WE'RE FREE! He said if she just needs a shunt revision, we can do it at the other place. Anything with her ETV needs to be done here because they have specialized equipment that the other place doesn't have.
And I'll be writing (another) letter about our stay here. I should just make 500 copies and hand it out as people walk in for work.
So glad you guys are out! And also you won't have to return for the most part . I cannot fathom the incompetence at this hospital. Glad A is doing well. You're all in my thoughts

So sorry that you are going through this! Totally missed the original post!! You caught this on your own?!! Holy crap that baby has a real life super mom. Hugs and prayers out to you all.
Just catching up....call the DOH. We get emails that they are on premises to investigate patient complaints. I wouldn't hesitate to call them on such a disorganized facility.

I've started drafting my complaint letter. I'll forward a copy to them too. Thanks!
@jhalula09, what kinds of things do they care about? I might need to tailor letters for different areas lol. There were so many screw ups.
The emails have never said what was investigated or what the complaint was about. I do know that they have investigated a complaint about a dirty carpet in a waiting room on the maternity floor. I would just send them all of the issues! Or if you want to do some key issues maybe pick out failure to follow doctors orders (wanting to give an isolated patient a roommate), under dosing pain medication (should be well documented when last dose was given, etc), failure to have nutrition readily available (not thawing out milk), etc. Sounds like that hospital has a lot to work out. Maybe they are just understaffed/overworked, but patient care should still be the priority!

Yes, we're home, A is smiling and happy again. I can't wait to give her a bath-she's got all kinds of paste from the EEG sensors in her hair and iodine all over her head.

So glad to hear. And so sorry to hear what a cluster the whole process was. I'm glad you are filing a complaint and hope they truly take it seriously. No one, especially A, should have to go through what you all did.

I feel bad for the kid next door with the bladder problem. The kid is 7, he's probably embarrassed and doesn't feel good. I think he waited a couple hours for diapers because the mom said he'd sone it several times "since this morning" and it was like noon at the time.
She's been fussing more than usual. Her fontanel is just starting to go back to normal, so I'm not sure if it was puffy from surgery or from slower draining with this new procedure. Or she's hungry because she's still making up from two days of eating barely anything. And we stopped her rice cereal until last night, so maybe she didn't feel full.
I get to take her bandage off tonight and try to get some of the orange iodine stuff off her head. She looks like the Joker lol. She gets her first bath in a week too, since we weren't supposed to get it wet. We were just wiping her down, but I think she misses bathtime.
Thanks for asking! I feel like I talk about her surgery stuff constantly. I don't want to bug people lol

I am pretty sure most, if not all, of us don't feel like you talk about her and her surgeries too much. She is your child and this is your life. You are NOT bugging anyone! If for some reason people are bugged by any of this they are welcome to leave.

+1 I like hearing how well she's doing. I like that you have your own post bc then I know where to look, I hate missing updates in the randoms when the randoms get busy.
