DH and I discussed it last night, I'm going to try and make either carrot cake or carrot cupcakes (excluding the walnuts on some of them so the girls can eat them) with cream cheese frosting. We'll see how that goes. I usually make chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting, so this will be different. Then ice cream with cones. Keeping it simple. I am really hoping the weather cooperates, I want to have it in the backyard. That's the one thing that sucks about planning an outdoor party in advance. So their party is in a little less than 3 weeks.

Yum! Carrot cake is my absolute favorite!
I love homemade carrot cake so much. I won't eat store bought, but from scratch... the cake and frosting? Mmmm. I just hate making it lol.

Less than three weeks??!?! Our babies are growing too fast! Carrot cake is sooooo good.
Less than 3 weeks? How about NEXT WEEK. Holy crap. I need to order decorations ASAP.

Party is on the 27th, their birthday is the 30th! Time has flown by in a blur.
Oh my goodness! I must have one of the youngest J14 babies- DD won't be 1 until July 26! I can't believe some of y'all's LOs will be 1 in just a week or so!!
Don't worry, there are a few if us at the end of July and into August. I do remember it feeling like a lot if babies were born before July even came.

I think Aug 8th is the last birthday we have in our group!

I wish we could have an outdoor party but it is just too hot in FL so until we live in a house with a pool or DD refuses to party inside. Backyard b-day parties are not happening.
Me and my body despise the heat. I breakout in a heat rash anything above 80 degrees. I wish we could just spend May-October in NY.

We don't have a/c in our house, so I think it would be even hotter inside with all the guests. The kids and I all get heat rash really bad too, plus my asthma acts up, we have a window unit for bad days but would do no good for the party since it only cools one room.
I was going to but at Publix they give you a free one when you order a regular cake.
That's what we did for DS's first birthday. For DD they didn't have the type of cake I wanted, so I went to a nice bakery. Cake was still comparably priced and they also sell mini cakes (3-4in) for about $5 so I ordered one of those for the smash cake.
Now I just need to put together the rainbow fruit and veggie trays, make fruity pebble marshmallow treats, and make rainbow ice cubes for water or sprite to go with all the other prepared stuff. And of course I still need to finish the wreath and other decor. 9 days and counting!
It looks like we will have at least 25 people at my house for LO birthday. 90% are family and most will be coming from out of town. I'm worried on how to entertain them all. What is everyone doing? It's going to be ungodly hot that time of year and 99% are adults and won't want to swim.
Also at this point I'm thinking about having 2 birthday parties. If I decide to visit my Mom the week after DD 1st birthday I was thinking we could do one there with all my family and they all wouldn't have to travel. Is this a stupid idea?

Okay, you ladies with boys show me your boy birthday outfits! I crave inspiration of what to look for!
Add me to the list of not knowing how to entertain people at the party. Probably will just feed them. I'm making 2 short videos to show about LO's first year. But 5-6 minutes of video entertainment won't be enough!
(I am pretty stoked about making the videos, though. That's my sort of crafting.)

I have no outfit but plan to provide food, cake, and beer and wine. I hope that's entertainment enough.
There will be cupcakes and ice cream, plus kids running crazy here. I've never provided entertainment for DS's parties, just food and then people talked or chased kids. That soaked up the two hours pretty fast lol.

Yeah we're having two parties: one for each side of the family. One party for Dh's family at our house. We provide the beer and they'll entertain themselves.
The other party is for my side and it'll be at my aunts house since my cousin is only home from Japan for two weeks right over DD's birthday weekend.
I decided not to mix the two families because Dh's side is very...blue collar and goes with the flow. My side of the family is more uptight. Think country clubs and fine wine. I wish mine would be more chill but it has never worked out that way.

I think I'm ordering a white onesie that has a cursive one on it and then ordering her some pink bloomers to go over it. I want her to be comfortable but festive.
I don't know if I should mess with a headband or not? She's so iffy on wanting to keep things on her head lately.

How do you make rainbow ice cubes?
I'm either going to do layers of colored water frozen one section at a time, or just solid cubes of color that can be mixed in a glass. Haven't decided how much effort I want to put into it yet.

This is what DS wore for his first birthday. Decorated the shirt myself.
As to entertainment, we'll have music on and a sprinkler in the backyard for kids if the weather is good. We've also got a play set back there for them to play on. Adults is all about just visiting. The hubs may try to pull out his corn hole set.
@jane2614, I'm not a good "party planner" (totally said with the air quotes in a very Dr. Evil manner) so I have no idea if we should actually entertain the guests! I like everyone else's ideas of just providing food and hoping that chasing kids is entertainment.
(Sorry if this double posts. Work internet is crapping out yet again.)
Guys, I think I finally un-freaked out and decided on a theme! It'll be nautical/sailor/ocean whatever, because I found this cute sailor outfit on Amazon that would be adorable for his cake smash pics and for the party!
Okay, next conundrum. What do you guys think about this...if we book a party room at a steak house or mexican restaurant, is it then weird to have a nautical themed birthday?

Now I think DH is on board with the joint party. So finicky, that one... I've got to set a date like tomorrow so everyone will stop asking/know when the heck it is.
