+1 to drawers or slid out tray for pots and pans, the e-granite sink, and pot filler. Pot filler is definitely more on the frivolous side, but would be cool. Oh, and a double oven. Is that possible with your set up? I'd kill for it. Haha.
Oh man, a double oven would be amazing! Growing up my mom redid the kitchen and put in double ovens. It was awesome. If we had the space I would totally do that!
Thanks ladies!!! I wish we had room for an island, but we really don't so I'm sticking with peninsula.
I never really thought about soft-touch cabinets or not, but from talking to my cabinet maker soft-touch seems to be the standard now.
And NOTE on the drawers for pots/pans. I want that.
Any thoughts on the faucet that you don't have to touch? Someone here had it and didn't like it. I can't remember who!!
Anecdote:
My in-laws have one. They were so excited. Now they hate it with a fiery passion and are going to switch it out ASAP.
I'm not sure if this is standard or not, but apparently there's has a 'battery' in it? Whenever it dies (which it doesn't warn you the battery is low) you can't get water. In their case there is no 'manual' option. Which means they need to replace the battery. So like, need water ASAP? Better hope that battery doesn't die.
I really don't know if all of them are like this or if it's just the one they have....
Ah yes, this was the story I recall! I don't want to have to depend on a battery to get waters.
Although, FFWC - I have a touchless garbage can that I LOVE! I just wave my hand over it and it opens. Very nice when I have gross chicken hands.

When my parents redid their kitchen, my mom just HAD to have the garbage can that sits in a cabinet and slides out. My dad said "Absolutely not! When I'm eating chicken wings or ribs or preparing raw meats, I'm not going to touch a nice cabinet handle to throw out the bones!" So they had a war and neither would give in so they had 2 trash cans and each use their own hahahhah. I mean I gotta take his side, I don't wash my hands until I'm completely done with something.

Random: don't get a sink that is fused to your countertop. The previous owners put in a corian countertop with a fused sink. So... when we cracked the sink, it meant replacing ALL THE COUNTERS, TOO.
Shoot me.
We caulked the crack and stare disdainfully at it.

My kitchen layout looks so close to that pic you posted! I dont think mine is as big though. But the layout is so functional, it feels plenty big enough. I just have laminate counter tops now, but dream of quartz one day I LOVE the window above the sink, it lets in so much light. Our dishwasher is under the peninsula, which is such a great location. It is so convenient to load and unload. We did pull out bottoms for the bottom cabinets, that has been so awesome, I can actually use all of my pots and pans now, even the ones in the back!
Across from the wall with the sink we have our fridge and more cabinet space, I love that area so much. It is like a coffee nook and a spot for the animal food.

kayladawn91 That is one thing I REALLY wish we did! I have 2 corner cabinets that could use it. I just put big salad bowls that I rarely use back there, but it would be so much more functional to have one.

If I was redoing a kitchen I would totally get a drinking water filtration system either built into my sink or I would get one of those fridges that has it. Filling up my Brita every day makes me irrationally annoyed.
The range hood vents outside, not recycles in your face Pull out spice racks Pull out pantry shelves Built in wine rack Double ovens (or at least one of those ranges with two ovens built in) Gas range I'd always go for way more storage than you think you'll need I love the soft close drawers, MH can't help but slam shit Under-cabinet lighting Built in sound system so I can rock out whilst cooking
That's what's coming to mind for me.
Great list! Why would someone have a range hood vent that doesn't vent outside. Does not compute.
We remodeled our kitchen as soon as we moved in (two years ago in May). We actually stripped out all of the special features to the cabinets except the soft close and pull out drawers in an effort to save money. We don't miss them at all. Lazy suzan cabinets were an extra $800 each and we had two and they aren't the most efficient use of space.
We paid extra to have 13 inch deep upper cabinets (standard is 12) to make sure our dinner plates would fit. We also took the cabinets all the way to the ceiling which I love. It gives us extra storage space and avoids having a dusty/greasy empty space above the counters.
I strongly suggest under cabinet lighting, it was worth the extra expense to be able to have the extra task lighting and being able to turn off all the lights but leave one under cabinet light on so we don't come home to a dark house.
We also upgraded our sink to avoid stainless steel. Even "nice" stainless steel starts looking scratched and beat up fairly quickly and I didn't want this beautiful kitchen and 6 months later hate the sink. I think the sink we bought was a Blanco? We got a light color and have had ZERO problems with staining, even if we leave tomato sauce in there over night.
My one and only regret with the kitchen was that we cut out the heated floors to save money. I wish we had said "screw the budget" and done it anyway.

