Saw your Facebook post and had to come see updates. So mad for you! Are these people totally incompetent? I want to do something to them on your behalf.
Omg. I'm ragey for you guys!!! Is this an ICU or just a Peds floor?? All of our rooms are private bc that's what the kids need. I'm so beyond frustrated for you guys. You don't need to go through this on top of dealing with recovery from another surgery. ARG!! Hope recovery goes smoothly and you can get out of there asap!!
This is a pediatric floor for neurology patients. It's an older hospital so no private rooms anywhere. We've just been put in a room with no roommate before.
And just because I'm sure not everyone is familiar with this, these kids could still be contagious. Shunts can get infected, surgery sites can get infected, and since this is the brain, meningitis is always a threat with infection. I don't know exactly how these things are all transferred, so I will admit that I dint know if that is specifically something to worry about. The honor system thing is total fucking bullshit and I'm pretty sure charge nurse hates me lol. No 1 curr.

I suggest you have them show you in the computer if your doctor has an order for a private room. I'm a charge nurse and the doc has to have an order in the computer that she needs to be in isolation. We get lots of requests for private rooms when we transfer patients out, but unless it's an ordered isolation if the only available room is paired, they get a paired room. I'm not saying I agree with what they are doing, but just to check to see if your doctor actually has it ordered or not. It needs to be from her attending. A letter from the pediatrician unfortunately won't do

Her attending is from this hospital and therefore incompetent. Neurosurgeon is considered assisting, therefore has no official power for that. The attending from the first time we were here is the one who tried to tell us she didn't have immune issues due to prematurity, so I don't have high expectations. But that makes sense about it not being in the computer.
They had open rooms at the time we started this whole thing though. That's what I don't get. You might not have orders, but you have a letter from a pediatrician and her history, and you have open rooms. Just freaking do it.

I'm glad you will be going home soon!! My husband is immunocompromised. He had a kidney transplant when he was a kid, and any time he's admitted for anything I try and get him a private room by any means necessary. It sucks going in for something and coming out with something new and unrelated.

I think that what laurasuzanne2006 is getting at is that unfortunately the mid-level providers have a hard time helping you if the physician fails to put in the orders (unfortunately not uncommon). You are doing an amazing job advocating for your daughter--I think our very brief 2 week nicu stay taught us what you clearly already know: you know your child best, so be polite, but firm. It's really hard when you feel like hospital staff is rolling their eyes at you.
I will be thinking of you and wishing for this challenging season of A's life to draw to a close so you can get back to enjoying your sweet baby.
