Today I am 16w according to my doctors office. I knew this date and had it marked on my calendar since we had our first appointment. Today I go to my ob and start a series of internal ultrasounds. My ob wants to check how my cervix shortens as my pregnancy progresses. I will have one of these every other week from 16w to 26w unless something changes and they don't need to continue or they have to put in a cerclage. But as of now that is the plan.
I also start my progesterone shots. I have heard they can be painful and leave bruises. I have one of these every week until I am 36w. The last one will occur on my 5 year anniversary! These almost make me more anxious because I hate needles and shots but I won't deal with that until this evening because I heard bedtime is the best time to give them.
This is all happening because my second was born spontaneously at 30w. (She is perfectly healthy and happy now.) They ran tests the day before I had her because I was not feeling right but found nothing wrong. The day I had her they ran more tests and never found a reason I had her so early. They only thing that could not be ruled out was a shortened/incomplete cervix. So thus, all the ultrasounds this time around.
I am so anxious about what will be found and/or not found. I am a rush of emotions as I wait to go into the doctor in 2 hours. I have said so many prayers and thinking good thoughts. I appreciate any prayers and good thoughts.
Good luck! I know this is scary, but try to focus on all the positive things from this. The extra monitoring and progesterone will hopefully prevent this LO from arriving too early. You will also get to see the baby every week! My OB was able to keep my first DD baking for another 7 weeks after I first went into labor. I'm glad your doctor is being proactive and hope your appointment goes very well today.

Good luck! I am in the exact same position as you, but my checks start on Monday. I did end up getting a cerclage last time, and while scary, it helped keep my daughter in until 39 weeks when the doctor broke my water. I also had 17p shots last time. They were fine at first, but I started getting big itchy welts around 30 weeks. It helps to ice it after, so I would suggest having an ice pack nearby.
This time i switched from oral progesterone to vaginal at 12 weeks. We are hoping that helps. It is definitely nerve wracking to start these appointments but they sh help you catch any issues!
Good luck! Will be thinking of you today! I start progesterone shots next week because my son was born early. I went into spontaneous preterm labor at 33 wks the first time and they got it stopped, but then ended up having him at 35 wks. I'm also nervous about the progesterone shots.