And a wine rack/fridge. I would love that.
The biggest flaw in our kitchen - there is no vent over the range. None. It's just on the island. Very annoying, and something that we will eventually fix. No idea why they didn't address that when they remodeled!
My kitchen layout is almost exactly as pictured. To the right of the stove (if you're standing and looking at it) is another 3ft or so of counter space with cupboards over it and 3 deep drawers. The fridge is next to that. For the most part, I like our kitchen. I could use more space in terms of floor space, but I do feel I have enough storage. Love my extra deep drawers and the bottom cupboards that have pull-outs to reach the stuff in the back. Love. I have a ginormous pantry, which is awesome, but it's literally a closet with 3 shelves. I can't tell you how many times I've bought sugar or something and then found one waaaaay at the back of the shelf. Pull-outs or something would be way more functional.
Want a range hood that vents to the outside, a pull-out spice rack, and a double oven.
aprilz81 - that kitchen is so pretty! And good to know about the sink. and your photos have convinced me that I need the under the cabinet lights.
For us it was a double bonus since the kitchen can be dark with the cabinets all the way up to the ceiling. The window doesn't let in as much light as I would like so we needed something to provide more light. The glass tile backsplash also helps bounce light around.
We don't have trash in a cabinet because we didn't want to waste the storage space, I would much rather store "stuff" in there than trash. Our trash can is in the laundry room/mud room right off the end of the peninsula, not the most convenient but not that bad.
Our faucet is a touch faucet that you can touch with the back of your hand to have it turn off/on and while it does run by batteries you can use the handle to make it work if the batteries die. Our batteries just had to be replaced last week, they lasted about 14 months.

In our last house and current house the hoods above the stove didn't/don't vent outside. I loathe it. It made sense in our last house because it was a condo unit on the basement level and it was probably a pain in the ass to vent outside. But I have no idea why they didn't do it in our current house. I am definitely interested in the cost of doing it whenever we remodel!

aprilz81 that's gorgeous! I have a similar layout except my dishwasher is in that corner which makes it impossible to put things away when the dishwasher is open. That's nice that you have the extra space between washer and peninsula.

I love having a faucet I don't have to touch requiressnacks ,. it has it's moments but I love that it cuts off automatically after a certain amount of time.
Oooo...that's a nice feature that I did not think of!
We just remodeled our kitchen. Yes to the giant pot and pan drawers, they are awesome. We also have a tall skinny cabinet for cookie trays, cutting boards, etc. It's pretty awesome too since all those things now stand up instead of laying flay and occupying too much shelf space.

@requiresnacks, I don't think it's been mentioned, however I would get the pot filler faucet, which is over the range and fills pots with water right there.
nuggetrn may also have made some recent kitchen decisions

aprilz81, staining and scratching is the main reason I didn't want a stainless steel sink again. Your sink looks like a granite composite like mine except mine is black. It's one of my favorite things in my kitchen.
ugaqueencity, We just got a new microwave that is also a convection oven but it's over the range. I can't wait to try it out for a big meal because I really miss my double oven in my old house!

Yes, it is a granite composite. It comes in several colors and it was easy to find a color that went with our granite. I love the shape of our sink too, the curve at the back helps soften up the appearance (which is needed because our cabinets are square, backsplash is square, floor tile is square, etc.) of the kitchen and the color keeps it light.
We do get scratches sometimes from the pans, but a little soft scrub and scratchy sponge and it comes right up.
