I'm really bummed. I put in lots of effort researching our choices for midwives and decided on a practice that I was pretty excited about. I sent an inquiry through their website and they responded tonight to let me know that they already have as many patients due in August as they can accept. They put me on the waitlist but I am so bummed. :-(
It's really important to me to use a midwife and I'd really like to deliver at the nearby hospital birthing center. There aren't many options who deliver there and this was definitely the best choice for us.

Oh that is so frustrating! Hopefully they can fit you in between now and then! I would be disappointed too.
Ice cream perhaps?
I'm dealing with a change of insurance right now and I will be heartbroken if for some reason I have to switch from my midwife group. I was with them* with DS last year and I have now delivered both my kids at the same hospital. I was really counting on this being easy but now there *are phone calls involved.
Me (30) MH (32) Dx: MFI (low all the things) M. 10/11. TTC Since 01/14 IUI#1-3(Letrozole + Trigger) = BFN Second Opinion. Changed RE's. IVF 09/15 Long Lupron 12R/9M/8F, Transferred 1=BFN. 4 frosties. FET #1 12/15 Transferred 1 (3 still on ice)
Boo! I'm sorry they don't have any slots. Did you have someone as a second choice?
There are other options but issues with each one. It's not the end od the world, I'm sure one of the other practices will be fine... but it seems like one of the most important decisions of my pregnancy and has really thrown me off tonight.

It does feel like a big thing. Maybe make a list of the other options and what issues you had with each one. (Maybe we can help you narrow things down!)

That stinks. I hope you can find someone you love! I loved my last MW and am not sure about the group I moved to, but I'm hopeful it will just take sometime to get a good relationship going.
Ok, so here is the long explanation of why things are so complicated, feel free not to read the whole novel but remylove1011 suggested that writing it all out would help.
Here are the main complicating factors: A. I am in school to become a midwife. My program is very rigorous and, ironically, I will likely be forced to drop out of my program once they find out I am pregnant. B. My insurance is through my school, so once I leave the program I will lose my insurance an have to find something new (H's plan is similar to mine but it would be expensive to keep me on his plan, so we'd probably go through the health exchange). C. I specifically want to deliver at the hospital birthing center near us. It has a great birthing center but there is a regular L&D floor and a NICU at the same location so I feel really safe even if there were complications. There are limited options of midwives with privileges at the birthing center.
So that leaves us with the following options (not including my original choice)
1. Faculty midwives at the birthing center Pros: Good location, likely to take most insurance Cons: You are delivered by whoever is working that day and I have heard bad things about one of the midwives.
2. Small private practice Pros: My friend used and loved them Cons: Office is much further away and they don't accept any insurance. You can get out-of-network reimbursement but my current insurance has terrible OON coverage.
3. Larger private practice Pros: Accept insurance (including, I believe, my current plan), good location Cons: My program director works there. I don't have a great relationship with her and I'm afraid she will find out I'm pregnant before I'm ready to deal with it.
Sorry again for the book, thanks for your insights!
As crappy as it sounds to say, anyone with a due date in August is still in first trimester for some time and there is a chance at least one spot might open up at your preferred midwife. Maybe try calling every few days?
This post inspired me to go contact daycares about getting on waitlists near my work. Apparently it might already be too late, ugh. I need to do a tour to get on a waitlist and I'm terrified about jinxing myself.

Well it sounds like you have many valid reasons to be unsure of the available places. I wonder if it'd be possible to request not to have a specific person at the birthing center?

It's complicated. It's a very strenuous program so I'd have to take a leave of absence when the baby is born. Because of the structure of the program, I'd have to take a full year off, not just a semester. Unfortunately the program is changing the next year (and not in ways that work for me) so it likely wont work for me to come back after baby.

That stinks. I hope it works out for you to go back (if that's what you want)! Do you know anyone within your program who can advise you on the decision? I realize that can be touchy with not wanting to announce quite yet. Maybe being on the "inside" will get you boosted up the waitlist!
Will any new/better options open up after you go onto the health exchange? I see your dilemma; those options are not the greatest.
I don't think so. The only thing that might change is better OON coverage that could make Option #2 more affordable.
I don't all the exchanges, but I am very familiar with plan designs and several exchanges. The ones by me have pretty much eliminated OON coverage for exchange plans. It is too hard to get them priced correctly or at a competitive price point with OON benefits.
