CNM is what I got assigned. I'm hoping to go through this with a midwife, so I hope I like her when I finally do meet her for my ultrasound in January.

I had two emergency c-sections for fetal distress since my body thinks 7 minute contractions are cool and babies don't. I'll be seeing my surgeon, er, OB again this pregnancy. This time I plan to skip letting my body try to deprive the baby of oxygen.
I'm using a CNM. The practice I used last time and loved is closed one left the state, one moved to a practice closer to her home, and the last one merged with an OB group. So I'm going to try a new group- the good is that the new group offers nitrox oxide, which sounds awesome. I'm just a little worried they won't be as chill, but awesome, as my last practice. We shall see!

I'm in a weird situation. I'm an established patient with a gyn who will see maternity patients until 18 weeks then she sends you to an OB/gyn group that if you called as a new patient there is a long wait to see anyone. So I go to the RE now, the gyn until 18 weeks and then an OB/gyn group.
Eta: the OB/gyn group had more OBs than CNM, but you see them all and whoever is at the hospital when you're there will deliver your baby. I really don't have an issue with either one. I'm worried about being AMA that they might make me just stick with OBs
I love my OB! Switched to her at 24 weeks last pregnancy when I moved and she is fantastic. She has a good sense of humor and keeps things light hearted, although I trust she would respond well in times of stress (thankfully everything went smoothly).

This was delivery #1. Baby #2 just decided to stop moving one day so they took him out quickly. Baby #3 will be a lovely scheduled visit to the hospital!
I will be using the same OB that I used for DD. I had an emergency c/s with her and plan to just have a repeat c/s this time. I love him so much--amazing bedside manner, he will sit and shoot the breeze with you for 15 minutes and has never made me feel rushed at all. He also was in agreement with me about not inducing unless absolutely necessary (i.e. Going over at least two weeks), although as it turned out it didn't matter.
I see my midwife for general lady care so plan to see them when my RE releases me. The only issue i foresee is their schedule doesn't match with my and SOs right now. I hope we can work something out though!
I believe I'll be using an OB, CNM are not for the high risk, right? It's already been suggested I go to a high risk dr due to my loss history but I'm not so sure
CMW, but I do worry about AMA. The practice group has OB/GYNs that I can transfer to, so we'll see.
Is anyone considering using a doula? or has anyone used one on a prior birth?
I'm considering hiring one, but I'm going to have to sell my husband on it first. I think part of the convincing will be whether I get tagged as high risk versus not high risk. I want a home birth, but they won't do it if I'm not low risk. That's when I'd really push for the doula.

I had a family practitioner my first pregnancy and he did all my prenatal appointments, delivered DD and then saw us both for whatever for the next two years. It was a cool situation that we got to be with him for all of that and he knew our family history but he definitely wasn't specialized in OB or pediatrics. This last time with DS I switched from an OB to the CNM team within the same clinic. There are 3 midwives that you can see for any of your appointments and then whichever one is on call is who delivers. I loved being in their care last time, I felt like they took extra time to get to know me and make me comfortable and they have a more relaxed approach to things. when I went in for the yi this week the midwife I saw gave me a big hug when she came in because she saw my ultrasound appointment on the calendar for next week and we sat and chit chatted about how exciting another baby so soon blah blah. I like them

My friends from school have all done a doula training so I will probably ask one of them to come if H is ok with it. FWIW, research has shown that having a doula at the birth is associated with fewer interventions, better outcomes, and higher satisfaction with the birth experience so I definitely recommend it if it's a possibility for you! They can be very expensive depending on where you live though.

CNM are trained for managing normal/healthy pregnancy and delivery while OBs are trained more for managing complications and higher risk patients. The biggest difference is that OBs are trained as surgeons and CNMs are not. If you've been told you are high risk an OB or possibly even MFM is probably a better option for you than a CNM... although you may be able to find a practice where you can be followed by both.
bocaburger my cousin, who is like a sister to me, is a doula. So I'm definitely sold on using one. I just need to talk MH into having a doula and using my cousin. She's offered her services pro bono, so we'd be silly not use her. But he's still iffy on the whole thing. Thankfully I have 8 months to talk him into it

I used a doula for ds1 and she was incredible. I labored for a long time naturally and really it was because of her.
Also, for those that said they have to convince their husbands, she was almost more helpful to MH. Gave him ideas of how to help and where to massage. And when I only wanted him to hold my hands and hug me, she could massage to relieve the pressure. They were a GREAT team.
She was also helpful before labor started with questions and such. I am REALLY glad we did it.

Yeah I think it's going to take some effort to talk H into it too...
My practice has midwives and obs, but I have chosen the midwife route. I had a fantastic birth experience with dd1. A doctor came in a few times to check-in due to some complications.

My OB that I used to get my annuals by does not do deliveries. So a friend with 2 kids recommended hers and I was really blown away at my first visit with her last week. So sticking with her.
My good friend has trained to be a doula but with her busy work and parenting schedule she hasn't officially become one. It's still nice that I can text her questions all the time and she keeps me really educated on when to question things.
