GTYK- What is a strange habit or quirk that you have?

If someone asked your SO what some of your strange habits and quirks are, what would they say?

I have to eat around the outside/edges of everything I eat first. It drives MH nuts.

He'd say I'm insane about expiration dates. Although I have gotten better.

Whenever I get presents (Christmas, birthdays, etc) I don't like to put them away for a few weeks. I leave them sitting on a bench in our room because I like to look at them and admire them for awhile before putting them away.

I was born with a diaphragmatic hernia (ie hole in my diaphragm causing everything to be in my upper chest cavity...). I has surgery to repair but I get the hiccups all.the.time. They come and go as they want (without me trying any of the home remedies which don't work, I will get them multiple times a day. I know when I am done hiccupping for that episode. It's annoying when I get them really loud when you are at church and during a prayer etc.

I also like things symmetrical as much as possible which H will purposefully move things to mess with me and it drives me up the wall.

Whenever I see a digital clock saying 11:11, I tap my leg or clap my hands 11 times. I started doing it when I was in middle school and have never been able to break the habit.

I also look underneath my bed every night before getting in to check for monsters? kidnappers? burglars? I don't know. This is also something I've been doing for 15-20 years. I'm not sure what I think I would do if I ever found someone hiding there, but I check every single night.

ETA MH doesn't think much of these weird habits and just accepts them as weird things that I do.

I usually eat things on my plate 1 food at a time - for example, I'll eat all the chicken, then all the rice, then all the veggies. I don't mix bites between foods too often. And I'm a really slow eater.

I have to have the volume of the TV or radio in the car on an even number. I don't know why. It drives DH nuts. He will change the volume and I will ask him if it is on an even number or grab the remote from him to make sure it is. He always sighs at me lol.

LadyNymeria, I eat my foods separately, too.

Speaking of food, I do not like to let my food touch. There are clear no-mans-land zones on my plate, and if two different food items happen to touch and mix in the middle, I will not eat the border areas. I often use multiple bowls/plates to avoid such a problem.

I check the backseat of my car before getting in it. I think this stems from the urban legend about the killer in the backseat who gets thwarted by the driver behind the car putting their high beams on every time the killer sits up ...

I'm like that with the thermostat in the car. It has to be on an even number. Interestingly enough, the a/c in my house is always set at 77 and that doesn't bother me one bit.

The doors to the master bathroom and closet must be closed for me to sleep. I just don't like the "dark hole" I see when they're open. If I wake up and either one is open, I wake up MH and ask him to go close the door. He now rarely forgets to close them because he doesn't want to be woken up.

I do this too. I'm pretty sure I learned it from my mom because she does it as well. Odd numbers make me uncomfortable. I also need symmetry in my life.

I do that in 5's. I like the volume on -45 dbs if it's late at night, -40 if it's not as late, -35 and -30 for normal watching, and -25 for movies.

Don't ask me why such high negative numbers are where we keep the volume - MH has a pretty fancy stereo set-up and it uses decibels instead of standard 1-whatever volume levels.

Yeah, it is so odd because if there is an odd number I can't control (like the date or time or whatever) I am fine but if it is something I can control it HAS to be even or I actually get anxious. Brains are weird.

I think my weirdest habit is one that MH doesn't even notice. I always step on to stairs with my right foot first. If I step on to a set of stairs with my left foot first, I just feel "off" the whole time I'm ascending or descending the staircase. It's rather odd.

If anyone says something good or bad will happen ("I think the plane is going to be on time, don't worry about making the layover!") I have to say "Knock on Wood" and I have to knock on something. I make DH do it all the time and he just laughs and goes along now.

ironbaby, LadyNymeria, I am totally with you I eat my food one section at a time and I hate for things to touch.

1. I take my cheese burger apart and eat each part separately, 1st bun, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, meat, second bun.

2. I set the clock in my car ahead by 26 minutes, there is no real reason why I do it but I have always done that.

I purposely set all my clocks 3 minutes fast (I hate being late; 3 is my favorite number). None of my family understands why I continue to do it but I do.

I am constantly playing or running my fingers through my hair. Like...all the time. When I am stressed I am brushing/pulling the hair with my fingers. My mom said I did this since a baby and she would always have to free my fingers from being tangled in my hair. I am such a weirdo.

I am a horrible nail biter. It is the hardest habit to break!

I am gross. I am obsessed with popping zits. Whenever MH has one I will be mad if he pops it before I get the chance. He knows better now!

My niece and I watch an Instagram account that just does videos of zit pops and it's so disgusting but so satisfying.

If my nails aren't professionally done I will pick at my cuticles until they are raw. The cost of a regular manicure is well worth not ruining my cuticles.

And though I hate to fold and put away clothes I have to have my clothing folded and placed in the drawers a certain way. I will re-fold any clothes that DH has folded and put away for me if it's not "correct". DH just laughs about it but I know it's weird.

I find it hard to throw out the tags from clothing. I'm great at picking up my stuff in general, but I will leave tags lying around until my H forces me to throw them out. When I was a kid, I wore new clothing with the tags on it for a few days before I took them off.

I'm sure this came from my family buying used 90% of the time, but it's weird that the habit stuck.

I hate the number 6, for no good reason. But I will never take 6 items (like chips or crackers or something) or do something 6 times.

Six was my favorite number when I was a kid! It's such a good number. Not sure why kids need to have a favorite everything, but that was mine.
